Finally upgraded my browser so I could run this fucker... I hate IE11, but mission accomplished, as my wee hours of the morning, bloodshot eyes can attest...

While it's unrealistic (JF in round 2??? Really?) what I do like about it is that it forced me to:

  • - take a more holistic view of the draft which has "unstuck" me somewhat from my Watkins-crush; and
  • - look at other players... to expand my "sleeper list" if you will.

Anyway here's three different scenarios I am kinda fond of. A lot of the pieces are the same... especially in the backend.

04 OLB ANTHONY BARR UCLA
26 OT ZACK MARTIN NOTRE DAME
35 ILB CHRIS BORLAND WISCONSIN
71 WR JARED ABBREDERIS WISCONSIN
83 QB JIMMY GAROPPOLO EASTERN ILLINOIS
102 OT SEANTREL HENDERSON MIAMI
123 RB JAMES WHITE WISCONSIN
133 S KENNY LADLER VANDERBILT
164 TE CROCKETT GILMORE COLORADO STATE

What else is interesting is taking other teams and seeing what the 'puter dreams up for us...

I played for my wife's Texans a bit ago and I think we paid dearly for it...

My Texans' Draft:
1 QB BLAKE BORTLES CENTRAL FLORIDA
33 S HA’SEAN CLINTON-DIX ALABAMA
65 RB TRE MASON AUBURN
97 WR MARTAVIS BRYANT CLEMSON
129 CB KEITH MCGILL UTAH
161 WR RYAN GRANT TULANE
193 CB PHILLIP GAINES RICE

The Computerized Browns' Draft:
4 WR SAMMY WATKINS CLEMSON
26 QB JOHNNY MANZIEL TEXAS A&M
35 G XAVIER SU’A-FILO UCLA
71 CB E.J. GAINES MISSOURI
83 RB CARLOS HYDE OHIO STATE
102 C BRYAN STORK FLORIDA STATE
123 G WESLEY JOHNSON VANDERBILT
133 RB MARION GRICE ARIZONA STATE
164 WR MICHAEL CAMPANARO WAKE FORREST
195 RB ANTONIO ANDREWS WESTERN KENTUCKY

I quickly went from "Cool... it took Sammie, JF and Xavier" to "WTF??? 3 RBs???"...

I have 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 TE, 1 OG, 1 CB, 1 ILB, 1 S ... Have a couple of different versions, but most have that same make-up of positions. have to really think about DL and OL some more, I think. Not sure how confident they are in all those guys, particularly Rubin for his salary cap hit, Desmond Bryant's health, Mitch Schwartz and both OGs.

Well, you know what I think of our O-line...

I just dove into D-line prospects while doing a second draft for the Texans, who need some help there. As stacked as I thought we are (especially if in route to a 4-3), I had not given D-line much thought, but you raise some points I had not considered. I think/ hope most of them resolve themselves, or move significantly towards resolution, by the Combine.

Anyway... there's a kid at Louisiana Tech named Justin Ellis that is blowing me away. It's a real "man among boys" scenario... and not in a Jerry Sandusky way. And apparently it carried over to the Senor Bowl against better competition. He's 6'2 342 lbs and has been clocked at 5.3 in the 40. Right now the kid has a Round 4/5 tag.

Well... I've run 10 sims as the Texans now... 2 each with the overall #1 spent on Bridgewater, Bortles, Manziel, Clowney and Mathews.

Here's a few results:

  • 6 of the 10 sims took a QB at #4 (Teddy 3 times; Bortles once and Carr twice).
  • 5 of the above 6 took a WR at #26 (most often M. Lee); the 6th took a RB (Mason)
  • 4 of the 10 Sims took Watkins at #4 followed by Manziel at #26.

Each of the 10 Computer sim of our Browns included: 1-QB, 2-WRs, 1-RBs, 1-C, 2-OGs for 7 of our 10 picks... (70 of 100).
For the other 30 picks:

  • 6 of 10 included two RBs and 1 of 10 included 3 RBs (8 of 100);
  • 3 included OTs (3 of 100);
  • 4 included a DE (4 of 100);
  • 1 included a DT (1 of 100);
  • 1 included a DT (1 of 100); and
  • 7 included 1 CB; 3 included 2 CBs. (13 of 100).

Nothing earth shattering, but it gives some insight into the sim's designers' evaluation of our team and the areas needing improvement... primarily QB, RB, WR, and O-line.

Since they "update the site every Tuesday" it may be interesting to see whether or not patterns vary with time.

Here's my latest, and I really, really like it.

Round 1 Pick 4: Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina (A) - We need the BPA at 4 overall. This guy may be the greatest individual talent in the draft. Bridgewater and Bortles were gone, Manziel is too big a question mark to take this early. With him, our defensive line becomes absolutely stacked, and we play more sets with 4 down linemen.

Round 1 Pick 26: Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State (A-) - Seeing as we passed on the top 3 QBs, we're still hurting in this regard. Luckily, Carr fell to this position, and taking him here is a much better value than for any QB with the 4th overall.

Round 2 Pick 3: Gabe Jackson, OG, Mississippi State (B ) - Might be reaching a bit to grab him, but we desperately need a guard, moreso if Mack leaves. Here, we snag the top guard prospect in the draft.

Round 3 Pick 7: Bishop Sankey, RB, Washington (A) - Vertical, explosive runner, fills our need at RB. I think he's a better prospect than Hyde.

Round 3 Pick 19: Yawin Smallwood, ILB, Connecticut (A-) - Here's a guy that will provide depth at ILB, potentially challenging Robertson for his spot.

Round 4 Pick 6: Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, Eastern Illinois (A-) - Getting this guy in the fourth is a steal. Not sure if this happens, as it means we'd have to cut Weeden.

Round 4 Pick 27: Jared Abbrederis, WR, Wisconsin (A) - He thrashed Roby one-on-one. Also a steal to get him in the fourth.

Round 5 Pick 5: Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska (A-) - I don't expect this guy to be gone by the end of the third, maybe in the fourth. He's built like Richard Sherman, biggest CB prospect in the draft.

Here's a pretty good mock.

4 WR SAMMY WATKINS CLEMSON - adds what many consider the best WR in this years draft.

26 QB JOHNNY MANZIEL TEXAS A&M - I would say it this way... RG3 is a poor mans Johnny Football.

35 WR JARVIS LANDRY LSU - adds a really nice receiver that makes amazing catches, even if he only gets one hand on it.

71 RB LACHE SEASTRUNK BAYLOR - adds a fast, shifty runner with excellent hands and a fifth gear rare to RBs.

83 S AHMAD DIXON BAYLOR - adds a nice S that could step in next to Ward to create one of the best S duos in the NFL.

102 CB STANLEY JEAN- BAPTISTE NEBRASKA - adds a good CB with good size at nearly 6'3" who can help cover taller WRs.

123 TE JACOB PEDERSEN WISCONSIN - adds a big TE that can catch and help free up Cameron.

This would give us:

QB- Hoyer/Manziel

RB- Seastrunk/Lewis/Baker

WR- Gordon/Watkins/Landry/Benjamin/Little

TE- Cameron/Pedersen/Barnidge

CB- Haden/Baptise/Skrine/McFadden

S - Ward/Dixon/Gipson

FB- There is a really nice traditional FB available in the fifth, hope he's there.

Simulator aside... What do you guys think about taking Sammy Watkins at #4 and then trading back up with our other first and a third, maybe a forth and taking Mike Evans as well.

WR#1- Josh Gordon

WR#2- Sammy Watkins

WR#3- Mike Evans

WR#4- Travis Benjamin

TE#1- Jordan Cameron

TE#2- Colt Lyerla

Having all these targets for Bryan Hoyer would be awesome though, right?
