I'm guessing that they missed that he was actually a Junior as well.... ...unless they were talking about Senior, who played for the 49'ers, and back then probably played both ways. Bruce Matthews, Clay's brother, was an outstanding O-lineman for the Oilers. May even be in the Hall. They usually mention Clay Jr's gene's, as grandfather played in the 50's, and his Dad and uncle (Bruce) were mainstays in the NFL in the 80-90's.
