The Gipper
I have heard this argument used before....including by some people here. And there is clearly some logic to this guys suggestion. Unfortuneatly there are a couple of factors that are going against the Browns: 1. In reality the Browns are in their first year of a new system, not their second or third. The hiring of Shurmur, the switch to the North Coast Offense, the switch to the 4-3 all are just happening this year, not last year or the year before. 2. The Lockout. This denied the Browns any chance of getting in any decent amount of practice in these new systems. There was no lockout between 2002-1010 in the period this writer analyzed. 3. He talks about a "franchise QB" taking over....but most of those franchise QBs he mentions had at least a full year or two under their belts. Colt McCoy has what? 4 games. Honesty, this should be looked at as a continuation of his rookie season. However, I agree that this schedule should be favorable, and hopefully it will allow the Browns to make a playoff run.
