calfoxwc
Oh, and Sashi ? has a news conference at 10:30. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/article-5/Sashi-Brown-press-conference---421/36b714b5-bf9e-4d75-838d-8e3a2b2bb4d8 anyways... I saw this, and what if... the Eagles wanted to be sure to get ...Elliot? http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2016/04/nfl_draft_2016_ezekiel_elliott_says_eagles_showing.html Maybe the niners get their qb after all? this draft is nuts. If Elliot falls to the Browns, if Buckner falls to the Browns, those are the kind of players you can't get later on in the draft, I think. It's been said that Elliot is one of the best rb's since....Adrian Peterson. Seems that it is impossible to do a mock draft now.
Guest
They're taking a QB, Cal. If they traded a king's ransom for a RB, you can just go ahead and fire everybody now. Zombo
jrb12711
Just absolutely not true and won't happen. The GM for the Eagles yesterday directly spoke about taking a QB and they are comfortable with taking either guy depending on who the Rams take: (http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nbc-yahoo-sports/eagles-gm-howie-roseman--we-will-take-a-quarterback-with-no--2-pick-193712713-nfl.html). Unless he's providing the biggest smokescreen in the history of sports, just not gonna happen.

Tour2ma
Agree... QB... They are doing with Bradford what I thought we might do with RG3. Namely play him hoping he has a great year to inflate his trade value, and move in 2017 to our shiny, new QB we took at #2 in 2016. Doesn't mean the Eagles faked interest in/ love of Zeke... just had higher priorities.
calfoxwc
Oh, probably. I'm listening to Sashi's press conference. He said the trade down didn't have to do with going with analytics - said it was a football decision, and just decided the value was worth it, there's also qb's later on. This draft will be the most stupifying draft. Clevfan4life
Those two qb's need development we likely weren't gonna get em. I think the trade is good even if goff or wentz end up good. Cause it's likely they would have gotten roflstomped in Cleveland
cambridgeho
It was nice to finally hear people say "wow" the Browns actaully did something good. I hope Philly takes someone like Tunsil, and right then and there Mel Kipers head explodes, along with all of thier fans.

TexasAg1969
I wonder how bad Miami wants Elliot...... They can wait for the big man. He will still be there with something to prove about his ability to tromp over LB's and outrun DB's. If they really need a power back in that O who also has hands and blocks rushers, his name is Henry.

Am I the only one disturbed by this? Was he pressed on this point? If true, would seem to be more egregious than dropping $100k on a QB study only to ignore it. I mean the whole fucking point of this revamped FO was to emphasize fucking analytics... and right out the gate we fly by the seat of our pants? I mean the whole fucking point of this revamped FO was to emphasize fucking analytics... and right out the gate we fly by the seat of our pants? I'm not disturbed at all. This is obviously a slab up rebuild, instead of the knock down a few walls and paint rebuild that we're used to. The draft is like 100s of plastic Easter eggs, some have $5 in them, others have $100 in them, and a few have $10,000 in them........ Oh yea, many of them have dog poop inside as well. Sometimes the 2nd egg picked has poop inside, while the 199th pick has a key to Fort Knox awaiting the lucky owner. The Browns are obviously going with the more is better approach here, and they get to pick 6 of the first 100 eggs...... Not rocket science, just good business. calfoxwc
analytics were a part of the process, but not a determining part. What he was saying, is that the decision was a football decision, which it had better be. I think if Luck had been right there, I would have taken the trade down. Sure, I love the idea of Wentz being the qb for the Browns... but the trade down, and the various needs to upgrade the talent with the Browns, is huge. Which is the way it is, because of stupidass, poor drafting of the wrong players so many times in the past. So many of the drafting mistakes the Browns have made in the past, have been because they didn't have "character/love of the game/work ethic" as part of their criteria. That would have saved them from JM, Gordon, Gilbert (though he may still come on..?), etcetc. As long as the Browns hit on their picks, more players are worth far more than any one player. Even Wentz, as much as I hate to say it. I'll be sittin there with my large chocolate Frostie from Wendy's, in one hand, and my rootbeer in the other, waiting to see how this all plays out.... You may watch 'Bama, I've seen enough of OSU football to say with confidence Elliot is the best back coming out of that program since Eddie George. I'm sure you know Elliot's pass blocking and hands catching the ball are superb. Way faster in short burst and shiftier than Henry to top it off. Nothing like having a good running game to take the pressure off RG III.
calfoxwc
I agree. Elliot is that great a rb to go for. Dallas surely picks him. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000649235/article/afc-rbs-coach-compares-ezekiel-elliott-to-adrian-peterson

What he was saying, is that the decision was a football decision, which it had better be. Yes... and I blame the early reporting... Just listened for myself and feel better... at least on the part I went off about. In initial part of answer downplaying analytics, Sashi had a full-blown, shit-eating-grin on his face. When he went "stoic" his comment was: "Analytics are a piece of all decisions, but there was no driving force that came from analytics function to make this trade." Close to a quote, I think... anyway I feel better on this point. However, one other statement concerns me... "We did not do much towards assessing QBs in the 2017, 2018 drafts." Too much like a chess player who thinks only one move at a time for my taste. I wrote a bit about Scenario Planning a while back. It was prompted by being a part of Depo's background. I hope to hell he's led an effort in this area.

Certainly if it's my time to pick and both backs are right there, then I go with Elliott. But if I'm the Miami GM I just wait and take Henry rather than sell out the whole team to get there. Edit: Just watch sport science on NFL Live on Espn and they were saying Henry had the fastest 5 yd acceleration of any player they tested in the draft in the past 3 years and could bull through a series of heavy bags faster than anyone tested. Also had the fastest 20 yd time of anyone tested in this year's draft. The said he was a hybrid Eddy George. Elliott was better at the jump cuts and quickness to find the hole on par with Peterson. They compared him to Beastmode.

Elliott was much, much, much, much much better at the jump cuts and quickness to find the hole on par with Peterson. They compared him to Beastmode. First... fixed the cuts comment... It looked like Henry was creeping around the poles. It was cool that they were angled so the lower a RB ran the more he could shorten the distance. That said Sport Science was made irrelevant for me when Wheezy killed clays... And what about Miami? They badly miscalculate how far Zeke would fall or what? I mean we are sitting where they started.... weird, but potentially very profitable.
