DestinFunk
BROWNS LS RYAN PONTBRIAND NAMED TO AFC PRO BOWL ROSTER Pontbriand joins teammates Rogers and Thomas in Hawaii Cleveland Browns long snapper Ryan Pontbriand has been named to the 2009 AFC Pro Bowl roster as the AFC's need player, the club announced this afternoon. Pontbriand also went to last year's Pro Bowl as the AFC's need player. Pontbriand was originally a fifth-round draft choice in the 2003 NFL Draft out of Rice University and has been a steady contributor throughout his career. In 2008, he was a key member of the special teams unit that helped K Phil Dawson achieve a pair of milestones during the 2008 season. With a 27-yard field goal against Philadelphia on December 15, Dawson pushed his season total to 30 successful kicks, surpassing Matt Stover’s previous franchise mark of 29 set in 1995. Pontbriand also snapped the ball for Dawson’s longest career field goal, a 56-yard boot that proved to be the game-winner in a 29-27 win over Buffalo on Monday Night Football. He was also instrumental in helping P Dave Zastudil to his most prolific season in the pros, notching a career-best 45.5 average and 39.4 net average. "I'm honored to be selected for the AFC Pro Bowl roster for the second year in a row,” Pontbriand said. “This is the ultimate recognition of performance during the season for a position that receives so few accolades. I'm extremely excited to spend some time in Hawaii with my teammates, my wife Nicole, and my brand new daughter, Avery." Pontbriand joins Browns defensive tackle Shaun Rogers and left tackle Joe Thomas in the Feb. 8 Pro Bowl. In addition, Joshua Cribbs remains a first alternate for the Pro Bowl at two positions: return specialist and special teams utility player. Flugel
Pound for pound the best long snapper in the world. Zombo LOL! Who woulda thunk it when Butch drafted a long snapper with our 5th round pick. Just think if Dilfer, Frye, DA, Dorsey or Gradkoski could only get the same air tight spirals to their targets 8-12 yards away. Pontbriand had to do it between his legs with his head down and plenty of 270-320 pound basterds lining up over him. - Tom F.
SoCalBrownsFan
Pound for pound the best long snapper in the world. Zombo You got that right Zombo, the guy just plays excellent every week. They should create a new MVP award for long snappers and call it the Pointbrand award. Best draft choice the Browns have had in the last 10 years.

Tobalaz
Butch Davis best draft pick... True, AND the best third round pick we've ever had since coming back. Which is sad within itself....

Tobalaz
He's actually a 5th rounder. Yup, you're right, my bad. Just goes to show, a Butch 5th rounder has been better than any of Savage's or Clark's 3rd rounders.
Thaak
He's actually a 5th rounder. The original poster is still correct, sorta. Very sad that this 5th rounder is better than any 3rd rounder we've picked thus far.
