He does a good job at teaching that history is a bit of myth and legend mixed with the truth. Though he never answered the first question "how did Columbus convince the queen to finance the voyage?" WSS Partially spices he thought the world was a lot smaller than it actually is, and felt by sailing west he could trade with India(spices) and China(silk) faster than going south around Africa(the way the Portuguese where searching). Had to look this part up but he thought it was estimated to be about 3,000 italian miles(3,700km) from the Canary Islands to Japan when it was actually 12,500km Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

WSS Yep, most thought the world was round...all they had to do is look up at the sun and moon. The stories of Columbus and Magellans crews committing mutiny because they thought they were going to sail over the edge are false. Mutiny had occurred but for other reasons.
