Can everyone take a moment and understand that we don’t have to move Baker at this moment?

A starting QB may go down between now and camp or during camp.

A team may miss out on these “C” level QBs in the draft and decide to roll with a Baker Mayfield type.

Don’t deal out of a state of panic.  I’m confident Princeton and UPenn and every other Ivy in the building understands this.

the bengals ended up with a first rounder from oakland for palmer  just saying

The last thing anyone in the NFL wanted to have happen is for fully guaranteed contracts.

While every pro league does this, the NFL has been able to continue to not for 40 years after MLB instituted free agency.

Then the Browns go and do this.

at one point it was un heard of when cousins got all that guaranteed money then came mahomes contract that was some crazy shit and now this Fuck it  A new normal as i said before ?  yup i think so

Nah, Bill doesn't make stupid mistakes.  Baker's trade value is now hovering in the sack of seeds range.

Nope, no roster bonus... We can't afford his $18 million guaranteed dead cap hit and stay under the cap. Ask yourself in all honesty... Right now would you rather have Baker, or Landry & Clowney with the same amount of money. I thought so.  :)

Hey BB, welcome back, long time no see... It's being tossed around... it could get to the point the Browns might have to give up a draft pick in an Osweiler scenario just to get Baker's contract off the books...

think i mentioned all of this  but now its looking more and more they were gonna have to go the brock osweiller route sucks for us

I'd be thrilled with a third rounder at this point. (And to be honest, that was the highest I realistically thought they could get for him)

damn ahahha I'll be happy with a 2024 7th rounder if it takes his money off the books because honestly  the only team we could hope for  a  trade for is Seattle unless carolina can get rid of darnold and his 18.8 million 5th year option they will not take on Bakers contract, were screwed boys

Man, if the Browns only get a 6th or 7th round pick for our former starting QB of 3 years that was a #1 overall pick, then that would silence just about anyone in regards to his perceived football skill set.

I do see us getting a much, much higher draft pick(s) than that.

    but from who ?

    I hate the trade.

I'm very disappointed in giving up the picks and paying a guy who didn't want to play in CLE; paying him so much that he became willing to play where he didn't want to play.

The Steelers would never pay $100's of millions to a serial sexual predator QB, but all jokes aside, this is a terrible trade.  At least Baker wanted to play for CLE.  When it comes time to flush Baker down the toilet, nobody is gonna wanna pick up his $19M contract because when a starter leaves CLE he becomes a backup.

First CLE committed to the 5th year option with Baker, then decided to replace him with a guy who didn't play for a year and may be facing a suspension.

I watched HOU @ PIT and was genuinely unimpressed. Watson had zero rushing attempts and was sacked 4 times.  Expect the same when it CLE - PIT.

His record against the division is terrible.

so i take it that you are not going to get a watson jersey

I've needed some clarity all week 🤓

How does a trade for Mayfield work for the Browns’ salary cap?

As it stands right now, a trade would be almost perfect for Cleveland. There would be no dead money, and they would not owe Mayfield another penny on his contract. The problem is that shifting over $18 million in salary could affect the price teams are willing to pay. However, if they

1.) can find a team looking for a QB, the equation shifts back to the Browns. As a salary dump, $18 million is a lot. However, that is an incredible value for a starting QB, even if just for one year.

2.) The Browns could potentially sweeten the deal. They could pay Mayfield a lump sum as a signing bonus prior to the trade. That would reduce the cap number being taken on by the team trading for Mayfield, potentially increasing the price they are willing to pay. However, the acquiring team could plan to sign Mayfield to an immediate extension or restructure the deal to add void years, essentially doing the same thing.

3.) Brock Osweiller route and kick in a draft pick just to get his money off the books

well since other teams are getting different q.b's it is looking like #2 or #3  or just flat out cut him

It's almost like no one is really that interested in Baker Mayfield.

And with Indianapolis off the market, and their penchant for making stupid trades and giving away high picks to do it, that was the Browns chance to get something of value for him. There's speculation the Browns might have to just release him.

Doesn't the rest of the NFL know that the only thing holding him back was the Browns drafting a WR for him?

this part i am not sure about is baker due any kind of roster bonus ? and if not could we just keep him on the team and gamble that another teams qb gets hurt in training  camp or the pre season ?

First, I've never disrespected your opinions in here good or bad.  I already said to D Bone just a few posts up - I used bad judgment calling him Deshlong. EDIT: I've loved the Browns all my life; but at 58 years of age - there's not as many next years left if this goes bad.

Second, could it be some teams are so desperate for a starting QB that 1 team is now willing to give up multiple draft picks (inclusive of 3 1st round picks) and a guaranteed salary of 230 million $ for a guy that could have a lengthy suspension?    QB is an important enough position to make teams overpay and/or overcommit trade exchange for every year.  Anyway, the year before Baker was injured, he threw 26 TD passes to just 8 INTs in helping the Browns go 11-5 plus beating Pittsburgh 48-37 in the 1st round of the playoffs.  Some teams don't just research the worst season a guy has had and make it the rule. They're more thorough than that.

No drugs required - Indy gave up a 1st round pick for Wentz last year.   Washington just gave up 2 second round picks for the same guy this year.  Why can't we get something like that for Baker?  Baker is not that different except Baker WON a playoff game he started in right?

If you don't think a lot of people that have had a family member or close friend sexually assaulted (seeing Watson getting rewarded with a guaranteed 230 million $ contract) aren't going to be contacting the NFL Commish's Office - what kind of drugs are you taking?   Have you thought about how this team can compete in a division with that kind of guaranteed cap hit without 1st round picks in a division that sent 3 teams to the playoffs in 2020 and 2 teams in 2021 if the God complex of Roger suspends him for a long time?

I sorta allways get a little pissed about board members calling are players disparaging names One that pissed me off was gerbal peppers I have always backed are players (ya even johnny stupid face even tho i knew i was just bullshitting myself) and for baker there is seattle and carolina  seem to be in the market for a starting qb so maybe a 6th or 7th round pick or just  a flat out release (which would suck cause we would still be on the hook for some monnies )

Regardless of the baggage no man is worth what we had to give up. With his guaranteed salary he has no need to perform. And the team has bankrupted itself for the next 5 years.

If it doesn't culminate in a Super Bowl victory it's the worst deal in the history of the NFL. If it does it's a break even.

    WSS

i look at it as the new normal for a top q.b steve

Never thought this would happen.  Roger Goodfella could still stomp all over this because, after all, it still is ONLY the Cleveland Browns.  If it was Pittsburgh he'd probably be really lenient on punishment/suspension; but it's Cleveland so would it surprise you if Roger suspended Deshlong 8-10 games?

We better hope Baker gets us back a 1st or 2nd round pick somewhere.

first off why are you calling are new q.b deshlong for ? if you dont like it then just leave

second what kind of drugs are you taking to think we could get a 1st or 2nd for mayfield at best a 3rd more than likely a 4th just to get his money off the books

Hello all ....hope everyone is well, I have been gone for nearly a year ....wont go into details but I  my sister passed away and it screwed me up a bit .... but I am doing better now.

According to reports the Browns have interest in  Clowney, Akiem Hicks, Will Fuller and either a return for Juice or Cole Beasley in the slot and another TE..... they were also in the hunt for Robert Woods.

sorry about your sister bro I know it would devastate me if mine passed on

I doubt the Browns would give up a pick just to clear Baker's salary off the books...  Mayfield still has some value as a starting QB... What other teams value that to be is still TBD.  :)

    i hope you are right

Amazing how that works the rich do indeed get richer.....players want to go to a winners IF they have the opportunity.

I was reading a long article on NFL news the other day and not ONE mention of the BROWNS  not even Mayfield,   how about that  !

but you did see the odd's after the trade went from +4000 to +1600 to go to the super bowl and are also the odd's on favorite to win the North
