The Gipper
OK, this is Hall of Fame Weekend. Are you ready for some football? Here is some appropriate Trivia: 1. From the 1970 merger until last year (when for some reason they went against it) The HOF game had always pitted one AFC team vs. one NFC team. The only purposeful exception to this rule was in the year 2009, where there was a specific reason in this change. A. Which 2 teams played in that PFHOF Game? B. What specific reason were those 2 teams chosen? 2. When was the last time the Browns played in the PFHOF game, and what was the result? 3. Since the PFHOF Game was begun in 1962, 4 teams are tied with the most appearances in that game. Which 4 teams? 4. Only One team of the 32 teams has never been asked to appear in the PFHOF game. Which team? 5. Why is Hall of Famer Billy Shaw unique among all the players who have been inducted into the PFHOF? 6. Which of the following "positions" of a football team were NOT represented among this year's 15 finalists: QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB, DB, Coach, Owner, Administrator 7. Which team has the record for having the most individuals associated with that team inducted into the PFHOF? 8. Of the 280 persons now members of the HOF, there are only 3 of those persons...not counting Commissioners, who, as part of their career did not have any affiliation with any of the current 32 NFL teams. (In other words, they only contributed their talents to now defunct franchises). Name any of those 3 people. 9. A. Who represents Cleveland on the Hall of Fame Selection Committee? B. hoorta
Regarding #2, I would say 1999, when they beat the Cowboys. A better trivia question would be how many cases of rotten tomatoes would get launched at the podium if Art Modell ever got inducted. PS, Tony Grossi had the Cleveland vote, don't know if he still does.
The Gipper
Regarding #2, I would say 1999, when they beat the Cowboys. Check on this A better trivia question would be how many cases of rotten tomatoes would get launched at the podium if Art Modell ever got inducted. Uhm, actually, what you say here is a hint to the answer to one of the other questions. PS, Tony Grossi had the Cleveland vote, don't know if he still does. And check here. He still has the vote n/w/s that he no longer works for the PD. Of course, the PD going to 3 days a week makes them a minor local publication right up there with the Scene Magazine or the West Side Leader, or The Trading Post. The Gipper
OK, this is Hall of Fame Weekend. Are you ready for some football? Here is some appropriate Trivia: Answers 1. From the 1970 merger until last year (when for some reason they went against it) The HOF game had always pitted one AFC team vs. one NFC team. The only purposeful exception to this rule was in the year 2009, where there was a specific reason in this change. A. Which 2 teams played in that PFHOF Game? Bills and Titans B. What specific reason were those 2 teams chosen? Because it was the 50th anniversary of the AFL, and Ralph Wilson and Bud Adams are the only 2 remaining owners from the original AFL...plus, Ralph Wilson was being inducted into the HOF that year. (Note however, that the HOF has never "invited" Bud Adams to join them. Stealing the Oilers away from Houston sealed his coffin there. 2. When was the last time the Browns played in the PFHOF game, and what was the result? 1999, their first year back....20-17 win over Dallas (and, literally, all downhill from there?) 3. Since the PFHOF Game was begun in 1962, 4 teams are tied with the most appearances in that game. Which 4 teams? The Browns, the Steelers, the Redskins, the Saints have all appeared 5 times. Redskins are 5-0 in those games. 4. Only One team of the 32 teams has never been asked to appear in the PFHOF game. Which team? The HOF has said Fuck Off to the Baltimore Ravens. 5. Why is Hall of Famer Billy Shaw unique among all the players who have been inducted into the PFHOF? He is the only player in the PFHOF to never play in the NFL. He spent his entire career playing in the AFL. He started in the AFL's first season, and retired the year just before the merger. 6. There were 15 finalists from which the inductees were chosen for the HOF this year. Which of the following "positions" of a football team were NOT represented among this year's 15 finalists: QB, RB, WR, TE, OL, DL, LB, DB, Coach, Owner, Administrator Quarterback, TE, and Administrator. RB Jerome Bettis was a Finalist, WR Chris Carter was, Ogden and Allen on the OL, Sapp on the DL, Robinson on the LB, Aeneas Williiam at DB. Ownere Modell and DeBartolo. No Admins. 7. Which team has the record for having the most individuals associated with that team inducted into the PFHOF? Da Bears 8. Of the 280 persons now members of the HOF, there are only 3 of those persons...not counting Commissioners, who, as part of their career did not have any affiliation with any of the current 32 NFL teams. (In other words, they only contributed their talents to now defunct franchises). Name any of those 3 people. Fritz Pollard played for the Akron Pros, Steamroller, Badgers...but never any of the current teams Ace Parker played for Brooklyn Dodgers/NY Yanks/Boston Yanks Frank "Bruiser" Kinard played for the Brooklyn Tigers and NY Yankees. All other 277 people (except a few commish's perhaps) were at some time affiliated with the current 32 franchises. Jim Thorpe even played a year with the Giants) 9. A. Who represents Cleveland on the Hall of Fame Selection Committee? It is still Tony Grossi B. ESPN is represented on the HOF Selection Committee by 2 people who have at large status. Who are these 2 people? John Clayton and Sal Palantonio 10. What does this list represent: River Dell NJ Middletown Oh., Apopka Fla., St. Albans Washington DC, Yuma AZ, Mooretown NJ, Vintage, Napa CA These are the high schools of the 7 HOFers just inducted. 11. What does this list represent: Arizona St...Culp Colgate,..Parcells Miami, Fla....Sapp Ohio St....Carter Penn St....Robinson Sonoma St....Allen UCLA...Ogden Alma Maters of the 7 12. What does this list represent: Lynn Swann Carl Eller Paul Hornung Tom Mack Willie Wood John Henry Johnson These are the guys who "enjoyed" being a Hall of Fame Finalist the most years before finally being elected. Swann 14, Eller 13, Hornung 12, Mack 11, Wood 10, Johnson 9.
