FY56
NFL considering it. Too many injuries. https://twitter.com/NFL_DovKleiman/status/1621924293977186311/photo/1 This guy gets his leg busted.
calfoxwc
unlike the horse-collar tackle, this is one that won't be easy to ban, I think. Too many tackles around the waist can turn into that tackle shown above. Maybe more likely, a lightweight high-strength brace to protect the knee laterall, required for rb's, te's, wr's, qb. But that is serious stress on the knee for sure. Similar to how Joe Theisman's knee injury happened.

ballpeen
Maybe it should simply be that you can't tackle a player from behind. If we keep outlawing various tackle types, there won't be any left. Plus, that gives Refs one more way to rig the game. I say cut the number of refs on the field to 3. 1
FY56
What are you supposed to do when the guy is much bigger than you? Jump on their back and wait for help? Put flags on them and call it a day.
SdBacker80
No we shouldn’t modify the rules for a play that causes a handful of injuries each year. Tackling is atrocious enough and football is an inherently rough game we don’t need a rule that the refs can misinterpret and just throw their nonsense into another area of the game.
FY56
Leave the hip drop be. Ban hip hop at SB halftime shows instead. 1
