We heard a disturbing revelation this morning on America's Newsroom, as the UN atomic watchdog warns that a truck carrying potentially "extremely dangerous" radioactive materials has been stolen in Mexico.

The truck was transporting a cobalt-60 teletherapy source intended for medical use from a hospital in Tijuana. It was heading to a waste storage center when it was stolen on Monday in Tepojaco, near Mexico City, the International Atomic Energy Agency said.

"At the time the truck was stolen, the source was properly shielded. However, the source could be extremely dangerous to a person if removed from the shielding, or if it was damaged," the IAEA said, according to Agence France-Presse.

Mexican authorities were searching for the truck Wednesday morning.

Casey Stegall reported the latest details this morning. He said the missing materials are commonly used for cancer treatments.

In March 2012, the head of the IAEA specifically mentioned cobalt-60 as a material that could be mixed with conventional explosives to make a dirty bomb.

Homeland Security officials told Fox News that the U.S. Border Patrol is aware of the stolen truck and possesses equipment that can detect radioactive material.
