THE BROWNS BOARD

Bernie out for Pre Season

I like Bernie but he's trying to play the victim on this one. I don't deny what he's saying is partly true, but the guy was pretty unprofessional in his commentary and a drinking machine off the air. That's not someone even in the pre-season you want representening your brand. Easiest decision brass has had to make in a while if you ask me,

I do wish the guy well and hope he rebounds, but this wasn't the right fit.

I wrote to them and complained. I loved Bernie Kosar's brilliant takes - he sees things

like a lot of other people don't.

More boring blabber, pc correct and meaningless, is what I expect now.

Too bad. And it was only preseason games.

Forget listening to the radio with the TV sound turned down anymore.

To both of you guys, it's just different times. When all that stuff happened last year with Bernie on the air, it's not as though it bothered me personally. I happened to be watching that live and my first thought was welp, he's likely going to see his walking papers. He pretty much forced the Browns' hand especially after the DUI. I don't live in the area so maybe he does this, but I feel like he'd be perfect for a more shock type radio podcast or something. He'd get a lot more freedom there and I'm sure people would tune in.

maybe he's doing a ben sanderson on himself.

i know if i lost everything and my daughter was doing porn i might consider doing the same thing.

but then i wouldn't be alive to watch the browns win the super bowl. i'll wait until then and make it a party no one will ever fuggin forget.

Sorry but your dead wrong...Theres nothing better they can replace him with...soon you will come to grips with that...his insight and his personality made preseason interesting..his analysis.drunk or sober was spot on...he can recognize things long before any sober person could....your just typical in the line of young kids that wants instant gratification your way...enjoy Solly Wilcock.

Firstly, for the love of God take some time to educate yourself on the various forms of "your". I know it's an internet forum but Jesus that makes you sound so uneducated.

To your point, what the hell are you even talking about? I said twice now I liked Bernie and it doesn't effect me personally at all. But I live in the real world and I'm saying it's not that hard to realize why he got canned. What does instant gratification have to do with anything? I'm geniunely confused. It's not like Bernie had a behind the scenes role in all this. A by most accounts drunk, preceived unprofessional who can hardly complete a sentence without slurring isn't going to represent your brand well no matter how much knowledge he has. I'll say it again: I wish the guy well and hopefully he can continue working in a role that's more suited for him.

Woah woah woah, look who's here...it's the grammar police! Who gives a gives a shit about the various forms of "your"?. Like you said this is an Internet forum, you should expect much worse--besides as long as one is able to convey his message to the point where others can understand him, then what does it really matter? If anything, you are making yourself look uneducated on life. If you knew anything about life, then you wouldn't care about minuscule spelling mishaps that came from one person on an Internet forum out of over 7 Billion People people in the world. Okay moving on... You say "I live in the real world"-- what the hell does that even mean? Everything and anything that contains consciousness or energy is real, so I'm pretty sure we ALL live in the real world lol. You seem to be rather egotistical my good man. Now about Bernie, he did not deserve to be canned. Yes, he slurs, but I believe he was the perfect representation of our "brand" or losing team that we have had for the past 15 years. Besides, did his slurring or drunkedness ever affect the validity of what came out of his mouth? I do not believe so. He may not be super professional but that's why he was announcing local pre-season games. This role was perfect for him and for the most-part, our fans. I think I speak for everyone when I say I'd much rather have Bernie or pretty much any other ex-Browns player announcing the preseason games over this ex-bungle, ex-squeeler , NFL pampered, pussy of a commentator Solomon Wilcots. I don't think you understand how much this is going to blow until the first browns preseason game airs. One of the main reasons I used to look forward to preseason was, because of Bernie's knowledgeable, honest, to-the-point style of announcing, that the majority of us came to love. Such a shame, I can whole-heartedly say-- this sucks..

To start we could easily have a conversation regarding what a figure of speech is, but that's not worth the time. How many times can I say something before it's actually read? I LIKE BERNIE KOSAR AND HIS COMMENTARY WAS ENJOYABLE THE FEW TIMES I LISTENED. But when you take off the Browns googles and look at this strictly from a personnel decision, it's pretty straightforward. I deal with this stuff every few months at my work and I assume you don't, but maybe. There's plenty of guys that come through my work that I'd love to grab a beer with and enjoyed talking to. But the fact of the matter was the people weren't right for the job. That doesn't mean they weren't knowledgeable or we would not have hired them in the first place. That's exactly the case with Bernie, and frankly I would have say yes to this move too. That doesn't mean he can't be a part of the organization or talk all things Browns somewhere else. I can't make these points any clearer so there's no use in arguing anymore about it.

We can agree about Wilcots though, I don't care for him at all.

I love it when this happens! A poster chastises another for incorrect spelling and then misspells himself! Ahahahah!!! Not hating on you or anything but what the hell is "Browns' googles"? Is that like a new search browser or something?

So you're some HR geek who looks at it like that. As a fan I don't give a fuck. Bring back Bernie.

And Solomon Wilcots is?

love me some Solomon Wilcots. dude's a total pro. very nuetral and unbiased coverage...no Simms or Dickdorf Browns pot shots or talking about the opponent ad nauseum. he knows the team very well. actually because he does know the team so well, at times he almost sounds as if he leans Browns if anything. he and Ian Eagle have probably called more Browns games in the past 5 years than any other sportscasters.

he's not Bernie but Solly is a phenomenal choice for a replacement imho. paired w Donovan we're in for a treat. between the two of them they have so much opponent knowledge in addition to knowing the Browns there's a great chance they'll use them for the entire broadcast on NFL replay w no switch to the opponent's local broadcast. for those of us who aren't local and will be watching the rebroadcast this is HUGE...all Browns, all preseason...

i hear your point jrb and agree Bernie made his own bed and although he has many redeemable qualities and it sucks, he has no one to blame but himself in this. i say this as i stare at his autographed helmet across the room from me. i also agree the shock jock option might be a good plan b--good suggestion.

BUT...you may have "your" down pat but if you're gonna use effect as a verb it should be affect, and you misspelled genuinely and perceived. i suck at grammar but you opened the can of worms...and if you're gonna go there...triple proofread or have a plate of it as well! just sayin... :P

Listen I loved Bernie when he as in his prime and playing. Truth is he has really slid pretty low these days. I mean really when you look at him on cam the shifty eyes, the just literal incorhence at times, he just gives you the creeps. There is no doubt he has more than a few personal demons he is wrestling. I wish him the best but this was a straight forward sensible decision.

When sponsors begin to cut back or curtail altogether the ad revenue streams due to a controversial spokesman, a business decision has to be made. Like him or not, WKYC couldn't afford to keep Bernie on the payroll in his current capacity.
