THE BROWNS BOARD

Revised Election Process

Recommended Posts

I'm kinda bored and thought I'd post this idea I've had for awhile and have it ripped apart by posters on here

I know it is not original but I'm kinda interested on seeing where everyone falls and comparing that with how they normally post.

Anyway I think there should be some kind of IQ test attached to the voting process, where the better you do on the exam them more your vote is worth (the exact method of equating test score to vote worth would need to be tweaked around I'm sure).

About the test, I think it should be about topics relative to politics and running America. So even though I'd like it to have math and science on it, that wouldn't serve too much of a purpose (though some wouldn't hurt). I think the test should have questions about how our govt. actually works, some questions about our history, current events (both national and international), economics, etc.

If you are going to vote for someone because of their economic plan, you should understand how the economy works. If you are going to vote for someone based on their opinion of foreign affairs you should know what is actually going on in other countries.

To be fair we'd have to provide "study" material for those not in a situation to get online at their leisure. And sure, this is an ideological idea that would have a lot of problems to worry about and account for before this could be practical.

I mean, we want to pick the best leaders to run this country (congress, president, etc.), so we should have people that understand what the person they are voting for will do. If you were looking for a new head of your financial department you wouldn't treat the view of your scientists in the same light as the view of other people that work in your finance department.

I'm sure this would just get distorted and broken by the current 2 party system in combination with are suspect electoral college anyway, but its an idea. Oh, and I am not trying to be arrogant, I don't think I would do that great on the exam. As an engineering student I really don't get much exposure to what's currently happening in the news (outside of what I see on here and then look up on my own or what I see in some form of media on the internet or Daily Show/Colbert Report)

Be careful what you wish for woody.

I'm all for some sort of basic literacy threshold 4 voters but I can't imagine the hell that people like our friend Heck would raise.

I get the feeling that you'd like to see what you consider to be stupid superstitious christian voters eliminated from the ranks, maybe?

Then again remember that the stupidest among us are usually also the least successful. So how do you get a round eliminating so many poor people from the voting list?

Also, and this might well have been the idea, Our system of a democratic republic basically takes any real power out of the hands of the great unwashed. The citizens are going to wind up with a little more power than student council.

As far as engineers, scientists, economists and so forth don't forget that money talks and bullshit...

For that matter you might want to make employment a requirement to vote.

Or only homeowners vote on property taxes?

Too bad there isn't a way to require certain qualifications prior to fathering or mothering a baby. THAT would have a direct impact on the IQ threshold, no?

This is a horrible, horrible idea.

Everyone of voting age in America should be able to have their say in who their elected representatives are. That's what a democracy is.

Let me give you an example: Cal is an idiot who hasn't the first clue about economics or politics or health care or just about anything else. I'm sure we all agree on that. But, Cal certainly knows more about farming than I do, or you do, or Vapor or Steve does. And that's obviously going to be one of his main interests - farming, and farm policy. He probably knows more about some other things than you do, too. I don't know what those things would be, but go with me here.

Who are you to tell Cal he can't have his interests, and his family's interests, represented in government? It's a government of the people, by the people. It's not a government of the people you see fit to include.

Or think of it this way, too: I'm sure Cal polishes his gun while thinking about Sheldon Brown and all the ways he's ruining America. I'm sure he calls him Idi Abrown, or something, and would never vote for Sheldon Brown. But it's also part of Sheldon Brown's job, the instant he assumes office, to represent Cal's interests in government.

As much as it would stroke my ego to have my vote count more than 99% of the country...

And therein lies the rub.

Is it a polititians job to faithfully represent the wishes of his constituents?

Or to bring his own knowledge and experience to bear and decide what should be?

WSS

It's both. How much of each depends on the representative.

But clearly, Cal is one of Sheldon Brown's constituents. If Cal wants to call Brown's office and say, "You need to do something about that stupid rule that makes it easier for big agribusiness to claim their tomatoes are organic in the same way mine are, when they're not" then Sheldon Brown should have someone listening to that complaint, and have a position on it. It may match Cal's, it may not. But this is why Cal gets to vote.

See?

Also, yes, Cal's opinions are disgusting and informed by nonsense, but he's got a right to have them, and have those opinions represented if enough people share them. Thankfully, not enough people think Obama has a civilian defense force made up of ACORN volunteers and only likes his black people. But he's an American citizen who pays his taxes. He gets a voice just like you or I do.

if i wanted to do that i'd make it all about science. A superstitious Christian is in a position to know just as much about economics and world news as anyone else. They just can't think that Satan is causing problems in some foreign country of that Haiti had the disaster they did because they signed a deal with the devil...

I don't think stupid people having babies has as much of a direct effect on the country as stupid people voting in our leaders. Also, you can't get involved in their personal life.

funny stuff woody, that would be as bad as when acorn stuffed the ballot boxes. the problem isn't about iq scores but how people are misslead and vote like its american idol. pre empt obama singing???? they have done studies and know how to sway people whether its racial divide and dis-content or singing lullabies. it only diverts attention away from the failures of Obama.

and I assume you believe that is only something the left does right? The right would never sway over elderly and/or stupid voters with ads depicting an apocalyptic future because Obama was president, right? Or make people think he is an evil socialist terrorist, or try to make people think he wasn't born here... etc etc

Actually, we could go with that idea. But Republicans and the Tea Party get to decide

what the "intelligence" grade will have to be. They are the ones who know how to THINK instead

of hate everything.

That leaves out Heck possibly supporting the grotesque murder of unborn childrn, or sexual assualt of older children,

or the sending of very old senior citizens to concentration camps. After all, someone of Heck's stupidity and

rage may be capable of being the next Hitler or something. Or, is that Obamao in a nutshell?

Remember when the Germans pretended that everything was fine, while Jews were being exterminated ?

Heck could possibly be one of those, albeit modern day, I think.

After all, all you have to do is to say unborn chidren aren't people, so they can freely be killed.

And those of us who disagree with him, the same. And those old folks... the same.

And those Christians, the same. I really hope Obamaocare gets killed, before the rest of us are.

Buy guns, buy ammo. I am concerned about our country's future.

Cal you need to learn you are just a confused, paranoid old man. No one outside of your group of old, scared conservatives thinks the way you do.

The questions would be all based in FACT. It wouldn't matter what side chose the questions because there is only one right answer.

Like I said, if I really wanted to screw the religious conservative group I'd add questions about evolution and physics and science in general. Answering "God did it" for everything won't get you very far...

I didn't call you a Nazi at all, you sick, twisted American failure in your own mind.

I just decided to pay you back for trying to denigrate me several times with no ,,, or little, @@ provocation.

Read it again. I simply referred to someone with your kind of rage, etc. who might become the next Hitler.

See? If you are going to put other people down because they disagree with you, "Retarded", "diminished skills, er, mental capacity"

etc., you should have the op to look in the mirror and see what is wrong.

You and the others do it because you lost your case, and you knee jerk angrily by demeaning the others who were right.

You libs can't help yourselves. Seriously, for all I've said that you do stuff, you keep doing the stuff I said you did.:)

I guess every American who votes against your failure of a pres is something degrogatory with you. Right?

And every one of those millions of Americans who, for one reason or another, go out and buy guns and ammo

to protect their homes have something "wrong" with them ,too, right?

Say, that's exactly what the Soviets did. You disagree, well, you have some mental something, so they put you in the Gulag.

Look at the extreme arrogance, and violence of the brownshirts - etc. Italy. Soviet Union states. Germany - nazi's.

"brownshirts" of a different type - "Muslim" extremists/terrorists. Obamao's TSA and "occupiers" and New Black Panthers, possibly.

It's a historical trend. Sick arrogance, and warped need to control, take power, and keep power (as well as $$$$$$ like saddam and sons)...

and the only way to keep that power... is to resort to intimidation, endless written and unwritten rules, violence, and the disarming of

citizens.

It's freakin history. And a good percentage of you sold out libs NEED to wake up and start being serious with how you

see the world and our own country. History repeats itself. Is it so impossible to comprehend that it wouldn't be tried here?

Obamao is doing exactly, so far, in the direction of making people fear the kind gov he really wants to install. How far will he really go? It's a worry. We can't just sit back and wonder 'what the hell?"... for now. But the direction of our country is a bad direction.

Americans are concerned all over this country. Millions of Americans are buying guns. Millions of Americans will vote out

Obamao in Nov. But Obamao's moves to actually ENCOURAGE social racial and economic strife is dangerous.

He doesn't care. We do.

My attitude is if you don't pay taxes and receive government assistance for over 12 months, you can't vote until you have gotten off assistance and paid taxes for a year.

People collecting the government cheese are always going to vote for whoever says they will increase the amount of cheese.

thats a bad idea

And Republicans keep taxes low so if you don't want to pay taxes you might vote there...
