Predicting Pro Success?

The Gipper

Recommended Posts

In my trivia thread I noted how certain top rated High School recruits had become First Round NFL draft picks. Let's look at Rivals.com's selections of the top HS recruits over the course of a few years to see how these "Blue Chippers" did when they became pros...or at least how they became drafted. I will cover the years 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 and see how they faired:

2002

Notables from the Top 100:

1. Vince Young

2. Haloti Ngata

9. Leon Washington

20. Trent Edwards

28. Devin Hester

58. Kameron Wimbley

The rest of the 2002 Top 10:

3. Lorenzo Booker FSU

4. Ben Olson

5. Reggie McNeal Tex. A&M

6. Chris Davis FSU

7. Ryan Moore Miami

10. Ciatak Faison

Can anyone tell us what happened to the above players? If they are around?

Other notables from the 2002 recruting class: 8. Marcus Vick, 12. Gerald Riggs, Jr. 37. Maurice Clarett, 40. Justin Zwick

Booker I think may have been converted to FB? Don't know if he's still on an active roster (could look it up, but not going to.) But when drafting for Fantasy Football leagues, I used to see his name all the time, but obviously never drafted him.

Faison was always like that 3rd down/3rd string back that rarely got any plays. I think a couple years ago when Detroit kept losing guys, he got some carries. Nothing fantastic.

When I saw the name Ben Olson, I immediately thought the Bears, but that's Greg Olsen (as apposed to Merlin.)

Ok, I lied... Booker is not on an active roster. Was with Miami and was active in 7 games for Miami in 2007, and 10 games for Philly in 2008.

Ciatrick Fason (not Faison) played two years for the Vikings (which is why I recalled the name living up here in the Twin Cities) in 2005 and 2006.

Is the Ben Olson you are looking at Benji Olson, a Guard who played for the Titans for 10 years?

There's Greg Olsen... He's the kick ass starting TE for the Bears right now.

Just an observation, or is it just me, but does it seem like all the Florida State and Texas A&M players really failed to live up to their top 10 status when it came to going pro?

Wasn't Rivers the really good looking young LB on the Bengals who got hurt really bad (maybe career threatening) this pre-season?

Isn't Jonathan Stewart the "2nd string" guy sharing carries with Deangelo Williams in Carolina? A buddy of mine thinks that Stewart is, hands down, the best 2nd string Running back in the league, and is better than at least 50% of the starters out there.

Ernie Sims was/ still is on Lions roster I believe. Caldwell did play for the Bengals and I believe he is still in the league playing the for the bengals. Whitney Lewis was never drafted and transferred from USC after one year I believe to Norther Iowa. Kyle Wright wasn't drafted but picked up by Vikings after draft and after that i heard he might be on 9ers but not sure. Prescott has been on ravens patriots and currently back on Ravens practice squad. Never even heard of Tony Hill. Jorrie Adams was a offensive lineman but don't remember hearing anything else about him after he went to A&M. Paul jeffries another head scratcher to me. and as other post mentioned Olsen is tight end for the Bears and playing well

Derrick Williams is where all WR go to die in Detroit. Patrick Turner I quit following because he burned the Bucks when he chose USC where they converted him to tight end. I would guess he is in the league somewhere though. Melvin Alaeze dline frommaryland after that not a clue if he is still playing. Rouse is still playing college ball after getting kicked of FSU and UTEP. He was the player that said he would be the first player taken straight from high school. Yet now 0playing for FCS school haha. Martellus is on the Dallas Cowboys. Youngblood a head scratcher. Stewart is splitting carries in Carolina

This Ben Olson would have only graduated High School in 2003, so I don't think that would be him.
