~   The continuing moves by the. Cleveland  GUARDIANS  staff & FO  in the 2023  ▪︎--> 2024 seasons.

It should be interesting to see what happens with the end of this 2023 season.

●~~~~~~~~~~▪︎.         ▪︎~~~~~~~~~~●        MOVED TO HERE |--->

Well,  CLEVELAND  (AP)  Amed Rosario .... was never viewed as Cleveland's long-term shortstop - more of a temporary fix.   A lot of these moves centered around   Amed Rosario  (read on).

●~~~~~~~~~~●

On Wednesday, he became a former one.

Eager to give young  inffielders  Tyler Freeman  and Gabriel Arias more playing time,    ★  the Guardians traded Rosario to the Los Angeles Dodgers for   ● pitcher  Noah Syndergaard  and nearly $1.9 million in a deal that addresses major needs for both of the  contending clubs.

●  Rosario came to Cleveland from the New York Mets in the blockbuster deal for Francisco Lindor a few years back. And while he has been a reliable player and leader for the defending AL Central champions, the Guardians felt it was time to turn to their future.

Rosario started slowly at the plate this season, but is batting .265 with six triples, three homers and 40 RBIs. However, his defense has been lacking - he's ranked among baseball's worst shortstops in several categories - and the Guardians feel it's better to see what Freeman and Arias can do.

“We felt that this made sense for us and now is the right time to give Gabby and Tyler some more opportunities,” said Chris Antonetti, Cleveland's president of baseball operations. “We also wanted to be respectful to Amed. We recognize his place on our team and as a veteran leader and his expectations of himself and transitioning him to a lesser role would had an impact on him and the team and we were very mindful about doing that.”

Rosario, who is eligible for  free agency this winter, has been the subject of trade speculation for months, and Wednesday he sat out Cleveland's 8-3 win over Kansas City. Arias started at shortstop and had two hits.

★   The Dodgers are sending Cleveland  $1,873,118 as part of the trade, in effect equalizing the salaries. Syndergaard is owed $4,682,795 from his $13 million salary and Rosario is owed $2,809,677 from his $7.8 million deal.

The move shores up the Dodgers' current issues at shortstop.

All-Star  Mookie Betts   has played some short, but he's the team’s primary right fielder. The Dodgers found themselves in need after Gavin Lux went down with a season-ending knee injury in spring training and Miguel Rojas has struggled offensively at the spot.

●   On Tuesday, the NL West-leading Dodgers acquired utilityman Kike Hernández  from the Boston Red Sox.

“I know he’s a heck of a ball. player,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said before the deal was finalized. "I do know that I like him as a ballplayer.”

●  Cleveland, which trails first-place Minnesota by two games,   needed to add     a pitcher with (3) starters  Shane Bieber, Triston McKenzie and Cal Quantrill all dealing with injuries.

The 30-year-old Syndergaard should be able to eat up some innings for Cleveland - if he's healthy. He's been on the injured list with a blister on his right index finger since early June and pitching in rehab games for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Antonetti said Syndergaard is ready to join Cleveland's rotation. The right-hander will join the Guardians in Chicago on Thursday for the opener of a four-game series, but it's not clear when he'll make his debut.

★  Earning the nickname “Thor” with a devastating fastball and long, blond hair, Syndergaard was once one of the game's rising pitching stars. However, injuries have sidetracked his career. He signed a one-year deal with the Dodgers before the season and posted a 7.16 ERA in 12 starts before getting hurt.

The Guardians have been leaning on (3) rookies Tanner Bibee, Gavin Williams and Logan Allen and the club needs to closely monitor their workloads down the stretch. They're hoping Syndergaad can help.

Antonetti said the club will recall outfielder.  Oscar Gonzalez  from Triple-A Columbus to fill Rosario's roster spot. Gonzalez, who was a postseason star for Cleveland in 2022, was sent to the minors after batting .192 in 25 games. EOM.

Amed Rosario Surprised He Was Traded To Dodgers By Guardians

Amed Rosario was about to board a plane with the Cleveland Guardians before finding out he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers. --> continued  ---    >TOMMY WILD     2 HOURS AGO

Amed Rosario sat in the home dugout at Dodger Stadium for the first time in Dodger Blue. He had been traded to Los Angeles just two days ago and still getting acclimated to his new club.

However, this new setting was never something that Rosario had in his plans for the season.

The infielder revealed during one of his first interviews with Dodger media that he found out he was being traded just before the Cleveland Guardians' team jet was set to take off to Chicago. Rosario admitted that he was surprised he was being traded.

It's fair to feel that way considering what Rosario was a part of during his tenure in Cleveland. At his best, Amed held a great contact bat and hit 278/.314/.397 during his time with the Guardians. He's also been praised by Terry Francona and his teammates for his leadership and for setting the tone with his hustle.

But 2023 has been a different story.

Rosario's bat has been what it was in the last two seasons and his defense become a real liability for the Guardians. Cleveland also needs to see what Gabriel Arias and Tyler Freeman can do at shortstop.

Another reason why Rosario may be surprised is because of how the Dodgers plan to use him. Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts said the team will play him at second base and center field the majority of the time with a little bit of shortstop sprinkled in there too.

Rosario has played 15 games in center field during his career and has never played at second.

Even though Rosario may not have saw this trade coming, it appears it will be the best for both teams in the long run. Cleveland frees up playing time for their young players and the Dodgers get a veteran bat who can mash lefties. --> continued -->

This Is Why The Guardians Waited So Long To Trade Amed Rosario

Chris Antonetti explains why the Cleveland Guardians held onto Amed Rosario for so long.

Gabriel Arias and Tyler Freeman are currently with the Big League club. Brayan Rocchio is raking at Triple-A. Jose Tena, Juan Brito, and Angel Martinez are making a name for themselves at Double-A with the Rubber Ducks.

All of those players are middle infielders who were being blocked by Amed Rosario who's manned shortstop for the last two and a half years.

There's no denying that Rosario had his positive moments with the Guardians. He hit .278/.314/.397 during his tenure and was continuously a reliable bat in the hot summer months. However, Rosario became a defensive liability and his bat was streaky at best in 2023.

What's Next For Guardians Following Amed Rosario Trade?

The Cleveland Guardians will need to address their roster after trading Amed Rosario to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Amed Rosario has been a staple of the Cleveland Guardians lineup for the last two and a half seasons. He was at times inconsistent at the plate, but still hit .278/.314/.397 during his tenure with Cleveland.

Now the veteran heads out to Los Angeles as the Dodgers send RHP Noah Syndergaard back to Cleveland to kick start the trade deadline.

These are the moves that will follow after the ....... ?????

Gabriel Arias And Tyler Freeman

Trading Rosario accomplished a major goal for the Guardians. That was opening up playing time for Gabriel Arias and Tyler Freeman at shortstop. Both young infielders have been blocked by Amed.Arias has played 11 games at short this season and Freeman has made just four games there. It appears the time will be split evenly, but those numbers are about to skyrocket.

Noah Syndergaard To Meet Up With Team

Noah Syndergaard was on a rehab assignment before being traded to Cleveland. He was scheduled to make a start on Thursday, but that can no longer happen for obvious reason

Instead, Thor will travel to Chicago to meet up with the team and where he will throw a bullpen session. The organization will determine what to do with Syndergaard following this.

Antonetti did say that starting him on Friday (which is looking like it'll be another bullpen game) is not currently on the table.

Oscar Gonzalez Recalled From Triple-A

Trading Rosario and not adding Syndergaard to the roster immediately leaves an open spot. This will be filled by Oscar Gonzalez. Yes, Spongebob himself will be back with the Big League club!    Gonzalez was sent down to the minors after a rough start to the season where he only got 14 hits in 73 at-bats. However, he's played well with the Columbus Clippers this season slashing .275/.316/.473 which included a game where he hit for the cycle.

Looking ahead to 2024's position players...

I feel like these positions can be written in ink:

Firstbase: Josh Naylor

Secondbase: Andres Gimenez

Shortstop: ?

Thirdbase: Jose Ramirez

Left Field: Steven Kwan

Center Field: ?

Right Field: ?

Catcher: Bo Naylor

Designated Hitter: ?

Shortstop is still in the air, with Rocchio, Arias and Freeman in a three-rookie fight. My prediction is Rocchio wins this battle, Freeman becomes the utility infielder, Arias gets traded in the offseason. (I could see Freeman getting traded too, since Arias has shown the ability to play OF). For center field, I just can't see a team so power-deficient trotting out Myles Straw again. He is possibly the best defensive centerfielder the team has had since Grady Sizemore, or possibly Kenny Lofton. His bat is non-existent. Right Field has been a mixture of young guys like Oscar Gonzalez (and his inability to not swing at everything), Will Brennan (a nice player, but kind of a fringey player who might be best as a #4 OF). George Valera is a top prospect and a possible RF of the future.

I could see some trades this offseason, possibly including one of the young shortstops and Shane Bieber, but Bieb's trade value is probably low at this point. The team needs an infusion of power. Kyle Manzardo is a future 1b/DH to pair with Josh Naylor, unfortunately he is out right now, so he's going to need a decent stretch at AAA before being a viable option.  A short-term veteran pick up in free agency to allow Manzardo and/or Valera time to mature in Columbus.

? Manager ?  ★ Tito Francona as long as his body and everything else hold up.   Best in the business.

Firstbase: Josh Naylor  check,  need his bat WHEN HEALTHY !

Secondbase: Andres Gimenez. check  [ truthfully shows how much we liked and miss Robbie A + my #1 guy OMAR VIZQUEL ! ]

Shortstop: ?  Jose ??  Trading Rosario accomplished a major goal for the Guardians. That was opening up playing time for Gabriel Arias and Tyler Freeman at shortstop. ......  should solve that problem for years, see who evolves as #1 and #2 + a utility infielder

Thirdbase: Jose Ramirez.  ★★★  check for years

Left Field: Steven Kwan  Gold Glove !

Center Field: ? here  Straw has the glove + arm maybe his lugger that can also play RF and maybe:

Catcher: Bo Naylor. good enough for now,  glove first, would be nice for a slugging catcher

Designated Hitter: ?  Josh / Jose / ??  unless they find a designated SLUGGER HERE !

[ NOTE :  Good write-up and analysis on the Guardians below. ]

★★  One of these Cleveland INDIANS/ GUARDIANS  trademarks trading a good or Cy Young pitcher at their peak (the #1 commodity in MLB)for several good  young   players  and maybe an older hitter position player.   Just look back at some great old classic trades.  Some Cy Young pitchers in the mix.  Those deals kept the  INDIANS/ GUARDIANS  competitive for many years.

And the best A, AA, AAA  farm system in MLB.  For the most part centrally located in Ohio.

I think that the Guardians are positioned well to repeat in 2023 (despite pitching injuries)  and do well for years due to the BEST FO in MLB.

Just saw the highlights of Game 1 of the Rangers vs Rays playoff series.

Tampa Bay had a little over 19k fans.

That's embarrassing.

I just watched the Minnesota  Twins  3-1 win  highlights.   Great defense and one player hits two home runs .... that's it.  Kind of reminded me of the Cleveland GUARDIANS  style of small ball.   But that's it, Twins win.

Potential 2024 firstbasemen Kyle Manzardo, who the Guardians acquired from Tampa Bay for Aaron Civale this summer, off to hot start in Arizona Fall League.

And as I write this the Phillies knock off the Atlanta Braves, the team most considered the favorite to win the World Series.
