BEREA, Ohio - Cleveland Browns CEO Joe Banner sat down with The Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot on Thursday for an hour-long one-on-one interview on a wide range of topics, including his critieria for his first Browns staff, his own role with the organization and the future of Brandon Weeden.

Here are a few highlights from that interview.

Check back later today for the full Q and A:

• Banner said wins and losses won't determine who stays and who goes in terms of coaches, GM, etc.

"We're looking for leadership, attention to detail, character, those kinds of things," he said.

• He said he's biased toward having the coach have final say on the 53-man roster, because it worked well that way with Andy Reid in Philadelphia, where they went to five NFC Championship Games together.

• Banner said he wouldn't rule out the GM having final say, depending on how it all shakes out.

• He said it's entirely possible that he'll maintain the status quo, with Tom Heckert as GM and Pat Shurmur as coach. He said he's known Shurmur as an assistant, and is getting to know him as a head coach. He said he's always gotten along well with Heckert and knows how good he is.

• He said the coach and GM will both report to him, and that he'll be "one of four or five people in a room" making important football decisions. He said owner Jimmy Haslam will also be one of those people.

• Banner said that although he is not typically perceived as "a football guy," that he watched film on most of the Eagles" draft picks over the years.

• He acknowledged that he and Haslam have seven more games to determine if Brandon Weeden is their quarterback of the future, especially considering that the Browns might be drafting high. He said they'll rely on the experts already in the building to help make that determination.

• He knows he only has a couple of months to decide who should stay or go, but feels he has a head start from having worked with so many of the key people in Philadelphia.

• He said his strength is hiring good people, including Reid.

Also maid it very clear that he isn't just looking at friends. He is looking at every available person.
