When President Trump tweeted "Our military ... cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgenders in the military would entail," he was certainly on point in his expense assessment.

Allowing transgenders to serve the military is a costly experiment -- and among the reasons why Liberty Counsel Action is petitioning the President and Congress to halt the misguided practice of using the U.S. Military as a laboratory for social experimentation — Mat.

Consider these costs to taxpayers for the defense of our nation...

• The recently christened USS Gerald R. Ford cost the Navy a whopping $12.9 billion.
• The reported cost of an Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer is $3 billion.
• The estimated cost to build a Virginia Class Nuclear Submarine is $2.4 billion.
• F-35 fighter jets are in the $100 million range to build.

And ...
• The cost of providing the complete scope of healthcare services to transgenders allowed to serve in the military, as ordered last year by the Obama administration, is estimated at $1.88 Billion over 10 years, according to a recent study done by the Family Research Counsel (FRC).

+ + A very costly experiment!

A recent CNN study reported that the necessary medical procedures and hospitalization for someone to transition from one gender to another can cost between $124,000 and $141,000.

Then, the FRC added in the ongoing and collateral costs: hormone therapy, counseling, plastic surgery... and the cost to the military of time lost "by service members who are temporarily disabled or unable to be deployed due to preparation for, or recovery from, surgery and/or hormone treatments." ESTIMATED TOTAL: $1.88 BILLION

+ + How important is $1.88 Billion to U.S. military operations?

The past several years, under Obama-era budget cuts, the Defense Department has resorted to scavenger-type repairs.

As reported by Fox News, "Lack of funds has forced the Marines to go outside the normal supply chain to procure desperately needed parts. Cannibalization, or taking parts from one multi-million dollar aircraft to get other multi-million dollar aircraft airborne, has become the norm.

To get one Hornet flying again, Marines at Beaufort stripped a landing gear door off a mothballed museum jet. The door, found on the World War II-era USS Yorktown, was last manufactured over a decade ago."

President Trump has vowed to retract the Obama administration's misguided policy. Now, he is facing serious backlash from pro-LGBTQ activists and badly skewed Left-leaning media reports.

+ + A crushing burden that hurts the military.

Last year, former President Obama forced the unpopular and challenging policy into the ranks of our military.

In response, a Military Times/Institute for Veterans and Military Families poll found that "57 percent of active-duty military personnel expressed a negative opinion of the decision to allow transgender troops to serve openly. More than half of that groups said the policy change had a very negative effect on military morale. Roughly 41 percent thought it would hurt the units," as reported by the Navy Times.
