It's commonly called polecat. The idea is that if they blitz immediately over too, you swing it out to a quick screen.

Then seemed like they got what they wanted... So why wasn't the "QB" expecting a snap?

I still don't get it? Two guys in the middle? Where was the quarterback? I don't get Pagano's explaination? What were they doing? Are they smoking pot during the games?

Trying to trick the "Trickster" is a desperation ploy. An admission of inferiority! You can't fool Mr. Belicheat because he has forgotten more than Pagano knows about football.

I didn't watch the game, but I mistakenly deduced what I thought the play was from what I heard others say.

 

Turns out it wasn't a polecat formation, but swinging gate. Swinging gate is sometimes run at the prep level for trickeration. At the pro level, it's more commonly run to try and catch the defense with 12 men on the field.
