..........how this might serve to stimulate the economy. To me, it looks like another misuse of taxpayer's money for non-germane reasons.

Maybe all worthy efforts but not under the so-called stimulus package.

Connecticut Seeks Stimulus Funds To Catch Internet Sex Predators

Courant Staff Report April 12, 2009

Connecticut has applied for $584,975 in federal stimulus funds to strengthen state and local efforts to catch sexual predators who use the Internet to target children, Gov. M. Jodi Rell's office said Saturday.

The money, through the state Department of Public Safety, would be used to support efforts by state and local police departments with training, forensic analysis, community awareness programs and upgraded technology, Rell said in a news release.

Among the goals are:

•Expanding the child sexual predator training program for first responders at the state police forensic laboratory in Meriden.

•Funding the Catch A Predator initiative, which would train 27 local officers to participate in undercover investigations.

•Funding efforts for more "knock-and-talks," which put officers on the ground in neighborhoods where suspects may live.

•Expanding student-to-student education to 60 schools a year.

•Purchasing desktop and laptop computers, forensic hardware, cameras and other technology upgrades.

It's actually quite simple, John.

These funds are going towards the elimination of those Dateline NBC-style pervs, if I'm not mistaken. So if this stimulus is used correctly, these pervs will no longer be able to engage with or try and meet up with kids any longer, which is great. But it seems like you are taking issue with how exactly this stimulates the economy. This is quite simple.

Instead of actually being able to meet up with these kids or Chris Hansen, due to these new measures, these pervs will have to subscribe to "teen porn" pay websites, thereby adding a stream of cash back into the economy at a greater rate than it existed previously.

And don't worry, even though these pervs think they are looking at 12 year olds posing naked, there are really looking at 37 year old chicks with braces, headbands, rollerskates, saggy tits and stretch marks.

Looks to me like everyone wins here.

Go Stimulus Go!

The problem of adding money from the stimulus for fighting crime is the fact that it will more than likely be added to the general fund and a 2 page report will be sent out to the state police on internet stalking.

It wouldn't be stimulative. They're just looking for federal money since state money is kind of hard to come by these days.

If not the highest taxed state in the nation, CT residents are easily in the top 3. So, in my opinion, there should be plenty of money for this type of stuff.

Remember, I don't necessarily have a problem with these actions, just the notion that expectations might becoming that Uncle Sam has bottomless pockets and can be tapped for just about anything.

You hit the nail on the head, T.

For example, take the Billions of dollars paid by Tobacco Companies to states. The class action - at least in our great State of CT (<G>), specified that the money be used for smoking cessation and anti-smoking initiatives.

Guess what? These payments are nothing but gouging of the cash cow as virtually no of the monies go toward activities specified in the agreement. In short, it is transferred into the general account and it becomes account-less.
