None and one loss teams

Here is some need to know data on the remaining none and one loss teams in college football. I am including information on what has been these teams best non-conference win......what games they have lost.....and what "elimination games" are upcoming on these teams schedules. By that I mean if they have a game scheduled vs. another -0- or 1 loss team:

Mississippi St. Best Non Conf win: Southern Miss. No losses

......elimination games upcoming: vs. Alabama....though if they lose that one I don't think it necessarily knocks them completely out.

Florida St.: Notre Dame No losses

......No elimination game on schedule, but may play Duke in ACC title game (plus must play Miami and Florida

Auburn: @Kansas St. loss to Mississippi St.

.....elimination game upcoming: Alabama

Oregon: Michigan St. loss to Arizona

....no elimination game except possible 1 loss matchup with Ariz. St. in Pac-12 title game

Alabama: West Virginia lost to Ole Miss

....elimination games: Mississippi St. and Auburn

TCU: Minnesota, loss to Baylor

....elimination game: Kansas St.

Michigan St.: Wyoming, loss to Oregon

....elimination game: Ohio State

Kansas St.: UTEP, loss to Auburn

.....elimination games: TCU and Baylor

Notre Dame: Stanford, loss to Florida St.

.....elimination game: Arizona St.

Baylor: SMU, lost to West Virginia

.....elimination game Kansas St.

Arizona St.: New Mexico loss to UCLA

.....elimination game: Notre Dame

Nebraska: Miami, Fla. loss to Michigan St.

.....elimination game: none on schedule, but possible Big Ten title game vs. either OSU/MSU

Ohio St.: Cincinnati, loss to Virginia Tech

.....elimination game vs. Michigan St.

Duke: Kansas, lost to Miami Fla.

....elimination game: none on schedule but possible ACC title game vs Florida St.

Marshall is undefeated at 8-0....but has not nor will they play a single "Power 5" conference foe.

Bottom line: there are now 14 none or 1 loss teams in FBS (not counting Marshall).

What is the max number that could be left prior to Conference title games?

Ohio St./Mich St. loser will be out

Auburn/Alabama loser will be out

TCU/Kansas St. loser will be out.

Kansas St./Baylor loser will be out

Notre Dame/Arizona St. loser will be out.

So, in theory you could still have as many as 9 or 10 one loss teams going into the conference title games:

Duke if they win out.

FSU if they win out (or even if they lose a game)

Nebraska if it wins out

Oregon if it win out

Ohio St./Mich St. winner

Ariz. St./Notre Dame winner

Alabama if it beats both Miss. St. and Auburn

Auburn if it beats Ala.

Miss St. if it wins out...or even if they lose one game

Kansas St. if it beats both TCU and Baylor

TCU if it beats Kansas St.

Baylor if it beats Kansas St.

.....The Big 12 could have two one loss teams if both Baylor and TCU beat K.St.

Then the conference title games could be another round of eliminators:

OSU/Mich St. winner vs. Nebraska.....loser out

Oregon vs. a one loss Ariz. St......loser out

Duke would be out with a loss to FSU (but could they be in with a win???)

What about that SEC West.....how do they get two teams in? Should a team that does not win its division....so much as its conference be allowed in the 4 team field?

I guess it could happen this way: Miss St. beats Ala, Auburn beats Ala. -0- loss MSU and 1 loss Auburn both get in.

or: Alabama beats both MSU and Auburn. Do both a one loss MSU and a one loss Alabama make the field of four?

All of the above scenarios presume that these one loss teams would only lose to each other. Many of them still have dangerous games to play. Alabama must play LSU. Oregon plays Utah. Nebraska plays Wisconsin. Miss. St. plays Ole Miss. As noted FSU must still play its games vs. Miami and Florida.

Notre Dame still plays USC and Louisville. They all have some loseable games beyond matchups with each other.

Leagues with still 3 teams in the race for the 4 playoff spots:

SEC: Miss. St., Auburn, Alabama

Big Ten: Ohio St., Michigan St., Nebraska

Big 12: Kan St., TCU, Baylor

Two schools still in the hunt:

Pac 12: Oregon, Ariz. St.

ACC: FSU, Duke

Plus Notre Dame

Leagues with still 3 teams in the race for the 4 playoff spots:

SEC: Miss. St., Auburn, Alabama-- The SEC West will eat it's own.. Alabama looks like the best team in the nation to me right now and I hate those fuckers!!

Big Ten: Michigan St. ---Just being realistic

Big 12: Kan St., TCU---This gets decided this weekend..

Two schools still in the hunt:

Pac 12: Oregon

ACC: FSU

Notre Dame uh, no...

I just don't think anyone outside of the top 8 right now has much of a chance..

Actually, I think it is a 50/50 proposition that someone currently outside the top 8 will be in the playoffs. Seven of those teams have very loseable games. Three of the top 8 will definitely suffer another loss as they play each other. None of them can fall down and lose in an upset to a non-ranked team.

Miss. St: play both Ala and Ole Miss

Ala: plays LSU, Miss St., Auburn

Mich St.: plays Ohio St. then probably Nebraska

Oregon: would play AZ st. in P-12 title game

TCU: plays Kan St.

Kan. St. plays TCU and Baylor

Auburn plays Alabama

Only Missisippi St. and FSU could lose another game and remain in the Top 4.

Florida St. has the best chance even with games vs. Miami and Fla.

No, I will wager a hot fudge Sundae that someone currently outside the Top 8 will make the final four. Or a beer if you prefer!
