Let us analyze what we do know about not only our Browns but also the Packers. Packers News: >> BJ Raji is a no show for the recent training camps and is contract is still not signed and sealed. Do not expect to see him versus the Browns. >> Injury list include DE Justin Harrell (back), C-G Duke Preston, P Durant Brooks was withheld because of a tight right hip flexor, basically the same injury that troubled him 2007 and '08, WR Patrick Williams (hamstring), WR Ruvell Martin (groin), RB DeShawn Wynn (knee), DE Johnny Jolly (ankle), LB Clay Matthews (hamstring), LB Jeremy Thompson (stingers) and CB Pat Lee (back). ODDS AND ENDS • It appears DE Michael Montgomery will start the exhibition opener on the left side Saturday night against Cleveland. B.J. Raji is unsigned and Jolly and Harrell are hurt. • For the first time a portion of team drills was dedicated to working against opponents' schemes. The offense ran plays against the Browns' 3-4 scheme and the Bears' 4-3 scheme. McCarthy pointed out that the four regular-season opponents before the bye employ the 4-3. • A strange sight is watching old press-man specialist Al Harris lined up seven to eight yards off receivers. Still, almost nobody is beating him deep. James Jones and rookie Kole Heckendorf, the graceful free agent from Mosinee, tried it late Tuesday night but didn't have any luck. • Strength coach Dave Redding, in his 31st year of football, says the number of injuries in this camp is average to slightly below average. "Nothing to panic about," he said. "It’s wear and tear. It’s never going to change. It’s the nature of the beast. Just training-camp mode." • Johnson doesn't always block the right man and has made his share of mistakes. Still, some of the best hits in camp have been his. On Tuesday, he pancaked DE Ronald Talley on an inside running play. Later, he ran right over the top of FB John Kuhn in a punt-block drill. • Brian Brohm goes back and forth wearing a glove on his passing hand. It was off Tuesday night. In any event, he remains a clear-cut No. 3 behind Rodgers and Matt Flynn. • As a group, the wide receivers have dropped precious few balls. Some people will discount a win for a few reasons and others will be optimistic over a loss. I will read into how the rooks play, not so much the vets. I'm curious to how many penalties will be called, indicating a 'cohesive unit'. Wimbley needs to light it up for Mangini to really start looking like Mangenious. What do you got? What do you got? wanna know my prediction? a VERY vanilla and boring game that does nothing to showcase what kind of team you're gonna be in the upcoming year. But he wasn't all that positive about our receiving corps: The Browns' young receivers have been inconsistent. They've all taken turns flashing for a day or so, but nobody has been able to keep it going thus far. Second-round pick Brian Robiskie started camp strong, but has since faded a bit. Fellow second-round pick Mohamed Massaquoi has made some highlight reel catches, and then dropped easy passes, as I saw him do Tuesday. Another young receiver, Lance Leggett, caught a 51-yard touchdown pass from Quinn on a go route in the scrimmage on Sunday, but the 2008 practice-squad member later botched a catch that resulted in an interception. Just an informed guess, but if I had to pick a receiver who had the best shot to line up opposite Braylon Edwards in Week 1 against Minnesota, it'd be Massaquoi, with plenty of time left for Robiskie to still make a move into the starting lineup. It'd be interesting to know what the coaching staff thinks about Robiskie and Massaqoui. Obviously, the competition has gone differently than some of us expected, but it's unclear whether that's because MoMass has been exceptional or Robiskie's been a bit underwhelming.
