Trent Richardson takes cancer survivor to her prom

One of the biggest night’s of Alabama running back Trent Richardson’s life will take place next Thursday in New York, but he spent this weekend helping to create one of the best nights of someone else’s life.

Richardson, who is expected to be one of the first players off the board in the first round, escorted 17-year-old Courtney Alvis to her high school prom on Saturday night after Alvis’ uncle reached out to some of Richardson’s friends at the university. Alvis was diagnosed with leukemia last year and is currently taking chemo maintenance treatments, according to WBRC-TV in Birmingham.

“I did it out of my heart,” Richardson said. “I’m lucky to be here with Courtney.”

Richardson’s mother has also battled cancer, something he said prompted him to accept the invitation. Whatever the reason, it’s a good turn by Richardson to help make the night a special one.

Whichever team winds up with Richardson next week is going to be looking for the same kind of fairy tale.

Mr Nice Guy. Mr Sensible. Mr Community. Mr Talented RB. Is there a reason why we should not take him @ #4?

Nice gesture ... But I hear Blackmon is going to play catch at the park with a young teen boy who has cancer, dad died on 9/11, Mom was killed in Iraq, and dog was burned up in a fire.

...In a word- No. Richardson is the peoples choice and for once I think that the fans of the Browns deserve a pick like this. C'mon Heckert, do the right thing! B)

Sorry PG- he's not the "People's Choice" he's YOUR choice. Maybe some of the other draftnicks picks too. Many, many knowledgeable commentators have stated the opposing view in today's NFL, you just DON'T take a running back that high.

My opinion? Richardson & Blackmon are BOTH high character guys- you forget this one?.... Blackmon's special friend ...

If we do take Richardson @ #4- he had better be more than just Adrian Peterson good, Ray Rice good. He had better be upper echelon HOF good- or we could have spent the pick elsewhere. Sorry if I'm not feeling the love, but frankly I don't think Richardson is that unique a talent.

fans deserve a pick like this? what does that even mean? are you advocating the FO cave to some fan pressure for a sexy pick even though it may not be the right move for this team? in other words...fuck winning.....we need this guy cause he's a nice hood ornament.

So you saying if TR needs to have say 1500 yards rushing with 10+ TD's not including what he will bring in the receiving game while Blackmon would only need around 1000 plus yards receiving and around 8 TD's. How does that make sense. Considering every poll I have seen over the past 2-3 weeks has 75-80% saying they want Richardson at 4 while the other 20-25% are split between wanting Blackmon, Tannehill, and trading down I saying Richardson has won the race for fan and pundit favorite as the Browns pick at #4.

Towards the topic subject Trent does come off ass cocky about his ability but this goes to show that he really is just a great character guy. I want someone who believes in his game, isn't afraid to say it, but is also going to be humble and down to Earth like this.

Come on Larry....the guy doesn't make the HOF and he is a blown pick??

At running back 'Peen? Let's say he just turns out Ray Rice good, Jones-Drew good. Cory Dillon good- Second round picks. Arian Foster UFA.

You don't need to spend the #4 overall on a just "pretty good" RB. Sorry if I'm not seeing the second coming of Jim Brown or Barry Sanders in Richardson.

exactly.

richardson will be good. like thomas jones good. like brandon jacobs good. he'll deliver when needed, for like 3 years. then we'll see him selling his pure pork sausage to guy fieti on diners drive-ins and dives.

"i like the way he runs down hill" yeah while getting speared on his thighs everytime he tries to get 3 yards because our OL can't block for shit. you think hillis was wounded by a sore throat? how about he didn't want to keep on getting killed by our opponent's defense? ooooh, sorry coach, my throat is a little dry. or was it more like these guys can't open a hole the size of a sardine can and i'm getting railed every play?

nothing would make me happier if we traded down, still grabbed claiborn then the best RT/OL then the RB. then WR and LB LB LB and LB.

Where did I mention anything about Blackmon? Irrelevant if you trade down. My point is- if you don't think Richardson is going to be way better than Rice or Jones Drew, then why are you drafting him 30 slots ahead of where those guys got drafted, and there's similar talent to be had on day two this year?

I'm not even saying don't draft Richardson- it's just at that level- I have mighty high expectations of him. Like about 12,000+ career yards, 100 TDs, and 6 or 7 Pro Bowls.

EXACTLY, DAMMIT ! And if you don't think a qb in the first round, will be better than Tom Brady, then why would you draft him higher than Brady wa....

hey.... wait a minute.....

Point is, we need to win. Which prospect will help us win in the short and long term, simple as that. Fuck draft value, draft for of needs, and dont get stuck with out dicks in our hands with a trade down.

cause drafting for need has historically worked out fantastically!

Don't draft for need but don't draft for value. The only positions in the NFL that should really have any kind of maximum round they should be selected in are FB, P, and K. I will also argue that C and G should not be taken in the top 10 and RT shouldn't be taken in the first half of the 1st round or until after pick 20. Other than that if they are the highest player on your draft board grab them.

OK I get your point- but this isn't well, you can find a Tom Brady in the sixth round, Joe Montana in the third. It's in the stats for top running backs 2011 style. The runner drafted in the first round is an endangered species. May be wrong and I don't have Gipper's time to research, but none drafted in the top five IIRC.

Man, u guys r tough, trent is a great football player and a genuine guy, at Alabama he has been the hardest worker on the team and very humble. I know college football is not as big up north as it is here. The kids here really look up to the bama players, this was a big deal to her and the school. If he is drafted by the browns, u will be impressed, I assure you.

assure me how? guarantee that he's a pro bowl running back? how do you know? will you pay me some reparations if he isn't? is there some alabama sniff that allows all you young college skids to see into the future?

yeah so he's a good guy. and you are somehow personally connected to him....how exactly? i mean do you guys sit around and drink suds together? are you BFFs? GTFO. you have as much knowledge of him as anyone else here does.

by your user name i would guess that you're in southern california. so you can read minds from across the nation? internationally? how about across space and time?
