Republicans turn the tables on obstructionist Democrats, confirm two nominees in committee

– Republicans who lead a key Senate panel suspended their own rules Wednesday and advanced President Trump’s picks to lead the Treasury and Health and Human Services departments unilaterally, saying they had no choice after Democrats boycotted committee votes for a second day in a row.

The Senate Finance Committee advanced Steven Mnuchin to lead Treasury and Rep. Tom Price as health secretary on Republican votes along, clearing the way for a confirmation vote before the full chamber. Both nominees made it out of committee on 14-0 votes.

The votes were supposed to occur on Tuesday. Yet Democrats derailed the markup by refusing to show up, which meant the panel didn’t have the quorum needed to do business. At least one Democrat must be present.

They failed to show for the rescheduled markup early Wednesday, leading to the rule change.

“They have nobody to blame but themselves,” Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, Utah Republican, said.

the last three presidents, Bush and Bill Clinton had 10 cabinet nominees confirmed..

in January. Trump got 2.

This extremely immature, even infantile, tantrum throwing by the dems is going to backfire.

Their arrogance in rubbing the Reps' faces in it, when they owned Congress

the first two years of obamao's corrupt regime, has backfired.

They gave the reps all the reason to have backbones and kick dem ass right back,

including the nuclear option. What goes around, comes around. Hairy Reid changed

rules to spite them, so Pandora's Box was opened.

It's really corrupt for the dems to say they were going to fight like all hell to stop the

Supreme Court nominee... without even knowing who it was. That is really crap,

since the reps gave obaMao his two lillylivered activist leftist "judges".

it's heartwarming to have a Real American president who knows

full well how to salute and respect our military.

and our Constitution. And all Americans, no matter what color or religion they are.

We saved America, you betcha. Meanwhile, Ruth Darthvader Ginsburg is 83, surely

she wants to finally retire and live the good life...

I think it's adorable you think you saved America btw

I think it's adorable they are calling Democrats obstructionists considering the last 8 years and considering how they used obstruction to steal the Supreme Court seat that Obama was to appoint.

You can make the argument of delaying the nomination for a supreme court justice in an election year and let the people decide. What argument can you make when the democrats fail to show for hearings because they don't like a nominee? I don't think the republicans liked too many of Obama's nominees either but they didn't act like democrats and skip out of hearings. They did their job.

I never took osiris as awhinie ass liberal goof, but there he goes.

They gave obamao two really extreme corrupt activist supreme court justices.

They gave Bill Clinton his two. But no, they were all bitchy because they didn't get

to take ownership of a liberal stupidass court "permanently" on obamao's way out the door.

For many decades there was an unwritten rule in the senate not to have supreme court justices nominated and appointed during an election year. The reasoning is there would be an election later in the year and the people would decide the direction of the court. So for the republicans to not to have hearings on a supreme court justice in an election year is not anything new. It has a long precedent. What has no precedent are senators not showing up for confirmation hearings to try and stall confirmations of candidates they don't like. Fortunately the republicans control the senate and were able to put a stop to their shenanigans and had the vote without the AWOL democratic senators.

Exactly. Liberals break the rules when they have the advantage. But if they don't,

they will raise hell about the rules being broken.

Scott Pruitt’s Nomination Advances To Senate Floor

To paraphrase the Duke of Wellington after Waterloo, the Democrats came on the same old way and the GOP saw them off in the same old way. Angst provided by the New York Times:

Senate Republicans pressed forward on Thursday with the confirmation of President Trump’s controversial nominee to head the Environmental Protection Agency, Scott Pruitt, suspending the Environment and Public Works Committee’s rules to approve the cabinet pick despite a Democratic boycott.

The 11-0 vote sends the nomination to the full Senate, where Mr. Pruitt is most likely to be approved next week.

Democrats and environmental groups have waged a fierce campaign against the confirmation of Mr. Pruitt, the Oklahoma attorney general, who has led or taken part in 14 lawsuits aimed at blocking E.P.A. regulations, including Obama administration policies aimed at tackling climate change.

A day after Democrats on the Senate environment committee boycotted a planned vote on Mr. Pruitt’s nomination, the panel’s Republicans reconvened on Thursday and temporarily suspended the committee’s rules, which require the presence of at least two Democrats to hold votes, and approved Mr. Pruitt.

The Democrats’ boycott and the Republican response followed the same pattern that played out this week on the Senate Finance Committee, as Democrats sought to block action on the nominations of Representative Tom Price of Georgia to head the Department of Health and Human Services, and of the financier Steven T. Mnuchin to lead the Treasury Department.

I don’t know what the Democrats thought was going to happen. They may have been relying on McConnell’s long pattern of gutlessness to carry the day. Regardless, Scott Pruitt is going to the EPA and I hope he brings a platoon of bloody fanged employment lawyers and brooks to resistance, active or passive. The EPA has been a law unto itself for decades. Even under the GOP is acted as a hive of far-left activism that was devoted to the destruction of as much American business as possible. But a new day is dawning and it is one in which the EPA will find itself accountable to both the American people and to Congress.

Oh, HELL YEAH. The prominent reps acted like they were terrified of the left

with obamao at the helm, steering our America to belligerent leftwing globalist

disaster.

Elections have consequences - and the dems don't always get to decide when.

These political attempts to try to deny our Real Pres from changing the way things are,

and will be, is a new low of dirty politics.

If they could have stacked the court with their activist good buddy judges, they could

have owned all of us. Good for the reps. They found their backbones.
