Guest Posted August 31, 2014 Report Posted August 31, 2014 Per nfl.com. So we running with 2 qbs? Yes. They are both healthy. so ... Zombo
Ibleedbrown Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 It's looking like a reasonable possibility that we'll keep Shaw in the fold on the Squad. I'm guessing if he was gonna get snatched up it would've happened by now. Hell, Neckbone McFadded got snatched up...
Clevfan4life Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 why would we cut the guy who knows the system the most? WHy would we keep Shaw over him? makes no sense
Ibleedbrown Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 I think they're banking on Rex not going anywhere. So we got him on speed dial.
Guest Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 why would we cut the guy who knows the system the most? WHy would we keep Shaw over him? makes no sense Need roster space for guys that are going to actually play. Hopefully Hoyer starts 16 ... and we've got a young, healthy backup. Zombo
calfoxwc Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 well, I lost the link, but Pettine hinted? that Grossman will be back a bit later....
Ibleedbrown Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 well, I lost the link, but Pettine hinted? that Grossman will be back a bit later.... He said this: "I wouldn't read too much into where it stands right now," said Browns head coach Mike Pettine. "There are some guys who aren't here who potentially could come back. There are some guys who are here who won't be here. The roster situation right now is very fluid." Pretty vague. Almost like saying nothing, except with words.
sisky fringo Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 shaw signed to PS eggzellent....BWAHAHAHAHAHA!
TopDawg31 Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 eggzellent....BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Shaw will be JF's backup next season when Hoyer bolts to Detroit to be the Lions starter.
nky brown Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Rec looked the best of all three. Hell he'd be my starter. He knows the system plus experience. I just dont git it. Manuel looks like CRAP!!!!
nky brown Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Makes perfect sense Shaw signing with Steelers. He will give them the browns offense plays.
DieHardBrownsFan Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Makes perfect sense Shaw signing with Steelers. He will give them the browns offense plays. Who is this mentally challenged newb?
TopDawg31 Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Who is this mentally challenged newb? sounds like a squealer fan
cvcanedy Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Rex I meant. Did you also mean Manziel? You're on fire.
hoorta Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 why would we cut the guy who knows the system the most? WHy would we keep Shaw over him? makes no sense Major reason $$$$$. As a 10+ year vet Grossman's minimum is around $950k. Shaw gets peanuts, and draws a weekly check. Plus, we bring Rex back after week one, Grossman's contract isn't guaranteed anymore. The Patriots pull this sort of stuff all the time. I think they're banking on Rex not going anywhere. So we got him on speed dial. ^+1. Makes perfect sense Shaw signing with Steelers. He will give them the browns offense plays. Except the Squealers can't do that- against the rules. A team can't pull a player off another teams practice squad & sign them- if they play that team within 10 days. If they want to get the Browns plays, I suppose they could sign Grossman, but it would cost them about a million bucks to get the playbook. & really, you don't think offensive coordinators change the way they call plays on a weekly basis, just to prevent that from happening?
TexasAg1969 Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 Considering he was brought in to help develop JM, this was a bit of a surprise. Either JM is coming along better than they expected initially or Grossman was not taking to the new role very well. I would hope they were not just using him all along with the intent of dropping him to make 53. I know it's a business but that would be pretty low. I thought he played well enough to be primary backup to Hoyer, buyt then I am not at practice every day either.
Tour2ma Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 Considering he was brought in to help develop JM, this was a bit of a surprise. Either JM is coming along better than they expected initially or Grossman was not taking to the new role very well. Is that why we brought in Grossman? If yes, then there must be a third alternative explanation for his leaving.
Mudfly Posted September 2, 2014 Report Posted September 2, 2014 Is that why we brought in Grossman? If yes, then there must be a third alternative explanation for his leaving. I think the Browns were "hoping" he'd be a good teacher/coach for the other QB's, but he really didn't pan out to be a helpful guy at all. I do know his very first interview came off as pretty rough(assholish, actually) and he said he wasn't here to help Hoyer or Manziel, he was just here to play football. Then, mysteriously, THAT interview disappeared from the air waves and an hour later he was on the news saying "he'd help however he could.....that he's a team player, blah bah blah".... No matter how much he knows about Shanahans O, if he's not a good and willing teacher, then there is no point in having him....
