Stanton's arm is weak... and that's being kind. His Vet "guile" may let him eek out a win or two, but if Baker is out for any extended time Gilbert is the man to ride, IMO.... more upside.

That said I think both make the final roster... Baker loves Stanton in the QB room... that's where his real value is. While Gilbert has shown too much potential to cut or risk placing on the PS... where he'd last about a minute. Keep grooming him and come 2020 he might fetch a nice draft pick in a trade.

I never really understood the "mentor" backup QB thing. Just make up a position for him on the coaching staff and save the roster spot. Gilbert is out playing Stanton so far and if that's the case he should be the backup. Better, cheaper, more potential.

  2. Takitaki looks like a great special team guy that could develop into a decen rotational player. High mmeffort guy that will always push the guy in front of him. Wilson needs a little development but giving how pass driven the nfl is now I would think he should start sooner rather than later. Kirksey should be sweating bullets

Some good points made.  That said, we're only 2 weeks into Training Camp so we didn't see some starters with big expectations.  Some of the errors came via lack of communication and inexperience.

I don't remember who criticized your evaluation but it looks like you bet on a good horse (Moreland) in round 7.  I'm intrigued with our 7th round rookie CB Donnie Lewis Jr.  When our 1st 4 corners are Ward, Williams, Mitchell and Carrie though - it's not too hard to trust the feller bringing in the CBs here.  And how about that 5th round LBer that gave us 2 INTs and a TD?

Im not going to pretend I was all over Moreland, but I thought he was a good value pick late. I was critical of the Takitaki and Redwine picks and some people got butt hurt. With how the draft played out I actually gave it a pretty good grade because if you swapped where Wilson and Takitaki were picked it looks good. I'm still not a huge fan of the Redwine pick because I thought there were better players available. (Dionte Thompson, Rodney Anderson, DeMarcus Christmas, and Jimmy Moreland) It was a mid round pick so I get gambling on athleticism.

With that said I am really worried about the safety position. I think Randall is solid, Morgan is ok, but there is nothing behind them. Whitehead looked bad we have to find an upgrade.

  4. With Beckham, Landry, Higgins he is battling for one of the last spots in the reciever room. With so many young players playing well I say package him with some picks and try and get trent William's. They need help at the position and I doubt they will get anything as good as a young promising receiver and a mid round pick

Yes, Wilson and Greedy look very promising. Especially Greedy...kid stepped up against the 1's and made an edge tackle on the RB...textbook tackle for a small DB, wrapped up the shins. Browns obviously made sure he understood what happened to Ward last year. As for the DE depth, who were you not happy with? Smith looked excellent against the 1's and Chad Thomas actually looks like "potential" starter material. Dude held his edge stout and his pass rushing moves...oh my goodness. He has this inside slap ala Reggie White...i'd like to see if it works against starters.

I was disappointed we didn't get to see Genard or Vernon at all. Im very optimistic tho about our D line depth. Smith and Thomas look like a lock to me....I wonder how Genard is going to be designated on the final roster..as DE or LB'er. But we seem to the kind of defensive depth that says "super bowl" if that depth is managed right. It would have been nice to pick up 3rd main DT...but Laurence and Coley flashed tonight so who knows. Taki and Wilson....I mean.....yeah it's early but fuck those kids are making some plays. I just hope we can keep all these guys.

About Wilson....if I was Wilks I would bring him in a lot as a 3rd LB'er cause of his range. I know Wilks likes the 2 lb'er set but get that kid on the field if we're playing a team with like a huge athletic TE.

We already know what we have in Smith, a decent rotation guy. Thomas is very raw/inconsistent so I would not be comfortable with him forced into snaps. We should be able to find some roster casualties before the season starts.

funny you mention this.  I've been watching White and noting plays for about 4 hours or so today...     I went through Auburn, Miami and Bama with a fine tooth comb.    And I'm really cooling on White as a pick.

The talent jumps off the screen, but White is slow to react. Could develop but I would rather not risk a high draft pick on a developmental player. I've been banging the drum for those 3 for a while now and I absolutely love Pratt

So how the fuck are we going to fill that ILB spot? There goes White and Bush for sure.

Pratt, Hodge, and Watson are just as good if not better than the Devins. Hopefully Simmons falls due to injury to us in the 2nd and we land one of those 3 in the 3rd

First and foremost, look into kitchens use or 3 RB sets and wing T. Considering Duke and hunts ability to catch the ball, having a stable of versatile backs allows for an immense amount of offensive creativity. Baker spreads the ball around anyway, so if Duke values stats over winning, he can go.

Depth isn't a bad thing. In this case, hunts getting some type of suspension. 4...6...8 games ... Who knows maybe more. Under no circumstances is Duke going anywhere until there's a replacement and hunt gets on the field. Hyde hung around till they were sure Chubb was good to go. By the time hunts ready, we're in a playoff push, hunt has fresh legs, no one has any film on his usage, and dukes already gonna have an established role.

I didnt even think about the potential of a 3 rb set. Imagining Duke and Hunt running little flare routes and Chubb hammering it up the guts is damned near impossible to stop.

Why trade him? Is there some wrong with having good depth players?

Duke can't be happy with the snaps hes getting and now we bring in a Hunt to take away even more playing time. He is going to be nothing more then depth and special teams at this point. Granted hes making like 5 mil a year and hes not destroying his body.

"Careers" Is hardly the word for the first two.   They're backups that require cutting down your offense in ways that make it ineffective (at best)  at times.

Smith's time in KC showed he didn't rescue shit.  Just brought ball control and identity to the Niners at that point.

You're still essentially making the connection you wanted Lamar and Roman here because you wanted to emulate Kaep.   As the NFL showed,  it'll catch up to you while costing you your QB.

I'll be back to bump your thread when Lamar starts missing open passes from the added punishment,  has rush lanes closed on him and in general has issues being red zone effective.

Pray the Ravens don't play NE in Foxboro..

I openly admitted that I wanted Greg Roman's gimmick offense. We were coming from no offense and I know that his offense doesn't require an elite QB. I was attacking this offseason by trying to change the culture. I liked Baker and had him as our best option, but I didn't see a rookie QB turning around the browns

He's a very good halfback, and throws the ball at least as good as Jarvis Landry.

Jackson has avoided taking a kill shot- so far. :)

I've never seen him take a huge shot, hes like a greased pig. I dont think he is going to play more than 8 years but he will be a headache for us for the better part of a decade

Well done.    Now,  O/U on how long his playing career lasts.    I'll set it at 2 years.

I guess I didn't anticipate the Ravens dumbing down the offense in favor of short term gains.  But Harbaugh saved his job.

I explained that's why I loved that fit. If he went to any other team I wouldnt have been that high on him but he had Greg Roman on his side. Hes made careers for Kapernick, Tyrod, and salvaged Alex Smith. I think if schottenheimer wansnt there I think Greg Roman would have done an even better job with him

This is a tricky one. Let's try and keep it to this year.

    If he doesn't play it's a push.

If he gets 2 out of 4 on the following list I win.

Lamar will be one of the top 3 passers in this rookie class. (Adjusted for playing time)

He will win atleast half of the games he starts.

He will complete atleast 60% of his passes with a 2:1 td/int ratio.

He will take the ravens to the playoffs.

Outside of the completion percentage I nailed this. I was nervous about these predictions because I was pretty much the only one on team Jackson. I'm not so crazy after all huh?

Unfortunately Lamar won't be starting year one so we can't bet over RoTY.

So we could bet on Lamar going to the pro bowl his first full year starting.

  15. I wasn't comparing Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson as players I was talking about the effect they have on a team. Everything will revolve around Lamar when he takes over in Baltimore. He will shoulder the majority of the offense output.

Lamar has thrown more NFL passes then RG3. Baylor ran that gimmicky offense and inflated his stats. If you can compare RG3 to Lamar you can compare him to Russell Wilson, Seneca Wallace, Tyrod Taylor, or any other mobile QB. Lamars running ability over shadowed how much he developed as a passer. As a freshman I didn't think he could cut it as a passer but when I went back and watched him develop, I think he can develop into a pretty solid passer
