America’s 10 Poorest Cities Have Been Run By Democrats For Decades – And The Poor Still Vote ‘Em In!

by Stephen Xavier on May 13, 2013 ·

Interesting fact regarding America’s ten poorest cities; all large population centers, spread across wide regions of the U.S. have had Democrat mayors and councils for decades. A few have not elected a Republican mayor or council throughout the 20th century and not yet in the 21st century. Most have had Democrats in control for 50 years or more.

Liberals constantly bombard us with the need for their agenda and policies to be implemented to help the disadvantaged. Many of the country’s disadvantaged live in large numbers in the cities noted and Democrats and liberals have had full fetter to implement their ideas, policies and agendas for a long, long time. Yet the cities do not seem to improve.

We’re told more money, more entitlements and more liberal policies must be allowed in place and, due to the long Democrat control, this continues to be done. The cities, though, now tell us they must layoff workers, fire fighters, police officers, close libraries, municipal swimming pools, cut other essential services. Regardless, the Democrats maintain they must be re-elected so that they can implement more policies and entitlements and taxes to get the job done.

Some stats from the US Census Bureau in a American Community survey, August 2007:
Things may actually be worse in these towns now.

City, State, % of People Below the Poverty Level (pop. 250,000+)

Detroit , MI 32.5%
Buffalo , NY 29.9%
Cincinnati , OH 27.8%
Cleveland , OH 27.0% ......... only 5 percentage points away from DETROIT
Miami , FL 26.9%
St. Louis , MO 26.8%
El Paso , TX 26.4%
Milwaukee , WI 26.2%
Philadelphia , PA 25.1%
Newark , NJ 24.2%

I think it's a bit trivial to just say that these cities are poor, so democrats are bad. The cities - at least the ones I know about - had a big history of industry, we keep hearing all about how Cleveland is a 'blue-collar' football town etc. What this actually means is that a lot of unskilled workers poured in to these places looking for jobs in the mid 20th century, and when the jobs dried up - cheaper production in China moving the factories away, for example, these people were left with nowhere to go. Those cities that are now the richest - I'm just guessing here but probably NYC, San Diego etc. - were built on industries that are either sustainable or whose bubble hasn't yet burst, perhaps like the silicon valley cities.

So to that end, would a republican mayor have been able to do things significantly better? Perhaps, but I seriously doubt that we'd see a completely different bottom 10 list if they'd been voting in republican mayors for 50 years. Maybe one or two would be out of the list - maybe a couple of republican cities would then be in the list, who knows?

Are those cities poor b/c of the leadership or do they have that leadership b/c of being poor? A high % of poor/inner cites do not usually vote for republicans this is quite evident when presidential elections come up and a county with a high urban population votes dem and more rural counties vote republican.

Which is also brings up a strange point why does most of the states that are towards the bottom of the food chain financially(miss, west virginia, etc) always vote republican?

IT's the dems who are in bed with the unions, and went full go with all the pension plays for gov employees.

That's an economy killer right there.

Because there's nothing more fresh and insightful than blaming the plight of our poorest citizens - and everything that's wrong with America, really - on Democrats.

Yeah, fresh and insightful ..as if we need to make up more excuses and place blame elsewhere.

It is what it is.

Cleveland is poor because most of the low income jobs(manufacturing) has left NEO hence why we are considered part of the "rust" belt.

Does anyone remember when Slick Willy brought us NAFTA and all the jobs went to Mexico? Now we get Obama kissing the Chinese ass for vacation money, better known as bailout and stimulus dollars. We borrow and allow the Chinese to do what ever the fuck they want.

Why would I want to interrupt another one of these threads?

You guys say the things others are too intelligent to say.

It is clear that intelligent people can see what is in plain view.

You are losing your audience when it comes to facts. Time for you to go back to social justice issues and distract everyones attention away from the fact our cities are dying without jobs.

You may want to check your facts on that, while Clinton was the official signer of the treaty, it was negotiated and agreed on principle by Bush sr (in december of 92). Also more republicans voted for it than democrats 166 rep vs 129 dems

Oh yes we do need to remember it was the first Bushy who proposed this and then backed away from it after the facts came forward. First Bushy made many mistakes on trying to reach across the aisle to the libs in congress and it cost him his second term.

Not sure if you are referring to his presidency in general or nafta, considering most republicans voted for this(senate/house) and most dems voted against it. But I guess this is more off topic than inner cities are poor and ran by democrats.

Yepp, you are correct we are getting off the topic of how Democrats have enslaved millions in poor cities. They have looted social programs for their own wealthy gain while keeping the poor people in the inner cities poor while saying we are doing this for you. Just look at how many politicians are slum lords over section 8 housing and follow the paper trail.
