BrownsBacker85
"Browns clean out pro personnel dept. Posted by Mike Florio on January 14, 2010 1:27 PM ET Browns coach Eric Mangini and his staff of assistants have survived the initial days of the Big Show's big show in Cleveland. Some members of the front office haven't been as lucky. Per a league source, the Browns cleaned out their pro personnel department on Thursday. Though we've yet to track down specific names of the now-former employees, potentially affected individuals include senior director of pro personnel Steve Sabo, director of pro personnel Keith O'Quinn, associate director of pro personnel Jim Jauch, and assistant director of pro personnel James Kirkland. (Surprisingly, the Browns don't have an assistant to the regional manager of pro personnel.) In NFL parlance, "pro personnel" relates to the ongoing evaluation and monitoring of players who are already in the league, and who might at some point be available via trade, waivers, or free agency." Who? Well, I'm sure Mike will get people in there to get it done!
mopaji
This implies that Heckert has his list of players and is ready to use it. And why are the Browns missing so many essential parts to an NFL franchise? It is no mystery why we have been so damn unorginized and bad for so long. lambdo
We're too busy signing Joe Andruzzi's and Willie Mcginnests to worry about that sort of stuff!
SJ_Browns
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/...tom_hecker.html BEREA, Ohio -- The shakeup in the Cleveland Browns' personnel department began with a bang today. The Plain Dealer has confirmed that General Manager Tom Heckert dismissed the entire four-man pro personnel department of Steve Sabo, Keith O'Quinn, Jim Jauch and James Kirkland. Sabo was the last remaining football employee from the shell organization established by the NFL before the expansion Browns had an owner. Sabo joined the Browns in 1998. He was senior director of the department. O'Quinn, director, was hired last season by the Eric Mangini regime. Jauch, associate director of college and pro personnel, joined the Browns as an area scout in 2004. Kirkland, assistant director, also joined the Browns in 2004. Under the new management structure put in by President Mike Holmgren, Heckert supervises both the pro and college personnel departments. Heckert no doubt will bring in his own people to both departments, but he said this week that most of the college scouts have contracts that run through May and he would conduct the 2010 draft with the current scouts. DawgTracker
We picked up some good players off other rosters this year. You would think that somebody there would be a keeper unless Mangini did a lot of it himself
ballpeen
He's just making room for McKenzie. Both of those departments will be revamped. As for the college side, right now there is nobody to hire as they run on yearly contracts for the most part(the scouts), and most of the information on paper is going to be about the same from scout to scout, so at this point it only makes sense to stick with what you have. The next few weeks are going to require a lot of bodies out in the field with all-star games, combines, and private workouts just over the horizon.
