I mean, the economy is in shambles right now.  A man's gotta make a living.

Sadly, it's not that easy.  It would be very difficult for TBB to get a credential.

Why is that just out of curiosity?

I mean, this is probably as..or more  legitimate of a forum for Browns news/discussion as any number of  "media outlets"  that perhaps get credentials.  I mean,  what does say, the Chardon Gazette provide in terms of Browns new coverage that this place can't provide?

Stats like that, meme's and quotes are....  I hesitate to say 'Inaccurate".  So I'll say slanted instead.   Either way they attempt to generate hype in a way that is rather misleading. Because instead of going off the first full 3 seasons played, they're going off the first 3 seasons in the NFL period.   This discounts multiple good QB's in the the last 12-13 years alone.

Rodgers, Mahomes, Luck, and damn near Cam Newton, Matty Ice and Tony Romo.   Those are just off the top of my head.  I'm sure Russell Wilson was probably pretty close as well.

I'm not saying I'm not excited for the upcoming season and I'm glad to have Baker on this team.   But we attempt to place these players up there with historic company and thus their accomplishments to generate that hype.

Pace yourselves, friends.  The season is a grind.

Well....Baker DID hold the rookie record for most TDs in his rookie season,  until  Justin Herbert broke it this past season.   That was not a slanted or inaccurate statistic.

Perhaps a better thing to look at for a young QB is:    Which QBs led their teams to a Championship in their first   3 years in the league.  Here they are:

    Championships won in Year  One:

Otto Graham.    This applies to both his  time in the AAFC and the NFL.   He won titles in his first year in both leagues

Bob Waterfield.     Won  NFL title in his rookie year in 1945 with the Cleveland Rams

Sammy Baugh.   Won title his rookie year of 1937  with the Redskins

NO rookie won a Championship in his rookie year in the Super Bowl era

    Championships won in Year  Two:

    Sid Luckman   Bears

Kurt Warner   Rams   (though he played some years in the Arena League,  his 1999 SB victory was only his  2d year in the NFL

    Tom Brady   Pats.

    Ben Roethlisberger   Steelers

    Russell Wilson   Seahawks

    Championships in Year  Three:

    Johnny Unitas

    Joe Montana

    Patrick Mahomes

Every name above either is in or is headed into the PFHOF it would seem  (BR/Wilson/Mahomes)

Define "cleveland team media"...     Because I've used a personally witnessed example of the propaganda Nathan Zegura has to spew on a daily basis from OTA's and camp.

I would think that a certified representative of The Browns Board  could qualify as a member of the "Cleveland Media".     How would one be credentialed?   Perhaps Kathy or Z  could give you something that would qualify.

Do you.....or does anyone else  want the job?

Westside Steve could perhaps qualify.   If I am not mistaken,  he still writes movie reviews for some magazine in town.    I think he used to do so for The Scene Magazine. (but no longer).

Yup, and Kurt Cobain was another. Ditto Paul McCartney.  :)  We're about as uncommon as left handed golfers- like Phil Mickelson....  & FWIW, I tried playing golf left handed, but wound up playing righty- very poorly I might add...  I mentioned it before, Jack Nicklaus is left handed- but golfs right.

It's one of those weird things about nature, there's really no reason a person should favor one hand over the other, but 80% of the world is right handed.  PS- I played tennis left handed, and was fairly good at it.

Some are ambidextrous:     My sister  writes and eats left handed,  but she always threw a ball  right handed.    I don't know about how she batted or would play golf...never saw her do either.

One is bigger name than the other...played college ball at bigger program and was drafted in the first round compared to the third round.

    So give me a name?

For the new name for the Indians?

I would say The Supermen...since Superman was created here......but that would put too much pressure on the players on the team.

Or, since a lot of  baseball teams have bird names,  How about The Cleveland Cocks:

    7. They have some starting pitching and some big bats in the lineup.  They are the most talented IMO.  I think the Twins will make a furious comeback and sadly I see the Cleveland Spiders as the 3rd best team...way too many holes in the lineup

    10. Marlon Humphrey is the best and most important player not named Lamar Jackson on the Ravens roster and is IMO a better overall player than OBJ right now.

Whatever the new name for the team will be, it will not be The Spiders.

The other guy I considered  was Minkah Fitzpatrick.....but then I thought:  I am not sure that he is or will be better than our new safety,  John Johnson.   Will he?

  7. Here are today's Sports facts/speculations/opinions:

    1. Hockey does not get enough attention on these boards.  Probably because Cleveland has no NHL team.  A team being in Columbus doesn't resonate around here.

    2.  This Laker's team is no better at all than the Cavs teams that LeBron was on in his early days here.   They are going to get bounced out of the playoffs in round one, for the first time in LeBron's career.

    3. This is shallow, but,   Tennis player Naomi  Osaka,  who there is a lot of talk about lately.....is  not a pretty woman, at all.

    4. Titans, Seahawks and 49ers seem to have joined the  Pats/Ravens/Rams  in the  Julio Jones Derby.

    5. If the Tits get Jones, they could be a legit  AFC contender  IMO.

    6. The Celtics are now bounced out of the playoffs.  Overall, that is good.  Fuck them.    The upcoming Bucks/Nets  playoff series on the other hand may be one of the most entertaining of the NBA playoffs.

    7. I know they are leading the  AL Central,  but  why should I be impressed with the Chicago White Sox.  I think they are almost leading the division by default.   The Tribe has downgraded this year due to offseason moves, so the WS may take this division by default, but, again, I am not impressed by them.  I hope, obviously that the Indians overtake them.

    8. Ben Roethlisberger  thinks that the Steelers are a "special team"....and that they are being  "overlooked and underrated".    Is he delusional, or is he right?  Are rumors of the Steelers demise greatly exaggerated?  I personally think.....only to a point.  They will be around a .500 team (even though team's can no longer go .500),  but they will not be a  3-14 team or anything.  Tomlin is too good of a coach

    9. Prediction.....which ballpeen will like:    Florida will take the SEC this year in football  over  East Germany  (Alabama)

    10.  Going along with a discussion had on TV:     Who are the best   5  Non-QBs in the AFC North in 2021:    My opinion:   Myles Garrett,  Nick Chubb, and OBJ will prove to be  3 of the 5.   Also,  TJ Watt of the Steelers.  ......and to be totally honest and fair:    Kicker Justin Tucker of the Ravens.      (but if not a ST player, then probably Marlon Humphrey DB Ravens)

  8. I  recently completed a trek out to Nebraska, part of South Dakota and Kansas and beyond.   I visited  2 new National Park Units I had not been to before:

Niobrara National Scenic River.   This park extends east for 75 miles out of Valentine Nebraska. It is as advertised,  a scenic waterway.  I did not go the entire way,  just made a few selective stops, including a portion of the river that runs through the Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge, and the portion that runs through Smith Falls State Park.  (Smith Falls being a very fabulous waterfall the way it tumbles).  The best way to probably experience this park would be to do a float trip:  tube/canoe/kayak/raft.  We did not do that, being early May none of the  outfitters were running yet. This river, at least in May was very fast moving...you really would not even have to paddle to move swiftly downriver.

Minuteman Missile National Historic site.   This park  is in South Dakota, and has a few sites along I-90  between the entrance to the Badlands and Wall SD. And the concept of it may be the scariest of all National Park Units.  What you see is a silo in which sits a deactivated thermonuclear Intercontinental Ballistic Missile.  Oish!!  At the one site we visited you can look down into the silo from above and see the missile sitting there.  There was another spot we could not make it to that gave tours of the missile facility. We could not do that because the tours were sold out, but the other place had a nice audio tour you could access with your cell phone.

Other NP Units that I revisited on this trip going and coming included:

Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, West Branch Iowa

    Badlands National Park, South Dakota

Agate Fossil Beds National Monument,   Harrison Nebraska

Lincoln Home National Historic Site.   Springfield, Illinois

My personal count is I have  now vistited  386 of the 423 NP Units.

Next up:  Pullman National Historic Site in Chicago.

Better yet, just banish them all to your neighborhood.

Though I think you must have banished yourself from the rest of the forums here.  Haven't seen you on the Browns Board for forever.

I don't think we have had any real problems out of Haslam in so far as the team and location.  He has invested a lot of his money in to the team and community. Any problems with ownership are the standard crap you can find with nearly any team if you are a fan of the team and follow the team.  He and his wife bought a home in Bratanahl and live there pretty much full time.

I don't think being born in the same city as the team is any kind of prerequisite that makes them good or not.  I don't think any Browns owner was born in Cleveland.

I am pretty sure Randy Lerner was....Shaker Hts.  In law school when I lived on Shaker Square  I actually didn't live too far away from his Dad's house.  Of course, despite being at most a mile away, it was also a world away, if you get my drift.    But you make a certain point there.  Despite being a native, he was clearly a disinterested owner.

As usual when the English soccer season ends I take some time away from sports gambling. I am currently in the States up in New Jersey and just got back from a weekend in Boston watching sports and now looking to head somewhere else in the States at the end of this week.

Looking for somewhere where the weather is pleasant but not crazy hot as I’m a pale Northern European! Where food and beer prices are reasonable (unlike Boston 😆) and I can get a reasonably priced flight and accommodation. I’m single and in my late 30s so a decent bar scene of an evening is required.

Vegas is a no for now as I’ll probably have that weekend as a blowout towards end of the month as opposed to now. I looked at Myrtle Beach flights are pretty reasonable but all and any advice will be much appreciated.

As you may or may not  know, I am the king of this sort of thing.  In fact, I could probably even help you out with a reasonably priced place to stay (condo style).  If you would PM me,  I can provide you with more details.   First.....give me some parameters.  Do you need a beach absolutely?  Or not.   Do you want close to a major city?   How long do you want to stay?  What are the precise dates you want to go?   How many in your party.  How far from New Jersey do you want to travel? Or how close.   Are you willing to fly or do you want to drive?   How "upscale" do you want the place you would stay to be?  For what I am talking about,  this time of year is a bit tougher, as many units  are taken after Memorial Day.

  12. Caught this on Facebook.  Thought it interesting:

May be an image of text

Dune would take place over 20,000 years in the future.

Planet of the Apes take place like  what would be about  2700 AD.

The  time of the Morlocks in The Time Machine takes place like  800,000 years in the future.

I know 2 people who got ripped off on a timeshare. That’s good enough for me to stay away

They may not have gotten ripped off at all.   They too were probably stupid and had no fucking clue what they were doing with their timeshare.    And you know how human nature is:   when you fuck up....you look for someone else to blame for your fuckup.

I have been making successful use of my timeshare for like 26 years running now.   It is true that it is not just as simplistic as booking a hotel room. A certain amount of strategy is necessary to get proper use out of it.  They probably simply "failed to read the instructions".   It is as basic as that.

runner on second to start the 10th really blows too..

    Both gimmicky bullshit.

There was nothing wrong with the number of innings there were in a game....or how many extra innings were played.  The problem was always with the pitchers and hitters dicking, dicking around out there, taking like 2 minutes to pitch and hit the next ball thrown.

The rule that a pitcher must face three batters is not so bad.  That was what also slowed things down......constant pitching changes.  A new pitcher for like  4 batters in a row?

  15. Here will be a new feature that I am going to start:    a recitation of various sports facts...and speculations on things, and my opinions, if you think you can handle those.:

    1. Re the talk by Mahomes wanting to go 20-0,   the last QB to  win 20 consecutive regular season games (not playoffs)  was  NOT Tom Brady,  but was Peyton Manning  in the 08-09 seasons.

    2.  Related to the above:   The Chiefs are going to have a hard time holding off the Los Angeles Chargers  from winning  the AFC West, who will seriously challenge them.

    3.   Aaron Rodgers and Julio Jones  will attempt to "team up"   NBA player style,   to go to the same team.   That team could be the Packers, but not necessarily.

    4.  If the above does not happen,  then Jones, I believe will go to one of 3 teams:    Rams,  Ravens,  Patriots.    Let's hope it is not the Ratfuckers

    5.  Whatever the situation with Rodgers....stay or go from GB,  team up with Julio Jones or not,   his team will NOT  reach the NFL version of the Final Four as he has the last two years.  (now watch him win it all!!)

    6.  Per CBS Sports  the team that is supposed to have  "The Most Improved Defense" is:    The Cleveland Browns

    7.  I  do not believe that DeShaun Watson will play for the Texans this year.   In fact, because of his sexual assault charges (civil...not criminal) , he may actually not play at all.   Nevertheless, due to those charges and his speculative future,  his trade value is highly, highly diminished IMO.   Talk of Houston getting like 3 first round picks  is a pipe dream.  They may be lucky to get one first round pick.

    8. Not that I have any love whatsoever for for the Boston Celtics,  but Kyrie Irving's actions in stomping on the team logo  was completely Bush league.  But I think that is pretty much what Kyrie has become in his career,   a bush league player, notwithstanding his incredible talent.

    9.  Some people....even those my age or over,   claim that Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom, because of his current like 0.50  ERA is the best pitcher they have ever seen.  But I personally would not trade ShaneTiny Canadian Pussy Douche straight up for him.

    10.  LeBron James is the best player to ever set foot on a basketball court.   But it has been proven that a single great player cannot win a title all by himself.   If the Lakers were to win the title this year (which I do not think will happen)....he WILL basically have to do it all by himself.   In my opinion  Anthony Davis is just not as good or as reliable a #2 man, this year at least,  to assist in leading that team to a title. He is not Scottie Pippin, or Duane Wade, or Kevin McHale,  or any number of the great  #2s in playoff history.
