Barkley states that that acquistion of Alston by the Magic, have "Put them over the top!", when asked to clarify what he meant by that, he stated, "He now puts Orlando ahead of Cleveland, with only the Celtics to over-come". Barkley went on to state that he thought Cleveland needed to make a trade for a 'Big', and that they needed help.

The panel thought that Alston was an upgrade over Nelson in the Magic's offense.

Jon Barry thinks the only trade that will have an impact is the one that sent Rafer Alston to the Magic.

The Orlando Magic acquired one more point guard -- Houston's Rafer Alston -- to fill the void created by Jameer Nelson's season-ending shoulder injury.

Orlando, Houston and Memphis have reached agreement on a three-way trade.

After acquiring Tyronn Lue from Milwaukee earlier this month as its first Nelson fill-in, Orlando has managed to land Alston by agreeing to surrender a first-round pick to the Grizzlies.

The Magic sent Brian Cook to Houston and Adonal Foyle, Mike Wilks and a first-round draft pick went to Memphis.

"Rafer is a starting veteran point guard who shoots the ball well," Magic general manager Otis Smith said in a statement. "He gives us added depth and athleticism in the backcourt . We thank Brian, Adonal and Mike for all of their contributions and wish them all the best."

Smith also announced Nelson underwent season-ending shoulder surgery Thursday afternoon. The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. The rehabilitation will take 4-6 months. Nelson dislocated his right shoulder and suffered a torn labrum on Feb. 2 vs. Dallas.

Ehh..we'll see. We were ahead of the Magic in the standings when they had Nelson, and Nelson is an all-star while Alston is not. Alston may be the more talented player, though.

We didn't have scraps llike Brian Cook and Adonal Foyle and Mike Wilks to send. We had Wally Szczerbiak, a very solid player once an all-star, JJ Hickson one of the brightest young big men in the league, and Andy, one of the more sought after big guys in trade talks around the NBA the past few years. Both young big guys with potential. Along with a first round draft pick, I still think we would have had to give away way too much.

who is surprised that barkley ripped on the cavs again? alston won't make that much of a difference. he is an upgrade, but he won't help the team like nelson did. barkley must have formed this opinion when that hooker with the best blowjob ever told him the majic made a trade

The idea that Alston makes the Magic better, and that he is better than Nelson is just silly. Does he help ORL, for sure. He's an upgrade over what they had to play at PG once Nelson went down. But Alston for his career only averages 10pts a game, a little less than 40% shooting from the field, and 5 asts a night. Dude couldn't help get HOU passed the 1st round with T-Mac and Yao. Meanwhile Nelson was giving the Magic 17pts a night this year, shooting 50% fromt he field, and 5 dimes a night. I'd take Nelson any day, and the Magic are much scarier with him than w/o him.
