ClevelandFanForLife
I have a question about trades and salary. Let's just say that we cut Derek Anderson. I know that we would be responsible for paying him his contract if he never played again. However if someone picked him up, how much would we have to pay him? Also, let's say that Anderson is traded. Am I right in believing that we don't have to pay him anything else aside from what we have already paid? Just curious and a little confused on how the whole contract/trade thing works. Thanks. ballpeen
If we cut him, we wouldn't owe him anything other than any guaranteed money. If he was traded, the terms of his contract are traded as well.
YtownBrownsBacker
If we cut him, we wouldn't owe him anything other than any guaranteed money. If he was traded, the terms of his contract are traded as well. Absolutely right. We would also be on the hook, cap wise, for any money paid that was prorated over the 3 years of his contract. Which would be another $3 million. So the prorated $3 million and this years $5 million would be our cap hit. That should be all the guaranteed money left on his contract. ballpeen
I understand. I wasn't even trying to get in to cap implications.....just simply trying to answer a question.
