THE BROWNS BOARD

Josh McDaniels

Actually I think it was his sister that forced him to sell the team to her because of that, not the league. While Eddie Money was suspended, I don't think he was required to divest himself of the team. There may have been some hinky financial dealings with the team that caused the sister to wrest control away from him....but that was basically an internal family situation.

Here is a link to various articles about that.

http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/d/edward_j_debartolo_jr/

Now, the NFL can and has directed that an owner divest himself of ownership if his actions are affecting the financial stability of the organization.....can you say Art Modell, and Victor Kiam (and the guy from Philly who was losing millions gambling...Leonard Tose I believe)

But, just having a criminal record...which does not affect team finances? Suspension, yes, probable. Outright divestiture, no.

And even if the NFL did require outright divestiture that doesn't mean things couldn't be turned over to another family member, like DeBartolo to York. Jimma could "give" the team to his dad, son, brother.

The other situation where the NFL has stepped in is where a family has interests in gambling venues. The Steelers were actually owned by like 5 Rooney brothers, and those brothers had ownership interest to race tracks in Tampa....and the NFL demanded that they either divest themselves of the racetrack...or the Steelers. Dan Rooney stepped in basically and bought out his brothers who decided to keep their racetrack. Hell, that is how Haslam became a minority owner of the Steelers. Some of his money was used to pay off the Rooney brothers who were leaving.

I think browns149 is more correct. the nfl more or less forced Eddie out.

I watched the bio on the nfl network on him a while back and it was acttually an interesting show.

If you want to watch it search the web for "A football life, Eddie DeBartello". Its a long show so it may take a bit to watch.

I remember there was alot more to it than even what your various articles describe.

OK, but just like the search for the coach....who would you bring in to run the football operations (i.e. to replace Banner), and to be the GM/Personell guy (to replace Lombardi)

Omar Kahn= Steelers director of football operations/Cowher's right hand man when it came to player personnel decisions

Eric Decosta = Ravens / Ozzies right hand man since 1996

And Chip Kelly made it to the playoffs in his first year with a second year QB.

Meanwhile, we won 4 games with two QB's that have 15 years experience combined.

Chip Kelly benefited from a weak NFC East and a cupcake schedule overall. The eagles east wins: 2 x Redskins, Cowboys (without Romo), Giants, Bucs, Raiders, Green Bay (without Rodgers). The only decent wins are against the Bears, Lions, and Cardinals (by far the best win). Kelly no doubt had a great first season but I still have my doubts.. This could be a season similar to the Browns in 2007. NFL experience also means nothing when you are talking about a retread QB in Campbell.

He also had the second rated offense in the NFL, with the Eagles tallying up over 400 yards and 27 points per game.

The Eagles were a dynamic offense all season long. They dropped 24 on a top 5 Saints defense. They dropped 24 on a top 10 Arizona defense. They dropped 36 on a Top 10 Giants defense.

The Eagles scored 30 or more points on 8 separate occasions. The Browns achieved the same feat only thrice this season.

Everybody claimed Kelly lived and died by having a dual threat QB, yet they made it to the playoffs with a relative statue running the offense in Foles. What Foles was, however, was efficient. No doubt, in part, because of the offensive system Kelly runs. Defenses don't have time to catch up, nor are they disciplined enough to adapt quick enough to the relatively small wrinkles Kelly's system relies on.

While there's no doubt a lack in offensive power in Cleveland in comparison to Philadelphia, Kelly would have managed to win more than 4 games here, no matter how abysmal the defense played.

Search Eddie DeBartolo Jr. and you will see he was intertwined with the Governor of LA. And after years of lawsuits, the NFL MADE him sell out to his sister

Tell ya what- you put Foles and LeSean McCoy on the Browns and I damn guarantee you Chud wins a hell of lot more than 4 games.

Never said anything about love for the current FO, just some faith and hope. And if u want, I'll make a case for McDaniels... Who can u make a case for?

Well, seeing as the guy you responded to asked you what made McDaniels a good candidate I think, yes, we'd like to see a good argument for him. Go ahead ...

Please explain why James Franklin would want to come to Cleveland to coach this organization? He's already a legend in Nashville, and, if reports are true, being offered the world by Penn State.

We have to face facts: Right now, the Cleveland Browns are not in a position to attract a really good head coach, either from college or the NFL ranks (assistants or retreads).

For those complaining about possibly getting McDaniels, please say who you think would be better that we could actually get to come here. I posted this a few pages back and as far I've noticed, I haven't seen a response yet. Who do you want? Stop complaining and post who you would want to come here.

I would likely give you a shot at the job over McDaniels. Although you seem to be a little bossy it is likely you are not the childish egomaniac fuckhead McDaniels is. When put in charge he doesn't seem to play well with others.

Were fucked, nobody wants to come here

7+ hrs courting McDaniels and he says fuck u! Does not look for the three stooges. We are on plan c, d, e, ect ... This is fact people. James Franklin is a lateral move at best..

Well, at least not McDaniels, Praise the Lord! But as many here predicted, we're screwed. The Stooges had no clue of the ramifications of shit-canning Chud after one year. If they thought just waving a boatload of money, and lying out their ass how great a situation it is coaching the Browns- well, we're seeing the results. Maybe a guy like MacAdoo will be their only option. NO ONE with any NFL cred is going to give them the time of day. Maybe they can start looking at top High School Coaches who want to make the jump to the Big Time.

I was higher on him than most, but you have to put "higher" in the right context.......... Like braking my arm hurts less then breaking my hip. I feel more hopeless today with all of these names I'm reading, then I have in quite some time. Fuck these guys.

I wasn't crazy about McDaniels simply because I knew he was stepping into a shit hurricane. What pisses me off about this is that YET AGAIN they let shit leak about how they're closing in on their guy and it's just a matter of time till his teams playoffs are over and then he's down on the dotted line. And YET FUCKING AGAIN the dude they said was a pretty much a done deal says'.....NAH! It has to be humiliating for FO cause it's cringy as hell for fans.

To the FO, if there's a guy you want....stfu until he actually signs. Just stfu. Somebody asks say no fucking comment we talkin to all kinds of nigga's. Next fucking time I hear about the next browns HC it's cause they actually named the next browns HC. Fuck sake...how is Haslam a billionaire? Can somebody esplain that to me? How did this guy make money in the business world yet be this incompetent at basic human resource theory?

This right here is why I think I'm so fired up. The whole Chip Kelly saga last year, followed by what I perceived as the FO having to settle for Chud. 11 months later, and the same thing has happened.....again. I guess we're going to have to settle yet again for someone who the FO will then pound their chest for and say" We got the guy we wanted all along", and think that they can keep shoveling horseshit down our throats, while telling us it's caviar.

Fuck these guys

I wonder if he earned his $$$ or just fell into Daddys! He sure seems to have a passion for big, costly fast & BAD decisions, doesn't he?

We'll just have to see what happens next.

Mike
