THE BROWNS BOARD

Muslims have banned pork from Subway.

I think all religions are nonsense. That said, has anyone considered the fact that maybe these countries are fucked up and they just happen to have Muslims in them? We are talking about countries that still have a strong tribal background. The religion could just help to stoke the backward behavior that is likely already there.

Finally someone with half a clue. You correctly recognize that it's the tribal background that is a major part of the problem. In fact you will find a pretty direct correlation between the level of freedoms in a country and the recentness of their tribalism. However, religion in these countries has been a counter-balance to tribalism. Upon inception, religion outlawed several tribal customs that existed circa 625 CE, the most egregious of which was female infanticide. It also gave women property rights that did not exist prior.

The other major factor driving the problems in these countries is scarcity of resources and lack of education. The best and brightest of these countries emigrate from them, leaving few people to help develop them.

I'm 100% athiest and I can't stand anyone or any religion that denies rights or gives themselves rights in the name of religion.

Islam wants you to tolerate it, but it won't tolerate you.

Christianity here in America denies rights to homosexuals, women's choice, and serveral other lines

I fucking hate all religions but at this era in Human history, Islam is the most rampant.

I can appreciate your honesty.

What I find despicable is the hypocrisy of libtards. They claim to be advocates of womens rights, gay rights, racial tolerance, equal rights, yet are so quick to defend Islam which opposes all of these...in the name of tolerance.

Christianity opposes gay rights. And you are miseducated about Islam is. Directly from the source:

[3:195] Their Lord responded to them: "I never fail to reward any worker among you for any work you do, be you male or female - you are equal to one another.

[4:124] As for those who lead a righteous life, male or female, while believing, they enter Paradise; without the slightest injustice.

There are many other verses from the Quran like this. What you should be asking is WHY there is so much inequality and injustice in the name of religion, but you most likely don't give a damn cause you need someone to hate.

Without having read enough of the quran to comment, why is that women seem to be treated as second class citizens in the name of islam if there are no verses relating to it?

That being said, far too many people use their religion of choice as an excuse to treat anyone they don't like as second class citizens. People quote scripture about being gay, people used to quote scripture on slaves, people used to quote scripture on why women shouldn't vote etc. and forget the main message of 'be nice to everybody'

Get your head out of the sand. I lived in Saudi Arabia, and mine wasn't in the sand.

Christainity opposes only gay marriage. Islam puts gays to death...and enough with the leftist hyperbole, making it sound as though Christians are against all rights for gays. .

Thanks for asking good questions instead of just ranting hate. Much of it is vestiges of pre-Islamic tribal culture, where women had zero rights. If you look at Saudi Arabia, which was still tribal 100 years ago, you will see that they are further behind in women's rights than in Turkey and Egypt, which have less tribal culture. There is still work to do, but I don't think anyone would think of my mother, a retired chief of medicine of a hospital, or my aunts, who are pharmacists and college professors, as second-class citizens.

The other main factor is low literacy and education. Many people who ascribe to the religion can't even read. So how do they learn? They learn from a supposed scholar. This then opens said scholar to interject his own biases into the instruction.

Here is the tricky part about quoting scripture, too. The Quran is a collection of narratives AND instruction, depending on the part you are reading. There are parts that tell a story only, but are misinterpreted as instruction, especially by the haters. For example, they will take the quote about fighting the pagans that persecuted the first Muslims and quote it out of context. It's like reading a novel where an American robs a bank and trying to say see, all Americans are instructed to rob a bank.

Erm, wrong? Gay marriage is a hot button topic, but Christianity opposes any form of man-on-man action. Less so woman-on-woman, strangely - women can do what they want, apparently.

Lol @ you lived in Saudi Arabia. You don't want to get into a pissing contest with me about who knows more about the Arab world and Muslims. I AM Muslim, and I was born and lived many years in Egypt, and travelled to several other ME countries.

Lol you think Christians haven't killed gays? Ironically enough, by stoning:

Thing is, I'm not really interested in besmirching Christians because EVERY Christian I know personally is a very good person, just like EVERY Muslim I know is a very good person. What I'm interested in is pushing back against people who want to label an entire group of people based on the actions of a minority. It's clear that kind of behavior has gone uncontested on this board for way too long.

Hey Osiris,

Here's a scenario that would make your brain short circuit and fry.

Recall the outrage from you leftist freaks over Phil Robertsons comments regarding gays?

Instead of him saying "gays won't go to heaven", what if Phil had said "In the Islamic religion, they execute gays".

Outrage still? ...because if you condem Phil for his anti gay stance, then you would be condeming Islam...but wait, we only condem Christianity..,

Liberal brain fry!!!...that does not compute!!!

Apparently you completely missed my previous post with the links of Christians, including a pastor, calling for gays to be executed. That's some awesome conservative jujitsu there. Your hilariously hypocritical, eyes wide open to the transgressions of others yet completely blind to people doing the same shit in your own back yard.

You have serious comprehension issues apparently. Where did I equate those two things? I deliberately cut out anything you said about islam to focus only on your point about christianity.

Osiris. I have a serious question for you. As I'm sure you are aware, there are quite a few Christian Egyptians in the Cleveland Area. I know quite a few (yes really). They all tell me of the horrible persecution they receive in Egypt and that is why they left. What is your comment on this? I don't know obviously since I have never lived there.

Sixty minutes even did a piece on it:

I appreciate you asking a serious question. Unfortunately when I click on that link they want me to buy the 60 minutes app to watch it (I'm on an ipad). I haven't lived in Cleveland for many years so I'm not familiar with the population there, but we do have some in MA as well. In the place where I lived in Cairo there was a Coptic Church literally two doors down. I never saw any persecution of them and they often had weddings that spilled out into the street. My wife's neighbors in her apartment building in Egypt are Coptic, and they are friends with my wife's family. When we visit, they invite my kids over to play with their kids.

I'm not telling you this as some form of denial. I'm telling you that it's not part of every day life for the majority of people living there. Christian and Muslim Egyptians both have a lot more in common than not, and most will tell you they are Egyptians first. I have heard countless tales of instances where Muslims and Christians in Egypt defended each other from either Muslim Brotherhood or government hired thugs.

Yes, persecution exists in Egypt. Persecution of minorities exists at some level in just about every country on this planet. In Egypt, It got worse thanks to the Muslim Brotherhoods brief rule, and should get better now that they are gone. This is one of many reasons Obama was foolish to support them.

Clashes and interfaith violence happens, but it is wrong to account it to religious texts because the texts specifically say Christians and Jews are to be respected as are people of other religions. The reasons why some professed Muslims don't adhere to these rules is explained in a previous post.

The root cause of persecution of Christians in Egypt is: lack of education among the rural populace where most of this violence occurs; incitement to violence caused most often by the Muslim Brotherhood and Salafists, which not surprisingly have there strongest hold among these rural populations; and to some extent, government thugs interested in disrupting any possible alliance between Muslim and Christians like what occurred during the 18 days of the original revolution.

As for the fact that most of the Copts you know left due to persecution, well that a self-selecting sample. In other words, the Copts that leave Egypt are leaving due to persecution for the most part, so you are unlikely to meet any Copts who left for any other reason. There are still about 15 million or so Copts living in Egypt. That's about 1 in 4 Egyptians.

Go ahead and ignore me. I won't mind. No sense in "debating" with someone that takes the Bible literally.

I'd make fun of an Islam light cover that has the light switch where Muhammad's penis should be too if I saw one.

It is messed up, that's the point, lol . Someone, somewhere, ok'd production of this.

Also, most of the things you call "insults" are facts. If it insults you when someone says evolution happened, maybe rethink your beliefs.

But again, I think all religions are pretty much ridiculous. We just so happen to be in a Christian nation. Plus, you annoy me, so this is more fun.

Off to graduation!
