  1. just wait until the patrick mahomes contract...
  2. I disagree. A good head coach gets wins. Look what Flores in Miami did this year. That team traded away EVERYBODY that was decent at football and they still won 5 games. Hue needs to accept responsibility.
  3. A couple of things to address: 1) To say the Browns are "punting" on this draft is MKC type of speech. Pure speculation. That is ridiculous and something that makes no sense. This team is in "win now mode" not re-building. Haslam said as much. In addition, there is a reason that Wolf, Hightower and the rest of the scouts were retained. The browns liked what they did last year and they need them for the draft. It wouldn't surprise me if they are let go afterwards, because that is how scouts and GM stuff goes, but there is no way they are going to "Punt" on this draft. Finally, it doesn't matter who the browns hire for a GM as far as when. Don't you think that ANY OF THESE GUYS have already been doing extensive research with their previous teams? They have all that knowledge in their own notes and databases. It's the same way that lombardi brought his "Browns scouting book" with him when he got canned and then hired by the Patriots right before the draft. These guys are professionals and they know, their jobs now and the future all depend on the draft. 2) I like the fact the Browns are not just hiring the "name" OC/DC guys. Weren't Monken and Wilks those same guys last year? They were the choice of the organization, not the HC. Clearly that didn't work. Stefanski wants guys whom he can work with and have complete trust in. I have a feeling the Browns won't have their coaching staff until after the SB. Woods and and one of LaFleur or McDaniels comes to the Browns. If it is indeed those guys, a lot of them work together in the offseason so I think the transition would be pretty seamless. I don't think Stefanski wants to call plays next year. He want's a guy who is going to come in and handle the offense, in his vision. 3.) I'm perfectly fine with no Wade Phillips. His defense was awful last year. It has the name players but it was statistically one of the worst ranked defenses in the league. Not to mention he is significantly older, meaning they are going to have to replace him within the next few years. I could be wrong, but didn't he come out of retirement to take over the Rams job? I don't think the Rams letting his contract expire was an accident. 4.)Woods is in his last year or going into a contract year, so I believe that is why he is allowed out or able to negotiate with other teams. I still don't fully understand the rules. The coaches hiring rules are stupid at best. Especially the ones where everyone knows they are going to hire someone from the SB coaches but they can't say it. It's almost as dumb as the NBA draft. 5.) I do find it peculiar that Patton still has not accepted an invitation to be interviewed for the GM job. I wonder if the vikings are doing some behind the scenes work. This seems like a great move for him, unless he is nervous about the power structure. I would assume that Stefanski would be able to alleviate those concerns but no idea. For all of those who say that this Berry's job to lose, I would assume if that were true than he would have been named GM by now.
  4. I read an article by Ian Rappaport on NFL.com that Mike McDaniel and Mike LaFleur are of interest to be the new OC's. However, in the article it says that the 49er's could block the move. I'm curious because I thought as long as it is not a lateral position a team can not block a hire? In this case LaFleur is the passing game coordinator and McDaniel the run game. Neither call plays. If it is a pay bump and title promotion, i was always under the impression it was good to go. In the same article, it talks how Woods would be allowed to go because he is in his last year of his contract. How does that work?
  5. I think in an ideal world, the Browns would probably want a hierarchy something along the lines of: President of Football Operations: Berry GM: Patton Assistant GM: Wolf and Hightower HC: Stefanski This would put the team in "alignment" from top down. I'm not sure how good Berry is at drafting players, he is highly respected in the community so I would assume he has a pretty good idea. But I think where he really makes his money is in the organizational structure and contracts. Although, I'm not sure if the Browns would be able to hire him away from Phily for this type of position. In addition, this would allow Patton, Wolf and Hightower to focus on the players and draft. There would have to be a VP of Professional and a VP of college scouting somewhere in there which I would assume would remain Setta, Kova, Mainley, etc.
  6. As long as the money was fake (for the college kids sake), I don't care. Let him have fun. If this was the Bosa boys, nobody would care. It's who he is. Not everyone in the world has the same type of personality and having the low key personality doesn't necessarily win championships. This is a big whatever, guys having fun story to me. It's his money. Oh and let's not forget, OBJ still had 74 receptions for over 1000 yards with a Sports Hernia and a moron head coach the entire year. It wasn't OBJ levels of good but He competed.
  7. I think we are going to start seeing a trend from here on out. Guys get huge generational money on their second deal (especially if they were top 10 picks initially) and they are going to walk away from the game. They have no more reason to keep putting their body through it. I'm betting the next one we see walk away early is Carson Wentz. I think the NFL behind closed doors is terrified. This is starting to create as Depo would say, "a trend line". The NFL can't afford the negativity that comes along with guys leaving the game early considering the numbers of youth football have dropped off pretty significantly over the last few years.
  8. I enjoyed Stefanski's comments about all the personalities..He said, "I don't mind personalities. Because I respect guys that work. Personalities are great. Your production is required." He just put everyone on blast and especially Baker. Basically, "Baker, I expect you to work your ass off." Let's see/hope he is able to follow through with it. IMOP, even though OBJ and Landry are big personalities, I think they have proven they definitely put in the work. Now that we now about their injuries, it makes a lot more sense as to why they weren't practicing as much.
  9. I completely disagree. He is basically saying, "you guys want to make fun of my way of doing things but you keep going against my suggestions and are failing miserably! Maybe if you listened, we wouldn't be in this position." I think if you had no idea where his background comes from, I don't think there would be this much back lash. Depo doesn't do anything that every major company in america does...it utilizes tools to maximize performance. That's all he is trying to say that his "analytics" is doing.
  10. I love how when he was pressed about how things are different this time around, he said, "I don't want to talk about the other two hires." He basically was saying, "that moron refused to listen to what I had to say and this is why we are here now."
  11. I'm not saying stefanski is the right or wrong guy. I'm pretty numb to the whole situation. But I think Jimmy may have gotten the memo... -Depo has now wanted to make 2 hires (McDermott and Stefanski) and was overridden on both by Haslam and his crew..epic fail -His "analytics" team when Hue was the coach was not as much of an absolute failure as we may have perceived. Sashi told EVERYONE he was burning it to the ground multiple times and rebuilding with cap space and draft picks. Exactly what he did. Baby Huey was a terrible coach and didn't understand the concepts of how analytics worked. Dorsey was the right guy for talent evaluation to bring in but Sashi gave him a gold mine. -Dorsey utilized everything that the "analtyics team" had built to acquire more talent (which is what he was supposed to do) but instead of evolving and utilizing modern techniques he went old school with Freddie and it fell apart. Neither were on-board for learning new things and examining how the league was changing and adapting to last years tapes. I find it interesting that Dorsey has now been fired twice by organizations for basically being difficult to work with and not being on the same page as the rest of the organization. He's a hell of an evaluator of talent but I'm not sure he knows how to put a "team" of players together -Baltimore and Phily are known to have an analytics person on a headset during the game giving advice to Harbaugh and Pederson...this is not something new or innovative -Finally, for the first time, the entire organization is going to be on the same page. Stefanski is basically picking his GM (Probably the guy from the Vikings), they embrace modern ideas and Haslam wants to see organization in unison -I think McDaniels wanted scorched earth with the entire organization and Haslam got scared. He's done this so many times that he can't afford (maybe literally-over $150 million in dead money) to get such a major thing wrong. Also interesting is to see what the contract is that they give Stefanski. McDaniels agents are the same guys who got Rhule is $70 million deal.
  12. This is the problem with the twitterverse and modern age journalism though. Everyone is so quick to get the "hot" story, they don't fact check anymore. Even worse, there are zero repercussions for presenting misinformation.
  13. The guy who started the rumor admitted it...and has the text to prove it. https://www.complex.com/sports/2020/01/cleveland-browns-head-coach-fake-story
  14. Once again, not saying I'm on the McDaniels train, but why does everyone just assume he wants to be the GM as well? He tried that in Denver and it ended horribly but he was also, I believe, the youngest head coach in the league by many years. It's been over 10 years since he was the head coach of Denver. He's only 43 years old. I think and would certainly hope that he has learned from his mistakes in Denver and now knows how to fix them. I think this is why it is so important to get a GM that aligns with his values on players are and why the Browns are hiring this person second. McDaniels can't shoulder all the responsibility. Plus, he's been through a few other organizations at this point and has a better understanding of the league. I would rather hire McDaniels of now then the McDaniels of 10 years ago. The Browns now have their pick between Stefanski and McDaniels. It will be fascinating to see what happens. I don't have much of an opinion because who the hell knows now a days. Also, for what it is worth, DePodesta's contract runs out at the end of the week.
  15. How do you think it would have gone over in Dallas if you replace a guy who can't win a playoff game in 10 years with a guy who can't win a playoff game in 15 years?
  16. I disagree with you on this one. I think he is a legit candidate. THIS year may not be his year (although I think he goes to Carolina) but within the next 2 years, he will be the head coach somewhere. Especially if the KC offense keeps doing it what it does best. Plus, part of the "idea" of the rooney rule is to at least get interviews, learn the process, and become more prepared. When it was initially installed minorities were not even given these chances. I still think the rule itself needs to be adjusted and adapted to the changing times, but the overall "concept" of the rule is a good idea. Now, Marvin Lewis with the Cowboys...that was a direct exploitation of the Rooney Rule.
  17. No. My prediction sure to go wrong..McDaniels is the Browns coach, Bienemy is the carolina coach, and Matt Rhule is in NY
  18. Haslam said they were focusing on people currently with NFL experience, but that statement is easily walked back especially if they I hire Riley. I think what they really want is someone who has a leader mentality and can run an organization. To my knowledge, Lincoln Riley does not have any NFL experience but he does have Baker experience. Ignoring the perceived bias about him being Baker's coach, Riley has taken Oklahoma to greater heights than what Stoops did over his last few years. That program has become top 5. Grant it, he has to learn how to win the big game and what a defense looks like, but he can coach...especially qb's in that system. I'm not saying he is my pick, I'm just saying the Browns need a leader who the players respect. Will they respect Daboll or Stefanski? Saleh and roman? McDaniels can at least point to his 6 rings. Will they respect him after what he did in Denver? I can't answer any of those questions but I guess we will find out within the next week or so.
  19. I'm a hard pass on Tua unless he craters into the second or third round...He's one who has to prove it to me. I have never seen what the analysts say are great. He doesn't hold a candle to Lawarence. Who BTW, if he wins the national championship again this year, how amazing would it be if he was like, "No, I'm good. I don't need to play CFB next year. You have seen my tape. I'll see you guys at the draft." If I was his parent, that's exactly what I would make him do.
  20. At this point, I don't know who is the best candidate but if McCarthy is hired, then that means most of that staff is going away. Kris Richard was supposed to be a hot HC candidate last year but his defense with Marineli this year was average at best. However, he is a no-nonsense coach that players really like to play for. Maybe pair him up with McDaniels as the HC? Let's be honest, it's either McDaniels or Stefanski, right? I would be shocked if Saleh or even Roman gets the job. Stefanski's offense looked pretty craptastic yesterday and Roman only succeeds when he has an ultra mobile qb. I don't know. Who cares as long as they can freaking win football games. Any chance old Lincoln has gotten a phone call?
  21. I said it awhile back, but I'll mention his name again. Keep an eye on Andrew Berry. Depo and the Haslams loved him and the biggest reason he left was because of Dorsey. He's young, smart as hell and knows this organization inside and out. Plus, Haslam said he would be coming from "outside" the organization. Berry currently works for the eagles. Haslam saying the GM would have final say over the 53 is the only way they can legally pull him away. https://www.bleedinggreennation.com/2019/12/31/21044761/nfl-rumors-browns-john-dorsey-general-manager-andrew-berry-eagles-paul-depodesta-news-jimmy-haslam
  22. Please no Urban Meyer. I just can't deal with him anymore as a coach. Too many headaches (both physically and metaphorically).
  23. I disagree with this statement. The injury Tua suffered is absolutely no joke. I'm an athletic trainer and I work with orthopedic surgeons on a daily basis. Every single one of them have said they wouldn't touch him if they were in charge of the medicals for their team. This injury is serious not just if he gets cleared early. It's the next 5 years. They essentially had to rebuild his acetabular socket with plates and screws. People may say he will recover just fine, but I will have to see it to believe it. IMOP, he's overrated anyway, but that is just my opinion before he got hurt.
  24. I'm going to put my opinion out there. Please NO to Urban Meyer. That's a bad idea just waiting to happen. I'm very skeptical about Josh McDaniels. I would have loved to have brought in Rivera and kept the rest of the staff in tact, however, that does not seem like it is going to happen this time. This team needs a leader and someone who will hold them responsible. I'm not sure McDaniels can do that. I think front office people like him more than players and other coaches around the league. McCarthy would be interesting but I'm nervous he is going to come in and clean house. Does a college coach count? Is it Lincoln Riley or bust? I wonder how that would go over in the locker room. Rhule? The browns had Matt Campbell of ISU really high on their list last year. Can any of them come in and build a culture of winning? One bit I keep reading about is the increased role of Depodesta and how his power may grow within the front office. I'm curious to see how this will play out. I know part of the reason Adam Berry left and went to Philadelphia (I hear he is in the running for the Jacksonville GM job) is because Dorsey completely skewed the interview process to Freddie. He was not thrilled about that and jumped went Philly offered. I wonder if Dorsey is going to be much more handcuffed this time around. Honestly, I hope so. His flaws which were his downfall in KC, maybe showing here in Cleveland. Great talent evaluator but does not know how to build a "team", hard to work with, keeps everything to himself, his way or the highway type ...Could all just be speculating but he does need to be held accountable for this year.
  25. Has anyone heard from Dorsey about the trade deadline deals? i would be curious as to what his reasoning was for shipping out two of his picks from last year so soon. Especially, Avery whom had a good rookie season. It surprises me that even he would give up that quickly.
