I'm usually pretty negative...even my Mommas mashed potatoes can be lumpy at times...but i'm pretty excited about this hire, and the potential of getting EJ and Chud together...damn, this is going to be a great Year. I'm torn between letting Dawson go, but the Browns need stars of the past that kids can look up to...10 years from now i want to see Dawsons name hanging next to Grozas. He can kick for another 3-5 years...we have cap space. We need to pick up 2 great cover corners a couple of studs on D an awesome punter and EJ and hell we are stacked!!! ok, maybe one other key...a hall of fame fullback and we can say Dynasty!!!!

I don't see what one has to do with the other.

Wow, Jamarcus Russell - Ponder- Manuel. hurt, over rated. No thanks.

Browns will almost certainly go D first round- they already spent the second on Gordon.

u guys that are saying Jones, Manuel, Moore, Running Option QB are delusional! Chud can take or leave a running QB in his system. Do you think the panthers would run the option with Derek Anderson if Cam Newton went down? Come on guys! Chuds offense is predicated on TE's being heavily involved and deep passing routes. The prerequisite for a QB in his offense is to have a strong arm to make all the throws. Also, as has just been announced Turner will be our OC and last i checked he dint run the option in SD. Put the drafting a speedy QB to rest now guys!

Making the throws is key... Weeden made some throws but then he would follow those with 3-4 terrible decisions or god awful overthrows. He will be 30 this October. I don't think there is a Franchise QB in this draft, but if there is - we need to find him.

Because it worked so well for Philly and the Jets.

I don't think two shut down corners are necessarily what we 'need'. Just having enough speed and smarts to make plays... Hell, Sheldon Brown even made some plays this year. I have a feeling we will go after some more DBs in later round but I wouldn't be surprised if they take 'the best available' at #6.

Hmm, Revis went down, only shut down corner they had. Cromartie was never a shut down corner in SD,so they were fleeced when they picked him up. Laron landry had one of his best tackling seasons, but other than that a average S.

Their LB core is ok, but getting up there. average age of 30. David Harris is still pretty good.

D line, who they have?

Eagles, get what you pay for, well in this case maybe not. Funny how things work out.

If the pick is D, and Millner is there, might as well pencil it in. 2 shut down corners make the D line and LB's that much better and effective.

When your top sacker on the team finished the season with 7 and he will more than likely have to switch positions to stay on the team, alone with the fact that our second best sacker is 35 and has never and will never play OLB, your priority in the draft is going to be that great 3-4 OLB pass rush specialist. Thank god there are a few good ones available this year, even if we trade down a bit.

Ok, i'll give you that. But if you have 2 corners that can shut down. That in turn will give the Dline and lb's more time to make the plays we have been lacking....What do they call them, coverage sacks. But again this is all dependent on if they switch to the 3-4 sigh again. I'm all for the trading down, but staying in the 10-16 range and ;maybe a 2nd round pick thrown in as well. Is there anyone that will be willing to trade into that spot and add the 2nd rd. pick?

GO After Cliff Avril in FA, I would like him and Sheard on the ends.

I think it is a well known fact that it is easier to get by with less talent at DB if you have high pressuring pass rusher than to get coverage sacks with average rusher but great DBs. It doesn't matter how good your secondary is, if you can't get to the QB fast enough, a WR, TE, or RB will get open.

Lets just say that it will be a hard choice for Chud/Lombardi/Banner/Haslam/whoever to make if Dee Milliner is still there along with one or two of the top rated pass rushers like Jones/Werner/Moore etc.

That is what these guys are paid to do: make a choice and get it right.

There is no way we switch to just a 3-4 defense! Most defenses in the nfl these days are a hybrid of both anyway. If we switched to just play the 3-4 than we'd have to trade Phil Taylor as he would have no where to play with Rubin already knowing the NT position under Mangini and we're not trading Taylor. Who ever comes in to run the defense will most likely utilize all fronts and the personnel we already have much as how Chud explained it in his presser. Relax! What we do know is that this defense will not be a bend and break Jauron D. We will see lots of blitzing and attacking as Chud stated.

Honestly I think Taylor has enough athleticism to plat DE in the 3-4.

I agree with you Gipper and first round busts for pass rushers is very high not so much for CB's. I could give you guys wanting a pass rusher a huge list of bust pass rushers, Gholston & Maybin off the top of my head come to mind and i could look up 15 more if you'd like? You draft the sure fire thing in the top 15 and for me that is Milliner or Teo. We don't want a repeat of losing a Ngata to draft a Wimpley. We lost a future HOF because Savage wanted a pass rusher much like you guys!

No he doesnt, he's not nearly fast enough. He is however a prototypical NT in the 3-4 but we already have that in Rubin and we know hes good at it. Winn fits a DE in the 3-4 perfect and he played that positon at Boise. Mark my workds we're gonaa run a hybrid D. its done alot these days, Carolina runs it, Arizona runs it, Bmore runs it, Denver, NE, Jets. thats just the teams i can think of.

Right now, I think I personally would be inclined to go the route of Milliner if he were there.

Hell, with Chud...you never know, he may want to go offense, and get that big OG out of Alabama.

Wouldn't that make Ghoolie happy?

I disagree. He is about the same size as Raven's DE Haloti Ngata, they both turn out similar 40 times, and from watching Phil, he is fairly athletic. Just my opinion though.

3-4 D-linemen don't need to be fast, they need strength and need to be able to plug gaps and eat blockers. IMO Taylor, Rubin, Winn on the 3-4 front would be great; however, we are weak at LB much like when Crennel was here. We would have to make big jumps in FA to get a decent 3-4 base. Plus, if Sheard did not work out at OLB it could be a disaster, and Rucker (who is signed through '15) doesn't fit either. I guess they could pull it off, but it doesn't seem like a smart move if they make the change.

I haven't watched that much Notre Dame football- and maybe it was just a horrible game, but Teo absolutely stunk in the National Championship game. It wasn't just missing tackles that concerned me, it was constantly being out of position on pass plays, and an inability to shed blocks. Frankly, 'Bamas center, Barret Jones who will also go first round destroyed him.

Seriously, I was asking myself- "How in the hell did this guy win the Butkus award?" Plus it looks like Teo is an ILB, and that's a lot lower on the Browns priority list.

I believe we'll run whatever defense gives us the best chance to stop the offense on that particular day. Matchup a and down and distance should dictate formation and personnel. That's what I like about Chud, he understands that and isn't a stubborn asshole that sticks to his system because it worked in the past.
