OldBrownsFan
The electoral college isnt' going anywhere, some people are going to have to learn to deal with it. The first obstacle is polls showing popular support for the electoral college. The second obstacle is it would need approval of 2/3 rds in the Senate and the House and finally voter approved in 38 states. Not going to happen. MLD Woody
"it's hard to change" isn't exactly support for the current system
gftChris
It also doesn't stop OBF getting all excited about abortion laws which will never be passed.

OldBrownsFan
And a lot of Americans are scared by the word "nuclear" in nuclear power I don't see anyone scared of the electoral college. Most see the need of it and it coincides with the principles of the founders of this country in setting up a republic and not a true democracy and to prevent concentration of power in certain areas of the country. MLD Woody
My analogy was more to highlight ignorance, not fear.

The Cysko Kid
Well then you're a sociopath. A lot of people don't understand nuclear power. You have to be able to understand how they feel
MLD Woody
Fear out of ignorance. I can understand where they're coming from, but it doesn't mean they're right. At a scientific, technical level nuclear power is a great option. We have misconceptions leading to fear holding it back.
gftChris
The number of people killed as a result of Fukushima was in the hundreds, and it only happened because of an earthquake - pro-tip, don't build nuclear reactors on fault lines. Meanwhile, air pollution casualties runs into hundreds of thousands (in the US), to say nothing about respiratory diseases. Of course, that would need to be scaled to the number of power plants of each type. There are around 500 fossil fuel plants in the US. That puts it at around 400 deaths per power plant. There are plenty of other concerns - global warming from fossil fuel vs literal fallout from nuclear disasters, but those are becoming a lot more rare. Then there's solar, wind, hydro, tidal... DieHardBrownsFan
Actually, the Tsunami is what caused the nuclear disaster. The plant was shutting down per protocol when it detected the earthquake the Tsunami did the damage.
