Given that there's a distinct possibility that EJ Manuel won't be playing week 1 through injury or Kolb-ness, there'd be no rookie QBs starting. First time since...? Gipper, get on it, there's some trivia for ya ;)

I think Tuel is slated to start if Manuel doesn't ... so rookie either way!

If you ask a question....you must know the answer. But I am going to make a guess and say possibly 2007. That was the year the Great Smashing Pumpkins when it came to QBs: Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn were the 2 first rounders. I know Quinn didn't start....and I don't think Russell was given the starting job out of the gate that year.

Nope, not a clue - my NFL knowledge stretches back about a year!

2004 will still go down as the best QB draft class since 83? when Marino and the gang were picked. 2012 could also easily fit that bill.

Well, lets look at that, shall we. Here are the most productive members of each quarterback draft class since 1983 inclusive:

1983: Elway, Marino, Kelly, OBrien, Eason

1984: Steve Young, Esiason, Hostetler, Schroeder

1985: Kosar, Cunningham, Bono

1986: Jim Everett, Rypien, Brister

1987: Testaverde, Chris Miller, Jim Harbaugh, Rich Gannon, Steve Beuerlein, Majkowski

1988: Chris Chandler, Stan Humphries

1989: Aikman, Rodney Peete

1990: O'Donnell, Jeff George

1991: Favre, Craig Erickson

1992: Maddox, Jeff Blake, Brad Johnson

1993: Bledsoe, Brunell, Grbac, Trent Green

1994: Dilfer, Frerotte

1995: McNair, Kerry Collins, Kordell Stewart

1996: Tony Banks

1997: Jake Plummer

1998: P. Manning, M. Hasselbeck, Charlie Batch, Brian Griese

1999: McNabb, Culpepper, Aaron Brooks, Couch

2000: Brady, Pennington, Bulger

2001: Vick, Brees

2002: Carr, Harrington, David Garrard

2003: Palmer, Leftwich, Grossman

2004: E. Manning, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Schaub

2005: Alex Smith, Rodgers, J. Campbell, Orton

2006: Cutler, Vince Young

2007: Kolb, Trent Edward

2008: Matt Ryan, Flacco, Chud Henne

2009: Stafford, Sanchez, Josh Freeman

2010: Bradford.... Tebow, McCoy? (they are the next best two in terms of production)

2011: Newton, Ponder, Dalton, Kaepernick

These are not necessarily in order of most productive QB per year....but these groups are the most productive QBs of that particular year. A few years, like 1996-97 really only had one person worth mentioning.

Note: those in Bold are in the HOF. Those in italics are good chances for future HOF. RED means Super Bowl winner. Blue means Super Bowl loser

27 of the 32 starters were first or second round picks. 24 were first round picks. Brees, Kaep, and Dalton were very high 2nd round picks, BTW. Wilson, Brady, and Romo are the only current "exceptions," guys were true finds after round 2.

But Pryor is on track to start in Oakland, not whatsisname.

Bottom line: Starting quarterback is the most first-round-centric position in football.

I don't think Pryor starting is absolutely determined yet. He was a supplemental draft pick...but I can't recall the round. It wasn't first...second?

Interesting. When I gauge that list I was seemingly looking at franchise level QB's. looking over that, I would still contend 2004 was the best year since 83/84. Even though Rivers is declining now all 4 of those guys have been franchise level for years. There seemingly wasn't another class with more than two, or more than one with super bowl rings.

Well, if you recall, there was a long time thought that the vaunted class of 1983 could end up without any SB rings. Those guys had all fallen short: Eason lost one, Kelly 4, Elway 3, Marino 1....until Elway's final hurrah in the late 90s that got him his rings. But, for 15 years...1983-1998 they had none.

That class of 2004 has already doubled 1983 ring total.
