Clevfan4life
Kerrigan didn't even have his hand in the ground on one of those sacks where he bulled Schwartz like a bitch. Everybody's saying this is just preseason but something tells me that Ryan Kerrigan would have had a highlight day if this was a couple games into the season. He'd better clean that technique up by the start of the season. If not you all can bet that the Texans line up Clowney as the left OLB on the 16th of Nov. If our o line play goes as it did last year I'm not even gonna watch that game cause you can bet Watt is gonna shifted over the right guard too. Anybody remember a few years ago that game between the 9'ers and Chicago where the Bears o line was helpless against Aldon and Justin Smith? Watt and Clowney may embarrass the Browns O line worse than that. Record for most sacks in a game is 12, if that right side is as bad as it was last year 12 sacks will look like a solid protection effort in comparison. Gips
Schwartz and Greco are the weak links on the offensive line.. I am far from impressed with either of them..
gftChris
His first 2 seasons, schwartz has started terribly, then become more solid as the season progressed. For example last year, he allow something ridiculous like 7 sacks in the first 4 games, then maybe 4-5 in the next 12. I don't remember/can't find the exact numbers, but it's that ball park. If he can start at that level, not just finish, then he's very solid. If he has another up and down season, we might be looking for a top draft pick to play RT for 5 years, then take over from Thomas maybe.
cdl15
Again just another player that is what in his 3rd? 4th? different coach since joining the Browns. Hard to get a feel for a position that way. Thats what makes Joe Thomas so good.

Clevfan4life
It is our most glaring year to year weakness yet we never fix it. Everybody wants the best new shiny qb in the draft but we never build anything to protect them first. It's comically ridiculous.

Clevfan4life
QB is a very close 2nd. If our line didn't suck and the qb's were still as terrible as they have been..than I would put that first. It's hard to put it all of our qb woes completely on the qb's since 99 because with the exception of maybe one year, ain't none of em had time to do anything besides get killed. I am thoroughly convinced that Peyton Manning would have lasted 2-3 years in the NFL had he been drafted by the Browns. You can take the best qb's in the league and if you put them behind our O line they will be avg at best. Than factor in the appalling drop rates of our receivers and you can see where this is going. A qb that has to get rid of the ball quickly and receivers who don't feel like catching much if it requires a whole lot of extra effort out of em. Most glaring weakness year to year? You wouldn't maybe call that QB?
The Gipper
The Schwartz will be fine. WE have far weaker links than he.
Clevfan4life
I hoper you're right but you do know he's going to go up against far far better this year than Ryan Kerrigan right? Suggs comes to mind...he usually lines up over JT but you can bet your ass Blt will put him on the other side. By the time we play Indy Mathis should be off his suspension so that's the best OLB in the league. Like I said if the season isn't going well I'm not even going to watch the Houston game because Watt and Clowney are going to be put on the left side of their D line. I'm really not sure what is a "far" weaker link than our O line. Because if the O line is good which gives the qb time, he has a better chance of making those breadbasket throws that apparently are the only passes our wr'ers are willing to hold on to. We could have better qb and wr play but if that right side is gonna fold like it did last year.....it doesn't matter who's playing qb for us if he as 1.5-2 seconds to throw the ball. Secondary's will be jumping all of our quick routes the whole season. This isn't hyperbole this is what we all witnessed last year....right? The Schwartz will be fine. WE have far weaker links than he.
choco
Good god...every one of your threads picks out a single player and overemphasizes a play or 2. Yet, you never say anything they have done well. Pretty sad schtick actually. Your a fucking baffoon demanding perfect play every game....including preseason. So a porous right side to the offensive line isn't a recurring theme over the years? I'm not picking out a couple plays dude get a hold of yourself. This has been going on for years. And frankly offensive line play can't afford to be lax even in preseason because it's not like defensive players aren't trying to lower the hammer on a qb in preseason. Be serious now. Have you forgotten what happened in Miami opening day last year? You know we play Pgh and Blt upfront right?
Clevfan4life
Yet, you never say anything they have done well. The only other player I've really ever singled out was Paul Kruger for his lackluster edge rush, but I always admitted he was tough against the run last year. Possibly one of the best OLB'ers against the run 1 year separated from being rated as one of the worst. But his bad outside rush technique cost us a lot of sacks last year, it's just a fact. In any case your above statement is categorically false I really am not sure why you made it. Puzzling.
Tour2ma
I'm no Schwartz fan, but actually Kerrigan is pretty good... He has averaged 8+ sacks/yr each of his 1st 3-years.

choco
http://thebrownsboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29979 On the opposite side of my reply topic coin..... http://thebrownsboard.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29974 Just the first page man... So forgive me for think you perhaps overreact a bit when during one preseason game, you demnify one player while hop on the bandwagon of another. Flavor of the week, is your opinion. While I totally agree AB needs playing time, suggesting changing the base defense is not only a completely baseless question (switching philosophy based on the emergence of a late round pick), but the question itself suggests you're not paying attention to the philosophy of pettine and O'Neil. The better question would be to ask whose snaps is AB gonna be taking, cause he's a player in this league. I'm sorry to condescend, but his knee jerk bullshit is driving me nuts. Be the best fans in football that we are and think a bit about this crazy ass shit before you post.

Be the best fans in football that we are and think a bit about this crazy ass shit before you post. 1) what was demnify mean? I know what "indemnify" means, it's a legal term. I don't know who's bandwagon I'm hopping on either unless you're referring to my post about Armonty....who also played well last year when he got snaps. So don't know how I'm jumping on his bandwagon 2) Look at my thread title...I was saying I "almost" wish we would switch defense's. Only reason I say almost is because I'm giving Kruger and Sheard one more year to produce. If they don't I want us to go back to a 4-3 which honestly if you look at our depth at defensive line is what most people would assume we would run. Look at where our pressure on the qb came from last year and nothing has changed in preseason...it all comes up the middle. So it's not a "knee jerk" reaction to say ok we've got one season under out belt and in 2 pre-season games we're seeing a continuity of last years paradigm. The guys on the d-line are beating their man. The guys on the edge not so much. I'm not saying OMG we need to run a 4-3 against the steelers. But if by the 8th game we've got like 2 or 3 sacks out of our OLB'ers but lineman are tearing it up....yeah why wouldn't you put 4 down lineman in? From what I've seen last year and so far this year...Armonty is one of our best ends. The kid can ball. He was the one who initially blew up Alfred Morris on that goal line stand as well. That wasn't the skins 2nd team he did that against. If Bryant continues to flash when we put him in as the situational 3-4 DE, why am I knee jerking around when I say maybe we should see him in there more often which by the way mean we would need to run more 4-3. Clevfan4life
The better question would be to ask whose snaps is AB gonna be taking, Well....he's not going to play the NT, DT... or the tech 3-4 on 1st and 2nd downs. For him to get a lot of playing time he'd be playing the 4-3 DE. Soooo I guess that mean he'd be taking snaps from Kruger and Sheard because if we went to a 4-3 and he wasn't on the team...they would be filling that role.
