(KTLA) -- Davy Jones, the lead singer of the Monkees, died of a heart attack Wednesday morning in Florida. He was 66 years old. An official from the medical examiner's office for Martin County, Florida confirmed to TMZ that they received a call from Martin Memorial Hospital informing them that Jones had passed away. He had reportedly complained of chest pains Tuesday night at his home in Indiantown, Florida. Jones is survived by his wife Jessica and four daughters, all from previous marriages. Jones, who was born in Manchester, England, was the lead singer of the Monkees from 1965 to 1971. The group, which also included Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork, was formed for a television show with the same name. They had a slew of hits in the late 1960s, including "Daydream Believer," "Last Train to Clarksville" and "I'm a Believer." At the peak of their popularity in 1967, the Monkees sold more records than the Beatles. The group disbanded after the show went off the air. Jones continued to performed solo, and has toured throughout the years with other members as various reincarnations of the Monkees. In 2009, Jones released an album entitled "She" that consisted of classics and standards from the 1940s to the 1970s. Please note The Monkeys still have not been selected for the R&R HOF. Politics is the only reason I can imagine for this oversight - or is it an oversight?
