MLD Woody
I watched last Sunday's episode, I don't think it insulted religion at all. If people watched that and felt like their beliefs were being attacked then maybe they need to rethink their beliefs. All he did was state what we know so far, and he even made a point to say we don't know everything yet. The only "shot" was him saying there is only shame in acting like we have all of the answers (religion, pretty much)

The only "shot" was him saying there is only shame in acting like we have all of the answers (religion, pretty much) There were a few things where he was taking the points made by religion and deconstructed them - like the eye, for example. I can see that people might think religion/intelligent design is being attacked, but then again, if science disproves one of the arguments, I think someone somewhere has a responsibility to make it known. More importantly than proving anything scientific; controversy sells soap, and that is the goal. WSS

WSS 1) It is sad that saying we came about through evolution is "controversy" in this country 2) I don't think the goal of this science show is push controversy so it is popular. I don't even think it is on regular cable stations
LogicIsForSquares
I need to make a show like Cosmos but geared towards religious folks. They would eat it up. I wouldn't have to fact check anything because it is all in one book. Mel Gibson made a killing off of showing Jesus getting pummeled for two hours. MLD Woody
The christian god is real because it is in the bible. The bible is true because god wrote it. Two hours of that and you can make a killing

MLD Woody
Oh, I thought it was just on Nat Geo or whatever the other one was Fox =/= Fox News. Fox has family guy, the simpsons, etc. They clearly aren't there for the same purpose I really don't talk shit about Fox News that much. Sure, they do a lot of obviously biased and hilarious things, but w/e. They are no different from a lot of the "news" sources we see on here (Top Right New, Breitbart, The Blaze, etc). Also, I'd be willing to bet you say something bad about MSNBC more than I do Fox specifically.
VaporTrail
Anyone else watch episode 3? I had no idea about the bad blood between Hooke and Newton.
MLD Woody
Just watched it. Not my favorite episode because it was more of a history lesson than a science lesson. Still interesting though. I didn't know the guy behind Hooke's Law was such a dick, lol.
VaporTrail
Just caught the latest episode, and I'd recommend it to everyone who participated in our conversation about black holes, as this topic gets covered. Also, I had mentioned earlier that I wanted to see more depth about the formation of stars in the first episodes. He briefly covers that topic too. I also liked how the show contested creationists who think the universe is only 6000 years old, the way it was approached was very educational. My favorite episode of the series thus far. Westside Steve
I don't read any reviews until my own is roughed out but I can imagine... I was actually chuckling over the idea that I was going to have to put a spoiler warning on the book of Genesis... WSS
MLD Woody
Yeah.... but Emma Watson is in it, right? Is she half or more naked at any point?
Westside Steve
No not even half. And she's not aging all that well, not bad but not great. Jennifer Connelly is showing her age but still as hot as you can be wearing robes... WSS
MLD Woody
I'm not an Emma Watson fanatic like 90% of the internet, but how can she not be aging well? She's what, 23?
Westside Steve
I don't know if you are old enough to be familiar with Leave It to Beaver. But Jerry Mathers was a very cute little kid but as the series progressed any entered his teens he was kind of a dork. Her face looked a little bony to me. Like I said not horrible but... There are probably enough pictures on the net to tell. WSS

Westside Steve
So I was channel surfing and saw a good portion of an episode yesterday or the day before. Just kind of a high school levels speech about global warming and how we have to save our souls. Is that about how it goes the rest of the episodes? Is there any more? WSS
MLD Woody
I'm not sure which one you caught, but talking above a high school level of science knowledge will cut off a lot of viewers. I need to catch up a few episodes, but they never delve super deep into anything in particular. If you didn't like the specific conclusions the show was making about climate change, well its a science show and that's how the scientific community feels. Westside Steve
I just expected something deeper regardless of the conclusions they preach. I expected more of a TED talk than an after school special WSS
MLD Woody
Well, like I think Vapor said earlier, these look they are aimed to show to high school or middle school classes at some point in the future. You can find the more in depth stuff on Discovery sometimes. A lot of this show seems dedicated to the history of science, as well as high level overviews.
