Axe Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 Wool... By Hugh Howey I read a LOT.. Best read in a while... This one should absolutely be butchered by Hollywood..
The Cysko Kid Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 The rest of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy series
gftChris Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 The rest of the hitchhikers guide you the galaxy series Good shout. Also, the wheel of time series seems set up to follow in GoT's footsteps. Might be just a little too fantasy though.
DieHardBrownsFan Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 Wool... By Hugh Howey I read a LOT.. Best read in a while... This one should absolutely be butchered by Hollywood.. Never heard of it, but looked it up. Might buy it and read it.
The Gipper Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 The Book of Lies by Brad Meltzer Agincourt by Bernard Cornwell. (other book series by Cornwell should be made into TV series). I may come up with some others.
Axe Posted August 14, 2014 Author Report Posted August 14, 2014 Never heard of it, but looked it up. Might buy it and read it. If you do (and I highly recommend you do) then you'll want to start with Wool Omnibus Edition (Wool 1 - 5) (Silo Saga) Then move to Shift Omnibus Edition (Shift 1-3) (Wool Trilogy Book 2) And finish with Dust (Wool Trilogy Book 3) My fear is that a movie gets made and is butchered a la "John Carter of Mars" :::edit::: Well look what I just found Ridley Scott ( Prometheus) acquired the film rights..
Westside Steve Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 my eyesight sucks so I am an audible member, 24 unabridged audio books a year. I listened to a sample of wool unfortunately it's read by a Valley Girl. (actually an unimpressive female narrator) WSS
DieHardBrownsFan Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 That would be irritating as hell.
Westside Steve Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 it is. I don't know what that gig pays but there are so many actors out there it seems like you should never settle for a second rate performance. WSS
Axe Posted August 14, 2014 Author Report Posted August 14, 2014 My kindle saves me.. I can set the font as large as I need
Axe Posted August 14, 2014 Author Report Posted August 14, 2014 Another excellent book that should be made into a movie
The Gipper Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 The Book of Lies is a mystery that centers on the creation of Superman and the death of Jerry Siegel's father. Some of it takes place at the Siegel house on Kimberly Ave. where Superman was "born".

miktoxic Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 kingdom come (if you like super hero graphic novels). clive barker's weaveworld was crazy.
The Gipper Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 and a tough read as I recall. WSS Not at all....as I recall. Did you read it, or was it on audiotape?
Westside Steve Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Not at all....as I recall. Did you read it, or was it on audiotape? for a great many years everything have read has been unabridged audio. I thought it was dull. WSS
The Gipper Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 for a great many years everything have read has been unabridged audio. I thought it was dull. WSS It may have fallen down a bit on some points. But I thought it did a very good job at dwelling into the motivations of the young Jerry Seigel and his reasons for creating Superman. At a young age he had lost his dad who was a cop to a bullet, a mystery that I believe has never been solved. In essence, he wanted to create a hero who would be essentially invulnerable to replace his dad. I mean, Dude, it wasn't a Superman comic book.
slowburn Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 Tree of Smoke Denis Johnson My favorite Vietnam novel

John Carter of Mars was awesome.. I thought Prometheus was boring and predictable.
nickers Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Sidney Sheldons Doomsday Conspiracy.. but that topic has been covered more than once
Kvoethe Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 They should make a tv series of stephen kings short stories. Grey matter, word processor of the gods, the long walk, survivor type, some of those stories are freaking brilliant
The Cysko Kid Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 The long walk is a full length novel but otherwise I agree. He's got plenty of short stories that would work well
Kvoethe Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 Long walk i thought was 1 of four stories in a Bachman Book
The Cysko Kid Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 It's been released since as it's own full length novel under kings own name. But yeah it was in the Bachman books
The Gipper Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Check out this list of the best selling books of all time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_books There are a few in there that I do not believe have been made into movies like The Catcher in the Rye. Watership Down Others that are best sellers are like self help books, not amenable to movie making. Note though that some of the best selling books are also among the largest grossing movie franchises: specifically the Lord of the Rings/Hobbit and the Harry Potter books. Personally, I never cared for the Catcher in the Rye.....and I assume that JD Salinger would never sell the movie rights. But now that he is gone, perhaps his estate will. I am not sure it is translatable to a movie, but I would be curious to see the effort.
Westside Steve Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 Watership Down has been made into an animated film. I loved the book! A catcher in the rye is tied up with Salinger's heirs who will not even allow it to be made into an audiobook. unless something very recently changed. WSS

WSS I figured that might be the case with the Rabbit book. And with Salinger's book, the estate will eventually be settled, the the thing that will change, with them is probably:::$$$$$$$.
larryfine Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 "Lines in the sand" by Dick Draggin and "Wet Sheet" by I.P. Nighlty.
