pl4tinum
They just said on the pre-game show on ESPN that 5 Browns players have filed a grievance against Mangini with the league over this whole water bottle fine incident. Talk about a f--ked up team.
Vegasdogg
It was a dumb, stupid fine. Unless this team has had a history of this kind of thing (stealing, not paying for things, ect..) it smells like a power trip. Everyone who stays at hotel, no matter if the team pays the room fee or not, has to put down a CC for incidentals. This would fall into that category. He is not making many new friends. I mean come the fook on - $1700.00 for a bottle of water? Have the guy pay it and move on. Mangini is losing me more and more each time he is "in the news." TheClevelandSound
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4508545 Last week, Cleveland Browns head coach Eric Mangini addressed fining one of his players $1,701 for not paying the hotel bill for a $3 bottle of water. Now, some of Mangini's players are addressing the fines in their own way. To protest Mangini's fines against players, two grievances already have been filed with the NFL Players Association, said a league source, and three more are in the process of being filed now on behalf of Browns players. All together, at least five grievances will be filed within the next 24-48 hours, and one NFLPA source predicted more could be coming. Mangini has fined players for such offenses as not paying their hotel bills, players parking in the wrong spots, and having their cell phones go off in meetings. Mangini is trying to deploy structure and discipline to the Browns, just as he did in New York with the Jets, where he also encountered similar circumstances. An NFLPA source said multiple Jets filed grievances against Mangini, but Mangini has said he won each of those grievances. In the beginning of the season, Mangini passed out rules to the players of what they can and can't do and each of the fines he has imposed is for something that players were warned they couldn't do. It is why the organization believes it will prevail in their grievances and why what they are doing is necessary to get the organization operating in a proper and efficient manner. mario
good i hope the fine gets dropped. I don't care if its the NFL, unions are the only voice for employees from the exploiters. Need to file a compliant with the BBB against the hotel for charging $3 for a $1 bottle of water.

DD, it almost certainly was NOT the player's CC, it was the TEAM'S CC. That's the thing that's being overlooked here. There's NO WAY there were 80+ CCs on file for each player, coach and staff person in that hotel. So you want to say it's okay if EVERYONE takes a bottle of water without paying? $240, no biggie, right? What about $300? $500? What's your cutoff going to be? Mangini's is $3, as it should be. Look, if you are trying to create an organization and a team out of a mess, you start with the basics of accountability and respect. That's what this is. RestinPeace
My guess, this is the crux, probably pushed by ex-Savage/Crennel guys who can't take the "new environment". Mangini needs to end this now and that means getting mean and nasty. Throw them out. That also means if his own players he brought in got duped by the country clubbers. It's not who was fined, it is who is pushing for the league action. My guess it is probably Savage/Crennel era players who can't handle the "adjustment".
