CLEVELAND -- The Browns are expected to soon announce that George Kokinis has been hired as the team's new general manager.

The Baltimore Ravens director of pro personnel is able to look for a job elsewhere now that the team's season came to an end Sunday with a playoff loss to Pittsburgh.

Kokinis is meeting with Browns owner Randy Lerner on Monday, who is expected to offer him a job.

Kokinis interviewed for the GM job last Sunday.

So, Mangini and Lerner continue to get the guys they want. He reportedly gets along well with Manigini, one of Lerner's top requirements.

I'm not sure there's a GM I'd ever jump up and down about, but I would have been bummed if word came out Kokinis passed and Lerner was lining up interviews.

Kokinis as Cleveland Browns

GM not a done deal - yet

George Kokinis

CLEVELAND -- The Browns apparently are in no hurry to name George Kokinis as their next general manager.

A source close to their search said that as of this afternoon the club had no announcements planned for Monday. In fact, a second interview between the Baltimore Ravens pro personnel director and Browns owner Randy Lerner may not occur until later in the week.

But it's possible that Kokinis will meet with Browns coach Eric Mangini and his newly appointed coordinators prior to a second interview with Lerner, the source said.

After the Ravens lost to Pittsburgh in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday night, Kokinis said he would return to Baltimore with his team and strongly indicated he would be in Cleveland this week, possibly as soon as Monday.

Unlike a majority of NFL coaches who descended this week on Mobile, Ala., for practices at the Senior Bowl -- the major college all-star game of the scouting season -- Mangini elected to stay behind in Cleveland.

The highest-ranking Browns official in Mobile is T.J. McCreight, who is supervising the Browns' scouting staff in this transition period.

I hope Grossi's wrong on this. His "sources" have swung and missed a few times already this offseason.

Another source said that Kokinis cleaned out his office in Baltimore on Monday morning and was on his way to Cleveland.

Perhaps that is why Mangini elected to stay in his office rather than attend the practices this week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala. The Browns are not represented by their head coach at the major college all-star game of the scouting season.

Unless you cut pasted and left something out..it looks like Grossi already updated his article.

PFT:

As expected, Ravens director of pro personnel George Kokinis will soon be named the new G.M. of the Cleveland Browns.

Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Kokinis will fly to Cleveland on Monday for a “second interview” with owner Randy Lerner.

Writes Grossi: “Unless something unforeseen happens, [Kokinis] will be offered the job and will accept.”

The move will reuinite coach Eric Mangini with Kokinis, in a pairing that some league insiders are calling “Mankok.” The two worked together with the Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens in the 1990s.

Technically, the Ravens can block the move unless Kokinis has final say over personnel and the draft. The fact that Mangini was hired so quickly by Lerner could give Mangini a bit more juice than Kokinis.

Lerner has said that both the coach and the G.M. will report directly to him. The smartest approach for Mangini and Kokinis will be to assume that they have equal accountability, and to work together as if both their jobs are depending on it.

This is no different than anything else that has been reported.

Expected to be named is far different than your claim he has been hired.

He probably will, but this could have easily been added one of a couple of threads.

Misleading title......
