Kosar_For_President
Among other things in the article this one is astonishing. I am just blown away. I LOVE LA "The governor's cutbacks could include ending the state's main welfare program for the poor, eliminating health coverage for about 1.5 million poor children, halting cash grants for about 77,000 college students, shortening the school year by seven days, laying off thousands of state workers and teachers, slashing money for state parks and releasing thousands of prisoners before their sentences are finished." Now would this same thing happen to other states if they have not received aid from Obama. Maybe?

Mr. T
No! but you have to agree that it is very taxing on the state government.

Kosar_For_President
California's problems are pretty unique to California. I am not so sure about this. I mean your probably right here knowing that CA already got a handout and wants more. But I would think there are more states out there like this, no? But I would think there are more states out there like this, no? The closest state in terms of volume verses revenue that comes to mind is New Jersey. They take in huge sums of money on tolls everywhere, highest property taxes in the country, highest auto insurance premiums, and taxes from the casinos in atlantic city and yet they are always crying broke. If their is any state in the country that should be in the black its New Jersey. Ohio might be poor as shit, but things are pretty cheap here at least compared to NC, VA and CO. The state is always broke from supporting all the people who are broke from paying tolls, high property tax and insurance rates, then losing money in the casinos. Kind of like the U.S.S.R. was always broke.
heckofajobbrownie
Steve, sure it has some effect. Illegal immigration also has a lot of benefits, mostly in the form of lower priced goods and services. Californians pay out in services for illegals, and also use them to save millions on child care, construction, landscaping, restaurants, etc. You can't only note the costs of something. It's like screaming your head off about all the money the Browns pay Brady Quinn and Braylon Edwards without noting that they also play football for them on Sundays and fill the seats with fans. Anyone who says California has a budget problem because it's got a lot of illegals earning freebies doesn't understand much about California's budget problems. More likely, they just don't like illegal immigrants. I'd point you to the disaster that is the California ballot initiative process before I'd start worrying about illegals. So much of the state budget can't be touched because here we let citizens/interest groups decide much of it, not elected representatives. It's insane. Then you'd probably want to know about Prop 13. ballpeen
Well Peen since you want to go down that road you may as well throw in they have a democrat governor and the last governor was also a democrat and a homo to boot! LOL....hadn't kept track. To be honest, i don't really care what New Jersey does...been there once before and don't anticipate ever going again. it's like the old joke... Why do New Yorkers have such negative attitude?? New Jersey is the light at the end of the tunnel.
