2019 NCAA PRESEASON TOP 25 FOOTBALL RANKINGS

From B/R,.

While the Associated Press will unveil its initial Top 25 ranking on Aug. 19, the Amway Coaches Poll is usually announced on the first Thursday of the month.

Clemson is the national champion, but Alabama has stood atop the coaches poll for three straight years. Though the powerhouse programs are expected to open at first and second nationally, which team will claim the top spot in 2019?

As always, consider the preseason polls an "initial expectation" list. They hardly mean anything by October, but they shape perception of many programs for the upcoming season.

Amway Poll Prediction......only 4 BIG TEN?

1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Ohio State
4. Georgia
5. Oklahoma
6. LSU
7. Michigan
8. Texas
9. Florida
10. Notre Dame

ATTN: WOODY the guys at VI like your Wolverines.

Big 10 Conference Winner Best Bet:

Michigan to win Big 10 (+250)

There are definitely multiple ways to go in terms of Big 10 futures, and after almost settling on/including Michigan State at +1000 odds for this play, it's their hated rivals the Wolverines that should be able to claim their first Big 10 title in 14 years.

HC Jim Harbaugh is continually ripped for his khakis, his coaching methods, and his under-performing teams, but 2019 could be the year he's able to get one over on all his detractors as his team's got a great shot at going the distance in this conference. For one, he keeps his starting QB Shea Patterson for another go-around, and the continuity he's got there is something he's really wished to have for the past few years.

Secondly, thre isn't one of those dastardly rivalry games on the road for Michigan to trip up on this season, as yes, they go to Wisconsin (you already know those thoughts), but they host Iowa, Michigan State, and Ohio State. They've got road dates against Illinois, Maryland, and Indiana, which all could be potential 'flat' spots in terms of ATS wagers – especially that Indiana game sandwiched between Michigan State and Ohio State – but those should still end up in outright victories regardless.

With Harbaugh's club currently laying double digits in those home games against Iowa and Michigan State, and laying -3.5 in their season finale with the Buckeyes, the bounces from the schedule side of things have already gone the Wolverines way. Should they be able to get a little luck on the field for once, and not fall victim to their own hype in a no-show game or two, this football team ends up going to the Big 10 Championship game and blowing the doors off whomever ends up coming out of the West.

Harbaugh has given up the reigns to our offense to a young, up and coming offensive coordinator. We'll actually have tempo and throw the ball. We'll also be starting 3 NFL WRs and our best OL in forever. If everything can come together on offense we should look much better there.

Of course we have holes to fill on the defense in the meantime. Interior DL is a concern. We're light on depth at other spots.

Maybe outside of Penn State Michigan has a nice H/A schedule. It just happens that way sometimes.

Sure thing Mr. "Every #1 draft pick is always going to be an OSU player....". Or your documented thoughts on universities...

I don't think anyone here could have a more biased opinion on something Michigan or OSU related than you.

No it's shitty because we go from a terrible away schedule one year to a great home schedule the next.

It would be much better if it was evened out

It remains to be seen how the BUCKEYES do in the post Tressel/Urban recruitment, administration and coaching era.

It is a huge job to keep these perennial top 5 juggernauts going year after year.....it will be interesting.

Actually the secret there is to win a few tough road games then a program can start on a roll year after year.

No it would be better if it was level loaded.

It also screws with how good season tickets are year to year and things like that

We'll see.

I see OSU dropped the texts and emails from the Zach Smith scandal on a Friday afternoon. Smart. 90% of them are redacted though. Doesn't tell us much..

Kind of true a balanced schedule would be nice -but- with two divisions and having to play within them it can restrict things.  Face it one side is loaded compared to the other one.

One little tidbit I ran across and the BIG TEN always did travel and spend well. Plenty of bowl invites!

Starting in the 2014–15 season, a new slate of bowl game selections will include several new bowl games.[63]

Pick Name Location Opposing
Conference
Opposing Pick
1 Rose Bowl* Pasadena, California Pac-12 1
2/3/4 or 2 Citrus Bowl or Orange Bowl^ Orlando, Florida or Miami Gardens, Florida SEC or ACC 2 or 1
2/3/4 Outback Bowl Tampa, Florida SEC 4/5/6/7
2/3/4 Holiday Bowl[64] San Diego Pac-12 3
5/6/7 Music City Bowl or Gator Bowl[65] Nashville, Tennessee or Jacksonville, Florida SEC 4/5/6/7
5/6/7 Redbox Bowl[66] Santa Clara, California Pac-12 4
5/6/7 Pinstripe Bowl[67] New York City ACC 3/4/5/6
8/9 Quick Lane Bowl[68] Detroit ACC 7/8/9
8/9 Heart of Dallas Bowl or Armed Forces Bowl[64] Dallas or Fort Worth, Texas C–USA

* If the conference champion is picked for the College Football Playoff in years the Rose Bowl does not host a semifinal, the next highest ranked team in the committee rankings, or runner up, shall take its place at the Rose Bowl.

^ The Big Ten, along with the SEC, will be eligible to face the ACC representative in the Orange Bowl at least three out of the eight seasons that it does not host a semifinal for the Playoff over a 12-year span. Notre Dame will be chosen the other two years if eligible.

† The Big Ten and ACC will switch between the Music City and Gator bowls on alternating years.

‡ The Big Ten and Big 12 will switch between the Heart of Dallas and Armed Forces bowls on alternating years.

Sure.... But I'm just talking about home and away games within one schedule. Nothing about the conference as a whole.

The 14 team 2 division setup does factor into the process but Michigan would not have such an issue with the schedule if they could win a few key games on the road especially at the OHIO STATE BUCKEYES.

Oh here's another interesting tidbit......but the B10 media generally can't pick squat.

Preseason media polls

The Big Ten Media Days concluded with its annual preseason media polls in early August. Since 1992, the credentialed media has gotten the preseason champion correct just five times. Only eight times has the preseason pick even made it to the Big Ten title game. Below are the results of the media poll with total points received next to each school and first-place votes in parentheses. For the 2019 poll, Michigan was voted as the favorite to win both the East Division and the Big Ten Championship Game.[17]

East
Predicted finish Team Votes (1st place)
1 Michigan 222 (20)
2 Ohio State 214 (14)
3 Michigan State 156
4 Penn State 154
5 Indiana 86.5 <----- having IND, MY, RUT makes it a 4 team race
6 Maryland 82.5
7 Rutgers 37
West
Predicted finish Team Votes (1st place)
1 Nebraska 198 (14)
2 Iowa 194.5 (14)
3 Wisconsin 172.5 (4)
4 Northwestern 142.5 (1)
5 Purdue 110.5
6 Minnesota 100 (1)
