Westside Steve
Apparently they are only stopping Tesla Motors from selling direct in New Jersey. None of the major car manufacturers sell direct anywhere either. So rejoice any of you guys who have 100 grand to spend. Maybe they should try to get toys r us to participate in a dealership program? Or maybe this could be a fresh start for Radio Shack? WSS
LogicIsForSquares
They don't sell direct because the New Jersey Coalition of Auto Retailers has a ton of politicians in their pocket. They have to get their part of the sale or else they make sure you can't sell in Jersey. More crony capitalism.
Westside Steve
Just saying, you can't buy a Ford direct either. Or a Fender guitar, a Maytag washing machine or a Doc Johnson's butt plug. WSS
LogicIsForSquares
A vendor should be able to sell direct if they so choose.
DieHardBrownsFan
If they can sell one for 20-30 grand, make a 450 mile range, and recharge in 5 min or under I'm onboard.
Westside Steve
I'd suggest the best way for recharging would be have standardized batteries that you can swap out at a charging station. WSS
Osiris
I got the chance to sit in one and check it out as they have one of their mall showrooms one town over from me. Loved it and I dream of owning one. I asked if there were plans for more affordable models and they said yes. Not sure they'd go as low as 20-30k but maybe 30-40. http://www.forbes.com/sites/jaymcgregor/2014/03/31/tesla-to-offer-affordable-cars-by-2015/ And yes, the only people that benefit from blocking direct sales are the dealerships. VaporTrail
Why do these vendor laws exist in the first place? Was the purpose of it to prevent a government monopoly?
LogicIsForSquares
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/04/03/bill-would-require-florida-craft-brewers-to-sell-beer-to-distributors-then-buy-it-back-for-resale/ Same issue as the car companies selling direct. If you sell anything direct, the old middle man will make sure his government buddies will fuck you solid.
