If anyone in the household gets sick they have to live in there while the rest of us do their med purchase, laundry, cooking and dish retrieval. My son and grandson are here now both on 3 week "layoffs" from their respective schools and maybe more depending on the status of the virus in our area. His wife is with us now, but since she works in a medical setting she is considering going to her sister's house because her sister also works medical and their children are both age 6 or under. My son is the designated grocery shopper though I have enough rice & dried beans to last 2-3 months and enough in the freezers for even longer. Water is not a problem so people can go jump in the shower if we run out of TP. Lots of Dial soap to clean their bottoms off. I have two brothers who live in the area, one of whom has HF/COPD and horrible knees, the other one lives close by. Most folks are stocked up just in case anything like this ever happened. But now it has. We should all be grateful it isn't a lot worse. Many, if not most, of the deaths occurring are ending up being attributed to "complications due to pneumonia". There is a pneumonia vaccine... got mine a few months ago. Did not even know one existed. As with most vaccines it may not prevent an occurrence, but it should at minimum reduce severity and that can make a difference. The Sun City old folks here keep the shelves empty and the stores now are "gate guarding" how many at a time are in the store. Once they hit the quota it's one in and one out. And they still haven't a square to spare. It's insane that this vulnerable group is so scared that they are stockpiling, but stand on top of each other in lines to stockpile. WSS I have my son and his family with us, so for us it does make a difference if we isolate someone who shows any symptom or tests positive. DIL works in a medical rehab center. She may move over to her sister's temporarily who works as a nurse. Son teaches and grandson is 6th grade, but both are on extended spring break and may not even go back this year. Granted by the time anyone comes up positive the cows may already be out of the barn, but if we have that room, no harm in using it to isolate. My wife is considering moving in with our daughter & family who are all at home since she writes novels and her husband works remotely for a gaming company in Austin. Grandkids on extended spring break as well. I told her I'm staying with the cats who would go into shock if I wasn't there to follow around all day. That's what Ragdolls do. I'm more worried about her getting sick than I am. Mentioned I was well stocked on TP before the panic hit, we're good to the end of May at least. That's one item that's still disappearing off the shelves as fast as it's stocked. I don't get it, that and bread. Saw a psychologist explanation of the hoarding. Seems it makes people feel that they're "in control ", even when they're really not. This virus isn't going to stop me from going out if I need to. I've always done the majority of the grocery shopping (a little victory yesterday, finally scored some tomato soup for the wife) and the stores have wised up- limit of two on the big hoarding items. I'm sure you know I have a lifetime+ supply of wine in the basement. I'll plead guilty on hoarding that. Sad thing was I even had a little trepidation (calling ahead to see if it was still on) for a viewing\funeral service for one of my long time former coworkers yesterday. Our old St. E's hospital gang is like family, even though the place has been shut down for 20 years, we still keep in touch. Most of the folks decided to not come, and I limited myself to a 15 minute chat with one of my lab friends, and a brief so sorry about Dale talk with his wife. I've been meaning to call my Ophthalmologist, but... Finally called today and this was the last day the office was going to be open for two weeks. My vial would last maybe a month, so if that was it I'd be OK, but if they closed longer... So if you have Rx's that need renewing, don't delay getting them renewed... ... and if you have others for which refills are available, you might think about putting in for a refill now.
