Zombo
Didn't we give him a nice contract in off season? Injured a lot this year .... wonder if this more performance based or an attitude thing.... Z

DanInNYC
Patterson missed around 7 weeks with an effing sprained ankle while RG3 was warming up a week after having his knee bent the wrong direction. Guy is not a team player and Skrine has stepped up and proven to be a comparable or better player with a better attitude for less money.
Harry Buffalo
no that was number 53 Robertson, rookie LB. He had a great game that game, too--since then he's been a dud. I wouldn't describe him as a dude because that was the only game that injuries from other players aloud him playing time. Fujita, Maiva, and Johnson were all injured week 1. He played a great game week one and has done well on special teams since then. You can't blame the guy for not being played when he has shown to us thus far that he can play when put in. bonedawg
Skrine seemed to play well against the skins. You know a DB is playing well when you don't hear his name, and I don't recall hearing much mention of him.

The Gipper
Also, this move may be a hint that they are truly serious about going after a CB with their first draft pick.
cribbs is the man
Also, this move may be a hint that they are truly serious about going after a CB with their first draft pick. Thats a bit of a stretch. We dont even know where we are picking and who is even declaring for the draft. They are not planning this far in advance for that. Im sure they are aware that we will eventually need another starting CB to compete though. I obviously dont know what is going on behind the scenes, but if I had to guess this decision was made by Banner for financial purposes or he was a locker room cancer or a bit of both. This is likely a sign that Heckert wont be back next year or at least will have a diminished role. I think thats unfortunate. In my very amateur opinion, I like Heckert way more than Lombardi. USFBrown
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/12/18/patterson-pocketed-6-million-for-one-years-with-browns/ Patterson pocketed $6 million for one year with Browns Posted by Mike Florio on December 18, 2012, 9:40 AM EST Former Eagles G.M. Tom Heckert saw fit to sign former Eagles cornerback Dmitri Patterson to a one-year deal in 2011, and then to a three-year deal in 2012. The fact that former Eagles president and new Browns CEO Joe Banner opted to send Patterson packing with more than $6 million in his pockets less than one year into his new contract could be the first tangible sign of a possible disconnect between Heckert and Banner. Though there’s a chance Heckert and not Banner soured on Patterson, the reality is that Banner now calls the shots. With no final decisions made regarding whether Heckert will be back in 2013, Banner at least approved the decision as to whether Patterson, who was signed through 2014, would remain with the team. And if Heckert didn’t agree with the decision to cut Patterson, it would be a sign that, even though he technically has and apparently wants to keep final say over the roster, he doesn’t actually possess those powers. Then again, even if Heckert and Banner decided together that Patterson should go, the aftermath isn’t a ringing endorsement for the decision to sign the player to a three-year deal. Per a source with knowledge of the contract, Patterson received a $3 million signing bonus in March 2012, along with a $2.95 million base salary, fully guaranteed, this season. He also earned a $100,000 workout bonus, which pushed the total cash payout for 2012 over $6 million. Patterson must clear waivers before becoming a free agent; a new team would get a two-week test drive before carrying a $4.5 million base salary in 2013.Regardless of what, if anything, the move means as to Heckert’s future, we reported over the weekend that, if Heckert is fired, the primary reason will be that Heckert and the Browns failed to do everything they could to move up from No. 4 in the draft to No. 2, which would have given the franchise its first franchise quarterback in decades — Robert Griffin III. The Gipper
I still say be careful who you believe is a "franchise QB" based on first blush. E.g. Mark Sanchez....Jets traded up to #5 overall to get him. Looked like a good decision first 2 years when Jets reached the AFC title game twice. Now....could you get a ham sandwich in trade for him? Gips
Its not surprising to me, what was really surprising is the fact the browns even signed this guy to begin with and i still feel the same way about young as well.. Shows joe banner a glimpse of where tom heckert may be at his weakest as GM..

Zombo
Yeah, it was Fort who was forced into action that day and had the ball zip just out of his grasp.
