What does everyone think of us releasing him now? I liked the guy but understand at some point tough decisions have to be made.

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Guard Eric Steinbach has decided to retire after sitting out all of last season because of a back injury.

Steinbach, 32, signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins in July but missed considerable practice time during training camp because of health issues. Coach Joe Philbin announced Steinbach's retirement decision following practice Wednesday.

Steinbach missed only three games in his first eight NFL seasons with Cincinnati and Cleveland. He was the Big Ten offensive lineman of the year with Iowa in 2002 and was drafted in the second round by the Bengals in 2003.

Add Shaun Smith to the list of former Browns without a team ... KC should pick him up so he can punch Brady Queen in the mouth again.

Titans release veteran DT Shaun Smith

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Titans have released veteran defensive tackle Shaun Smith a year after signing him to boost their defense.

The Titans signed Smith in July 2011 hoping to bring his experience and size to the defense. But Smith started only six of 15 games last season with 44 tackles and one sack, and the Titans have picked four tackles in the past two drafts.

Smith lost weight this offseason yet had only one tackle in two preseason games. The eight-year veteran tweeted Wednesday morning that it was time to see what team he will be with next and that he should have made better ''life decisions.''
