Actually, Ned Beatty got a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his singular speech that he made in "Network". Singular in that he was only in that one single scene. In fact, I believe I heard that Beatty's speech was more or less the model on which Baldwin's "Coffee is for Closers" speech was based.
