Our nation, what have we become?

Obama’s speech is representative of an increasing social inertia, moving the U.S. from a Christian nation to an anti-Christian nation.

We have crossed the line. This is accurate in our current condition of America.

But Obama thinks this is a good thing, if you listen to his whole speech.

America was founded as a Christian nation. The writings of the founding fathers proves their intent.

John Quincy Adams (6th President of the United States)

“The greatest glory of the American Revolution was this: It connected in one indissoluble bond, the principles

of civil government with the principles of Christianity.”

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.

They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice.

They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.

Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

- Paul

If the nation was founded as a christian nation, the founders would have made it an official religion of the US. But they didn't. The nation was founded as a nation where everyone was free to practice their own religion and the government was a secular one. There you go treading on people again, spreading false information all along the way.

the Treaty of Tripoli was unanimously passed by Congress and signed by John Adams, 2nd US president. Article 11:

As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

And Mr. Adams signing statement:

Now be it known, That I John Adams, President of the United States of America, having seen and considered the said Treaty do, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, accept, ratify, and confirm the same, and every clause and article thereof. And to the End that the said Treaty may be observed, and performed with good Faith on the part of the United States, I have ordered the premises to be made public; And I do hereby enjoin and require all persons bearing office civil or military within the United States, and all other citizens or inhabitants thereof, faithfully to observe and fulfill the said Treaty and every clause and article thereof.

Also, think of it this way: If the members of the First Continental Congress were all bible-thumping christians, would these "God-fearing" men have ever declared independance?

"For rebellion as is the sin of witchcraft." 1 Samuel, 15:23

Would they have started a rebellion if they thought it was equal to witchcraft (punishable by death)?

The New Testament also gives clear instructions to Christians on how to behave when ruled under a monarchy:

1 Peter 2:13: "For the Lord's sake accept the authority of every human institution, whether of the emperor as supreme, or of governors, as sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to praise those who do right."

Romans 13:1: "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities; for there is no authority except from God, and those authorities that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resist authority resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment."

Let's all be glad that the founders were not bible-thumping morons or the American Revolution would not have happened.

Patrick Henry was a devout chrisitan who railed against the Constitution because it did not provide christianity as an official religion. Some of his speeches to the Virginia assembly lasted four hours. But, as you can see, the Constitution was passed without making christianity the official religion. That is how the founders, along with the ratifying assemblies of each of the 13 colonies wanted it to be.

What the reference point is the fact America is taking the same path in history as Rome did.

And as far as tyranny, didn't Jesus tell them (apoatles) to sell their cloak and buy a sword if they didn't have one.

Our nation is a Christian nation
BY FRANK BARRON

Guest column

With all due respect to the opinions of President Obama on April 6 in Turkey and a letter writer recently in our newspaper, I must disagree with their opinion that our nation is not a Christian nation. The very fact that they can make this statement, without reprisal, is just one of many proofs that they are mistaken.

In non-Christian countries such as Iran, Saudi Arabia, China, North Korea and others, such comments against the primary religion of the country could be devastating. But because our country is truly a Christian nation, such comments are granted in our freedom of religion and right of free speech by the Constitution and its amendments so wisely God-inspired by our founding fathers. These principles that formed the basis of our independence, our Constitution, our political and judicial systems were all based on Christian ideals. In fact, the very first act of our Congress when they first assembled was to have a Christian minister lead them in prayer and read four chapters from the Holy Bible. These Christian principles certainly birthed this nation and have sustained us throughout our history.

Additionally, one need only to look at our coins and currency, our Constitution, our Declaration of Independence and even our laws to see the influence of Christian principles in our everyday life in America. Even though outlawed in our schools, the Ten Commandments are prominent throughout our Supreme Court Building and formed the basic principles of all of our laws. A recent poll by MSNBC showed that 88 percent of the people polled nationally did not want "In God We Trust" removed from our currency. Furthermore, another recent poll showed that 86 percent of Americans are either church members or believe in God.

As so often happens now, a minority is trying to control the majority. This should not and cannot happen. Those of us who believe in the same God of our forefathers must stand up and speak out.

One might ask, if God is God, why does He allow this? The answer lies in God's plan of free will. God does not need us. We need Him. It is not about us, it is about Him. As Christians, our purpose in life should be to glorify God. Only by our believing in Him, asking for redemption and living for Him daily do we truly glorify God.

Right or wrong, President Obama, the letter writer and millions of others are free to choose their own will. Only in a free Christian nation could they do this.

I thank President Obama and the letter writer for their opinions and for our Christian nation for allowing them to have their opinions. For without them, I would not see as clearly today that we have a lot to be thankful for by living in a Christian nation founded so wisely by our Christian forefathers more than 200 years ago.

For what is white without black? And what is black without white? Contrast is what makes things more vivid and stand out. If this newspaper were all white or all black, it would be worthless. Fortunately, we live in a world that God made that has all the colors of the rainbow visible everyday. Likewise, our country is made up of all types of people, opinions and religions. That does not mean we are not a Christian nation.

As Ronald Reagan said, "When we become a nation that is not under God, then we will become a nation that is going under." For the good of all of us as Americans and the world in general, let each of us pray daily that we remain a Christian nation far into the future.

You make it sound as if that was the reason for the fall of Rome.

one more time, here we go.

So is this what is being taught in the schools now, that Rome fell because of christianity?

We were taught that it was due to barbarians,

Economic factors are cited as a major cause of the Fall of Rome. Some of the major factors, like inflation, are discussed elsewhere. But there were also lesser problems with the economy of Rome that combined together to escalate financial stress.

These include:

Poor management,

The dole (bread and circuses), and

Hoarding

.

There are many factors that are blamed for the Fall of Rome. On this page, the factors considered are

Decay,

Vandals, (barbarians) and

Religion, including Christianity.

I tend to believe that the Roman Empire fell as a direct result of immorality among its citizenry.
