New Mexico College Launches Study Group To Confront “Depravity Of Whiteness”

Over at St. John’s College in Sante Fe (New Mexico), they are on the verge of solving the problem of racism and sexism in the world.

 

You’ve just got to crack down on white men.

 

According to Campus Reform, an email was sent out across the St. John’s campus, announcing a “study group,” and encouraging all those white devils creeping around the school to attend a four-part hammering session, where their “privilege” will be pointed out, and they’ll learn to be “self-critical.”

Oh, yeah. Most college age students have the kind of self-esteem needed to withstand four sessions of people yelling at them over things they can’t control (like their race and gender) and telling them what horrible creatures they are.

 

I’m equally sure their parents want to pay big bucks in tuition for them to learn to hate themselves, as well.

 

The email reads:

“This is a group where those who most often exhibit racist and sexist behavior–white males–can begin to be self-critical of the very dangerous, brutal, and depraved hierarchical pathologies of superiority, supremacy, and inferiority handed down to us by white Euro-American institutions,” an email advertising the study group elaborates.

Participants will apparently deal with two main problems, those being “the depravity of whiteness and the brutality of masculinity.”

“The main topic for discussion will be an ongoing one: How do we deal with the depravity of whiteness and the brutality of masculinity? How can we get to the root of this problem?” the announcement confirms.

The email goes on to explain that members of the study group will “read about and discuss the privilege of white people (especially white males), patriarchy, sexism, and racism in the neoliberal capitalist empire of the United States of America,” warning prospective attendees that “the discussions will be graphic and contain graphic material.”

 

Somebody should bring muffins.

 

Maggie Reitz-Wells was the sender of the ridiculous email, and serves in the Office of Student Life.

After further attempts to get information from the college, nobody seems to want to talk about it.

I don’t blame them.

 

I would suggest that if marginalizing a particular segment of the student body and holding them up to scorn and condemnation is going to be par for the course there, then perhaps the parents need to take the appropriate steps to relieve the campus of those students they obviously don’t value.

When I first went to my ship it was in drydock in Long Beach being re-fitted. We had a really cool Chief Petty Officer in charge (who unfortunately would be retiring in a few months). He was a trip. I remember when he would hand out the paychecks we always got this speech, "there is no way any of you goldbrickers and sickbay commandos can honestly look me in the face and take this paycheck so turn around and I will hand them out". So all of us would turn around so he could hand our check to us behind our backs.

I just looked up what the shellback initiation was. Sooo, were u navy boys ever curious as to why the other services thought u were all flaming homosexuals? I have to admit I always sort wondered too why the navy always took the most flack for that. But now my questions have been answered.

 

That initiation is without question the definition of "gay shit". Im not sure gay porn is as gay as what I just read. Crawling around in garbage and eating cherries out of fat men's navels I mean wtf did I just read?

 

 

" There's 3 types of U.S. Navy shellback I know about, your standard type, the "golden" (crossing the equator at the international dateline), and the "emerald" (crossing at the prime meridian, and very rare).

 

So, you want to know what the initiation is?

 

Like all good initiations, the shellback is a secret one, meant to welcome sailors and other seafarers into the exclusive ranks of those who have come before.

 

In days gone by, the initiation was not quite voluntary, and a lot more painful. In recent decades, though, as hazing became unacceptable, this one tradition (along with a few other, non humiliating ones) was allowed to continue, only toned down a bit.

 

While I'm sworn to secrecy about the details, I will heretofore imperil my soul and the lives of my children to provide a tantalizing glimpse at the process of becoming one of the elite.

 

There are some preparations involved, such as saving back a few bags of garbage from the mess decks, and letting them stew in the tropical sun. More on this in a moment.

 

Generally, the day before the actual initiation, the non shellbacks, or "pollywogs" are allowed a bit of fun at the shellbacks' expenxe. First, there is a beauty contest, with any "wogs" who want to particpate dressing up as prettily as they can, and competing in a pageant. Of course, looking too good after being to sea for awhile can be risky, so most guys try for really ugly.

 

Also, during that day, the wogs are allowed to run wild, playing pranks on the shellbacks. Anyone is allowed to not participate in the actual initiation, but participating in the pre-festivities, then bowing out, is usually frowned upon.

 

On the (very early) morning of the initiation, all wogs are gotten up and forced to crawl around the berthing deck, which is covered in things like mayo, ketchup, peanut butter, and anything else the galley gave up. After about 30 minutes of this, the wogs are moved up to the flight deck, sprayed with seawater, and made to do pushups. This is not normally something unusual, but for the ceremony, all wogs must wear their uniform inside out (they aren't worthy yet to wear the proper uniform), and the flight deck is covered in a nonskid coating that is very sharp and rough, and is painful on the knees, elbows and hands.

 

Another shellback comes around with a jar of "beauty cream", a mixture of peanut butter, mayo, and anything else they can throw in, and provide the wogs with hairdos.

 

After an hour or two of this, it's breakfast time. All wogs who want to eat have to crawl down to the mess decks (since they're not worthy yet to stand like a real sailor). There, they go through the line and receive their chow, which might consist of something like green pancakes and green hard boiled eggs (still in the shell). A kind shellback provides a generous helping of sugar, and the wogs are directed to their tables, where they must eat without using their hands (since wogs aren't worthy to use them like real sailors).

 

After this, it's crawl back up to the flight deck, more pushups and seawater and hairdos.

 

Then, the wogs are directed to crawl around the perimeter of the ship on hands and knees (non skid the whole way 'round), over a firehose with holes punched into it to allow a healthy spray of seawater in the face while doing the tour. At the end of the tour is the garbage chute, a large cardboard tunnel covered in that rotten garbage I mentioned earlier. I was *fortunate* enough to be the second one through during my initiation, meaning I got the full depth of the garbage, including the puke from the first guy. The garbage gets pushed out by the time the later, unfortunate, wogs come through.

 

At the end of the chute is "baby Neptune", usually the fattest shellback on the ship. His belly is covered in Crisco, and each wog is required to remove a cherry from Junior's naval (signifying the wog's "virginity"). I didn't understand what I needed to do with it and ate mine, only to have to return for a second helping and told only to hold mine for the duration. The wog is then given a treatment a "beauty parlor", usually more of the yummy hair treatment.

 

Finally, a "bath" in a water filled coffin (built for the occasion, not a real one), since the wog must be presentable for consideration to the ranks. After the bath, a solemn request is made to King Neptune himself (another shellback), who deems the wog worthy, or not, to become an esteemed shellback.

 

I'm sure the procedure varies from ship to ship, or even crew to crew, but the basics are consistent. Decades ago, the ceremony included a beating with a short length of fire hose (called a shillelagh), and other friendly forms of mild torture, but these were banned as too extreme. Everyone abides by the ban, partly because the commands won't allow them, but mostly because nearly every sailor wants the tradition to continue.

 

Don't pass this information along, or, at least don't tell anyone where you heard if from, lest I be spirited away one night and find myself in a dark cell and excommunicated from my fellow shipmates. "

While I don't agree with the demonization effort that's being made by this and other universities across the country. I do feel as though all men and women do need to remain in a state of self evaluation. A lot of people, regardless of race, tend to mistake fortuitous outcomes with sound judgment and decision making. I think that a university wide effort needs to be made to teach students how to be self aware, good self evaluators, and knowing when to just keep their own council.

 

The best leaders are those that are accountable for and learn from their mistakes. The wisest of men study the no just the successes of their ancestors, but their failures and follies as well. This is how wisdom is developed. Focus on just the successes of those that came before us, will put us on the surest road to repeating their mistakes.

Yeah walk into any r&d facility at a major weapons manufacturer and you'll see guys like that. I know that because I knew a couple guys from college that were in engineering and finance that got snapped up by companies in the D.C area the instant they graduated. They made more money in their first 5 -10 years of employment then u guys made in ur entire working lives
